World’s Largest Pyramid Scheme
The World’s Largest RPGs group, which has launched quite a few KS projects without delivering their first one, has launched yet another project.
They claim the books are printed and on the way, which means the books, and most particularly the maps, are still full of errors and the maps in particular are missing labels and doors. Despite the community trying to provide feedback for over a year.
Please don’t back “Forgotten Chambers”.

“In an effort to provide some joy to the nation and boost overall well-being, Justice Department officials announced plans Monday to bring back firing squads as a means of entertainment. "For too long, weak-on-fun Democrats have prevented our country from exercising this beloved tradition of murdering for enjoyment," said acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, claiming the practice was also a far cheaper and more efficient method of amusement than lethal injection.

"Capital punishment with actual guns and bullets acts as a natural deterrent for boredom when it is carried in front of millions of thrilled, screaming Americans. Firing squads are going to completely expedite the delight and euphoria that are often slow in death penalty cases, with some inmates being forced to wait years before their death provides amusement for a cheering crowd.”

Paizo is having to lay off people. Because their primary distributor went bankrupt and almost $10 million in stock is sitting there pending lawsuits.
I don’t really play Pathfinder anymore, but I still get their adventures and some world books because they are a company that employs good people. And one of the few union shops in the rpg industry.
Sucks to take a huge hit for no fault of their own.

Boosts needed! Posting elsewhere needed!
It’s super hard to get attention for a KS campaign when you aren’t shelling out hundreds for advertising.
I like jim’s Protocol games, they are fantastic one shot story games.
One of the new ones is an alternate version of Home, one of my favorites. I’m also really curious about Black Monk.

“As this book is the exclusive precinct of the DM, you must view any non-DM player possessing it as something less than worthy of honorable death.”
—AD&D DM Guide
I forgot how weird this book really is.
Remember, the rules for combat are in the DM Guide. Players don’t need to know that.

… The 3d6 give a bell-shaped probability curve of 3-18, with 9-12 being the mean spread. SPADE 18 means absolute and unchangeable hate, while HEART 18 indicates the opposite. CLUBS or DIAMONDS can be altered by discourse, rewards, etc. Thus, CLUBS 12 could possibly be altered to CLUBS 3 by offer of a tribute or favor, CLUBS 3 changed to DIAMONDS 3 by a gift, etc.”

Random conversation about which games are actually good at teaching new GMs how to run a game made me look back at AD&D’s DM Guide. Man is it weird in places.
“The author has a d6 with the following faces: SPADE, CLUB, CLUB, DIAMOND, DIAMOND, HEART. If, during an encounter, players meet a character whose reaction is uncertain, the card suit die is rolled in conjunction with 3d6. Black suits mean dislike, with the SPADE equalling hate, while red equals like, the HEART being great favor. …

I’m mildly fascinated by the (now 5 year old) Metallica Blacklist album. On the one hand, it’s a neat idea. There are some excellent songs on it. But I wish they had put a little more effort in making it functional as an album, not a collection of tracks to make playlists out of.
I would have preferred some effort to balance the number of covers per song. Nothing Else Matters gets a dozen versions, whereas Of Wolf and Man and The Struggle Within got one each.

And even if they weren’t going to tell bands, “hey, we’ve already got 6 Nothing Else Matters, can you pick another song?” They could have at least tried to organize it as a listenable album. Nobody is going to listen to the same song a dozen times in a row, so if you actually were listening to the physical album your only chance for an enjoyable experience is a multi-disk player on shuffle.

I’m also disappointed in the streaming stats that says the excellent Through the Never cover by The HU has been overlooked by most listeners.
I’m glad the two songs with only one version each got good covers by Goodnight, Texas and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Ling Family
I have spent way too long looking at fictional family trees.
I found someone whose grandfather, Sir Hubert Marsanne (ne Ling) had an affair with Ser Yolande Kalem. Common enough, it happens.
But then their legitimate child Ser Teruworq Marsanne married the bastard daughter Dame Cécile Marsanne (ne Kalem) and had a load of children.
This would be a weird footnote, but one of which married Governor Thorsgar Ling.

The fascists are gleeful at an opportunity to shutdown and dismantle the government further, but you can bet that ICE will still be operating as “essential to national security”, because of course the most important thing our government does is terrorize people of color.
They just want power, but never wanted to govern.

How many Shakespeare plays involve pirates? I know of at least three. In a conversation earlier, I had an idea for a new play. Take all the different pirate scenes from Shakespeare, and link them together as one roving group of seamen who bump into the various plays.
Could be interesting.

I found an article claiming people use them to buy drugs, but that seems ridiculously over hyped to me. Not that I’ve bought drugs illegally in forever, weeds been legal in my state for over a decade, but I feel like offloading bulky detergent bottles is not something most drug dealers would want to do. Cash is king.

why is it stolen that often? It’s neither expensive nor easily concealable.

I went to the store to pick up two items. Even though they had both in stock, I only purchased one. Why? Because the second was locked in a cabinet.
I understand locking high value items like video games or electronics, and age restricted items like alcohol, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to wait around for an overworked and underpaid staff member to come unlock the cabinet for laundry detergent.
Which corporate suit thought that was a good idea?

I found that #DangerMan / #SecretAgentMan is on Prime (as is #ThePrisoner and #TheSaint ). I love the Prisoner, but I’d never seen #PatrickMcGoohan in Danger Man before.
It’s a very fast paced show. At ~23 minutes, they cram in a plot that really deserves a 50 minute episode (like the Saint), so there’s no wasted moments. Even the dialog is rapid fire.
I appreciate McGoohan’s skill at taking on different personas and accents.
I can see why they wanted him for #JamesBond .

Corporations will not stand up to fascism. They are engines to create profit for shareholders so protecting profit is their only guiding principle. They will bend to the felon-in-chief rather than face costly repercussions from a petty tyrant who wields unconstitutional power without any oversight.

Finished up season 2 of Star Trek Enterprise.
I have mixed feelings about the third gender handmaiden’s tale episode. Like, Trip was right, they deserved asylum. The captain berating him for interfering seemed out of character when the captain has indeed down similar interference when he’s seen injustice.
I also forgot just how quickly Archer turns into Jack Bauer after space 9/11 happens. S3 feels like a different show.

Stuck in my HOA Budget meeting. Nobody likes that our dues are going up. It’s not exactly our fault that insurance has gone up by 6x over the last five years. We have to budget for a projected increase of up to 20%.
But hey, let’s complain to the volunteers who had to compile the numbers instead of doing anything about climate change five decades ago.

Oh damn. I just noticed it was directed by Frank Capra. Director of Its a Wonderful Life, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, and It Happened One Night.
This is a much more tragic and interesting. Not that his later films aren’t good, I’m just curious what other films he might have made if he’d continued to have creative freedom.

Decided to watch a movie from Criterion’s pre-code collection. I picked Forbidden because it’s got Adolphe Menjou, who I always enjoy.
It’s scandalous, young woman meets a dashing man on vacation. After they get back she learns he’s actually married. Cut to a few years later and she’s raising her daughter alone.
This is why 30s movies are interesting. The code stifled creativity for decades after.

There are technically two types of Leman Russ and 2 types of Baneblades. Okay, the Shadowswords and Stormswords are distinct enough. But can you tell which Leman Russ has which guns? 🤣
One of these days I need to find time to play this game.
I also need to decide on color schemes. But I may end up trying different colors for each detachment.

Xenophon: The silver mine will never run out and never suffers from inflation, so why doesn’t the city invest more in mining?
Probably true for a few hundred years, but they did indeed deplete in the Roman era.
They reactivated after the industrial revolution with modern techniques, and then really dried up a century later.
And absolutely silver can have inflation, but not at the slow rate of ancient mining.

Found a book I’d partially read a while back, decided I should finish it and get it off my “currently reading” list. It’s a collection of Shorter Works by Xenophon. I believe once I finish it I’ll have read everything he’s written.
In the section on “Ways and Means” or “Public Revenues” depending on who is translating the title.
Of course I’m also working on Stonewielder and Dust of Dreams too.
