@nprofile…yz28 so, I keep seeing references to whatever this is, but it does seem like a whole thing that would take hours to explain; would you happen to have a summary that would fit in a post?
is it something to do with somebody trying to make their own lego knock-off & getting sued?

@nprofile…x8t7 do you have any insight into how the hell the age check even made it a whole hour into Linux in the first place? It's possible I'm being hopelessly naïve here, but I really thought every Linux user/admin/programmer/whoever would've literally rioted in the streets before countenancing anything remotely like it.

@nprofile…65q8 I'm looking forward to this post because I'm curious how much overlap there is in the reasons that you're standing up your own CA and the reasons I did

@nprofile…8d0p @nprofile…vtry @nprofile…65q8 are you guys going to be adversely impacted by the updated semi-annual release schedule for AOSP, assuming Google's still planning that change?

@nprofile…65q8 out of curiosity, how do the range and accuracy of the pellet compare between an airsoft pistol and rifle?

@nprofile…e4ry I'm going to pull a guess straight out of thin air, but I think they might be intended for US Imperial Units use: where there's e.g. feet + inches, or pounds + ounces, etc: you can then perform additional arithmetic on the units "independently" when you can extract integer & fraction

@nprofile…2y2x holy shit: are there really no significant non-US CAs? 😲

@nprofile…q5wq "the Internet's business model is betrayal" is right up there with "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it"; but I don't care for the trendline 😛

@nprofile…x759 would you recommend getting a machine with a wireless modem (does it just take a SIM?)?
whenever I need mobile connectivity, I tether to my phone (plus I'm too cheap to buy a data plan for the wireless modem); but maybe I should reconsider?

@nprofile…4tpe I'm actually a big fan of this: it has a negative `wat` factor. It has to return a string, and it does; and there's nothing at all to join, so there's nothing at all in the string: it's just empty. If only the rest of the language were as predictable & consistent 😛

@nprofile…args one thing I've always appreciated in the intersection between coding and computer-science/mathematics is, when you can use a naïve approach initially, to get answers fast; but then have to switch to a more sophisticated algorithm to have any hope of scaling. I'll see if I can come up with some specific examples…

@nprofile…6m2n @nprofile…n4cf so this isn't the option for that, and I'm not even sure it's a good one; but every once in awhile it comes in handy after I recently learned it:
say you have dir/think_{hard,different,fast}.pdf
you type `dir/think` and if you hit tab, you'll get the 3 options echo-ed back.
if you then hit ALT+SHIFT+8 (so, alt-asterisk), bash will auto-insert /all/ the matches onto the command line, and you can edit your way to choosing only one of them.
if anybody figure out how to get bash to cycle through the choices, I'd love to know about it

@nprofile…x759 is it possible to get realtime directions & traffic without being on android/having access to the Google Maps app? that's the one thing I feel like I'd be losing out on without Android on my phone.

@nprofile…psd8 something I haven't seen specifically mentioned is, if this nonsense continues, we won't HAVE any more open-source software: not just because the current scrapers will wear them down; but because, if "AI-coding" becomes the only coding, then subscription-based development will become the only programming & only corporate programmers (if they're even allowed) will be able to contribute open-source code.
