Random fact:
The human nose is so good at detecting the scent of vanilla (vanillin) that if an oil tanker full of it spilled somewhere on earth, the entire planet would smell like vanilla.
I think about this a lot.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, I named my external backup drive "Ryan Gosling".
This was well before the Barbie movie, and I'm not even sure I'd seen (m)any of his movies beforehand, so I have no clue why this is the case.

It was really chilly today, but the sunshine and trees were glorious.

Got an email complaint about one of my team members at work, who apparently felt there was an appropriate context for saying “Hitler was a good guy” and “the Holocaust wasn’t that bad” at work.
Sad thing is, even without them giving a description, I know who it was. So I think my manager and I are firing someone tomorrow.

Would it be weird if I told one of my employees (who is young enough that I could be their mom) that I’d adopt them if I could? Like, not as an insult to their parents or anything but just as a way of telling them that I think they’re awesome.

1. My car will be okay.
2. I am okay.
3. I am well and truly loved.
Gonna focus on these things because they are true and helpful to remember.

Hey, Firefox - go fuck yourself. If I wanted to use Perplexity as a search engine in your browser (I don’t) I would’ve added it myself. You didn’t need to add it, enable it by default, and make me have to go figure out what this new random button in my search bar is. AI, like most new unproven tech, should be informed opt-in, not forcibly opt-out.
Assholes.

Trying to find a way to get insulin without insurance, without paying $600+ month. The discount programs offered by the pharmaceutical companies seem to be scams or generally worthless.
Is it possible/legal/feasible to get it from a Canadian pharmacy cheaper? Does anyone have any experience with this? Trying hard to help someone who’s in a really tough spot and any advice would be immensely appreciated. Boosts also truly appreciated.
The US “healthcare” system is fundamentally broken and it’s killing people.

Looking for an #AppleMusic alternative for the #MacOS. I don't need social or radio features, just something that will allow me to listen to my MP3 library, create playlists, and hopefully burn CDs.
I'd prefer not to have to make an account to use it, or pay a monthly subscription, but will consider apps that charge a reasonable one-time fee to download.
Any ideas? What do you all use?

Looking out the window at a world on fire
It's plain to see, the end is near
I've seen all the sights
I'm tired of the lights
So you can let me off right here
This town's getting crowded
The truth's been shrouded
I think it's time to change up the sound
Yeah, the wheels keep turning
The flames gettin' higher
Another cycle goes around
Face in the mirror's all skin and bones
Bloodshot eyes and a heart of stone
Never again, rather be alone
Think I'm gonna just stay home
And make art, not friends
