Compared to Delta Chat, Matrix has stateful servers (instead of storing state on end devices), it doesn't encrypt all interactions (like reactions), leaks a lot of metadata, doesn't support ephemeral messaging, and many people have UX complaints about it, but it has better tools for moderating large groups, it's possible to see messages posted earlier to a room after joining it, and it has some more advanced features like videoconferencing.

Out of those mentioned by Dan, I have heard that Ghost is the best FOSS platform and is now rolling out ActivityPub integration to federate with the Fediverse.
Another FOSS blogging platform already connected to the Fediverse is @npub1p6k…khwm which might suit you depending on what your needs are.
The @npub128x…459q movement might also interest you (and their website which they built with readable.css is indeed very elegant)!
