Well, that would be a new use for my sewing machine. Would “hemming” be better? Almost done with one curtain. I need to see how Dunhelm finishes the curtain corners. Much more sophisticated than my usual finishes.

Continue shortening curtains, finish knitting project and go for a bike ride now that the wind has dropped in #Cumbria. This may involve tracking down a local Roman Mile fort.

#3goodthings
1) Saw both Canadian Grand Prix #bike races this weekend: Quebec City and Montréal. 2) Was utterly charmed by how beautiful #QuebecCity is 3) So glad to be home and tucked up in bed tonight after walking 7 miles through Montréal following the race today. Zzzzz

As someone who has plumagedon season each year from my plum tree, these are my rough measurements for jam: 4-8 cups of cut up plums. 3-6 cups of sugar. Throw in cut up 2-3 whole lemons after you start boiling. The pectin is in the pith. Size the lemon chunks so you can pick them out later.
I let the sugar and plums sit without cooking for several hours then boil and reboil the jam 3-4 times. Use a candy thermometer and aim for ~210 F(I think, I’m not at home ans can’t check my candy thermometer). Stop just below gelling point or the jam sets solid. The reboiling evaporates liquid and allows you to check progress. I’ve processed hundreds of jars this way. I also make Blueberry/plum and strawberry/plum jam in the same way. Best of luck! #gardening #canning #jam

Well, I checked out “Bloodlands” from the online library. Holy moly! I knew the numbers. The sheer scale of inhumanity from Stalin and Hitler is breathtaking. #Belarus lost 50% of its population. And #Ukraine was decimated over and over again. I understand even better why they will fight to the end against Russia. They know their fate if they don’t.

death camps: 6 million Jews. The rest were other groups. The statistics were even worse if you add in Stalin’s numbers. Truly horrific time.

Finding #denali : look beyond the black peaks, the lower clouds. Yes, above them in the snow with its own small cap of cloud. There it is towering above the smaller peaks like the kid who is much taller than its classmates. Amazing.

Thanks for this guide to squashes. I finally identified the squash plant growing in my front yard. Now what to make with the 4 large squashes that I have. Luckily they are hard skinned so I have some time. #gardening

my plastic coupler isn’t very good at stopping water coming out. Thinking of sealing the plastic tube to the coupler with silicon and adding not one, but two screw on clamps. Any idea if that will work??? #gardening
