What do the USA do for peace? Aside of sticking their heads so deep into Putins ass, so that they can see the world through Putins eyes?
They can choke on their gas, we have a climate change to battle.

The weakest US president ever. He should accept his responsibility and resign, instead of trying to stay in oval office with the help of Putin. He is a disgrace for the USA.

I could just quickly state that the "2005 peak oil" has never happened like Hubbard prognosed in 1956, even just for conventional oil. Conventional oil might peak in the 2030s now (according to CERA), but that depends on how people invest - not the lack of oil on this planet.
Its the same with other old "peaks". Production requires investments. No investments, no production. No profit, no investments...
Cheap oil might never happen again...

Not really.
The limit is much lower. The planet has far more resources than we can access and utilize, and our demand grows faster than the new resources we can access.
And other resources become inaccessible by climate change.
Just imagine getting frozen freshwater from Antarctica (where lots of it are) to Capetown... before it melts at the pole and flows into the ocean.

Its a very political topic. Especially in regions that aren't really too dry, but still require water management, so the resource does not run out.
For example, people complain loud about how much water the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin consumes compared to the citizens, but don't want to mention the coal pit mines next door, that pollute and dump lots of groundwater into the next river. And lower the water table in a huge radius.

Quadratic isn't that bad for an algorithm, but the plain problem is: We can only process so many variables at one time. And its hard to partition a LLM. We need to become smarter in using LLMs, not make the LLMs bigger.

That is the big point there. It pretends to be further in progress, than it really is. There are some necessary improvements to overcome the past problems, but these solutions can cause new issues in flight.
Still, it is not THAT far away from orbit. At SECO, it was roughly 200 km PeR short the last time, and 150 km after engine relight. Thats only ~60 m/s short from first cosmic velocity on SECO and 40 m/s short after engine relight.

They can't enforce it, that is the weakness of the commission. Only the member states can enforce it. But the commission will write a formal recommendation to the member states to adopt such a ban. Its sad, that even that recommendation is still in the future, considering how much even just the idea behind such "therapies" (Better: Torture) violates the human rights in all EU countries.

I doubt the next admin will persecute anything too high up the chain of command. Too political, they'll get some small fishes and a few middle guys, but pretend to be blind and deaf on anything so high up that it could come back on them.
The Democratic Party of the USA were never the good guys - they were just the lesser of two evils. For a real change in politics, the whole system would need to reform itself - against the will of the rich=powerful elites.

Small correction there: The Space Shuttle contained six GPCs. A spare one was located in the mid-deck, permitting to replace a failed GPC while still in orbit.

Which Civil war? The one of 1861? Don't you think you paint over 150 years of US history with a too broad brush then?
Especially about fascism, which the USA never had before and thus, act a bit clueless on how to even identify it? Despite this all, the USA haven't yet succumbed to it. The resistance works. MAGA is already turning on itself. Just give them the chance to shoot themselves in a bunker.

I disagree: With violence, you only play by their rules. Their mindset is violent, their language is violent, their actions are violent. You only do them a favor with more chances for violence.
Defending people against this violence with violence is necessary, but to really defeat them, you need to be smarter and more endurant then they are. They are their own worst enemy.

Maybe also important for the context: For protecting the merely 1000 fascists in the hall (and, at least officially the multiple ten thousand protesters outside), the police closed a very large swath of the city for any traffic and protests. Its maybe out of proportion, but this February, a guy drove a car into another union led protest in Munich, killing a mother and her child and injuring 44 others. Which also nobody wants to happen again.

Not to overreact, they just send so many drones through polish air space, that they could no longer tolerate it and shot them down, with support of the NATO allies. Its not even known yet, if they were explosive, or "just" EW. If things stay level-headed, NATO is loudly grumpy and Russia respects NATO airspace for the next months. If not... the east europe experts were right about Putin.

yes, like every government does. This is not yet weird. The weirdness is that they don't want to be transparent about nuclear traces dating back to 2003. They cooperated for 20 years with the IAEA without making more trouble than usual.
The IAEA monitors 156 countries with more than 25 kg U-235 in the world. Israel is one of the least transparent countries there, only defeated by North Korea.

Germany has more (about a ton) and higher enriched (93%) HEU than Iran, without Israeli fighters bombing our reactors and factories. Maybe the problem isn't about the nuclear research.

Yes, could we get something like that without all the other attributes of a black hole, it would be a great discovery. Sadly these articles only prove once again that you can become very rich by knowing the math better than your customers.

I wouldn't believe this "unnatural" sequence claim unless they really checked that this sequence doesn't exist in nature. Not just in coronavirae, but in other cells as well, that could exist in a potential host. And if I remember correctly, the good and bad thing was, that this different (to what?) sequence wasn't special at all in the SARS family.
As I said, the claim sounds badly jingoistic to me. And we already had Trumps lakeys in government at that time.

This hypothesis is pure jingoism today, nothing more. It was interesting in the first months, but looked less good later.
Note that the development of the first virus tests in Germany were so fast, because the RNA of the virus wasn't extraordinary, its just a small mutation of a previous strain. Can be done in a lab, but can also be easily be done in nature. In fact, it mutated much more since 2020 outside labs, especially in Africa.

BRICS+ is actually the club of those who only agree that they want to break with the Dollar, but can't agree on which currency should do that. While the (highly diverse) "West" is the one supporting true multi-lateral organisations, except the current US government, which acts more like a BRICS+ country... also "global south" is even less a working club than BRICS. Just try to find an equivalent to the AU in south america.

2025-03-04 02:28:14 UTC

No, I agree that the classic BRICS is just a loose collection of different countries without a common strategy. Its just the last place where Russia can still pretend to be a superpower. But still, all other countries strive pretty well while expanding their trade with China.

I would love Brazil to become a bit more boring now, now that it is the number three in BRICS behind China and India (And don't mention Indian politics. Thats really a daily dose of insanity), but again, Brazil is rich in natural resources, and on one hand such riches always attract thieves and corruption, on the other they also make it easier to rule as autocracy without rule of the law by numbing the people with gifts and games.

its not like the USA were alone in that game, the USSR did the same stuff, often just less openly. Even in Brazil, though it seems to be rather passive, the actor seems to be Brazil itself, especially Goulart. 1964 Was rather the year, were the US Navy did not support the coup in Brazil... despite intending to do so. In the end, the US support was not needed, but the USA clearly welcomed the coup against the pro-USSR Goulart.

2025-03-04 01:10:14 UTC

and how do the USA come into play there? If your milk turned sour, did the USA also do that?
Brazil is not the most stable democracy, despite its long democratic history (with long stretches of autocratic rule between ). Its always been terribly corrupt, the typical resource curse.
Worse for Bolivia. The USA can be blamed for a lot of things, but it looks like they do things in South America lately by just existing.

Better count that correctly. Al Jazeera claimed just 750, and even that number was poorly sourced. For example Saudi-Arabia had 10 bases for just 381 soldiers. Obviously, base would be the wrong term for an office or even just a mailbox. Germany and Japan had 120 bases each, but I have the impression, they just didn't check a map there, the official German number is "just over 20", Wikipedia lists 20 active bases. And that list includes elementary schools!
