After a full year of no income I am now trialling a print shop. Have added a second 25 paintings to it so there are now 50 paintings there: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/4-liam-daly/shop/prints
Let me know if any problems are experienced.

Let me share a #painting with you of southeastern Ireland. "Gorey, Main Street" is a miniature I painted a couple of years ago. I painted it because squares and rectangles make me happy - and shopfronts and streets are great collections of squares and rectangles. I also painted it because the first family holiday I ever went on was in County Wexford with trips into the nearby Gorey. But mostly I painted it because of the squares. #Art #MastoDaoine

Announcement regarding new paintings.
Short version: Annual online sale of new paintings won't happen before xmas. It was very close but I ran out of time so am postponing it to first few days of March.
More info: For domestic reasons painting season is a few weeks at end of the year. Laptop dying really hit painting time. Minor health stuff didn't help. It's my main source of income so I'm not happy, but mostly because it's my very reason for being. New paintings coming & looking good though

2024-12-08 23:27:15 UTC

No decision yet on whether I'll be able to have my annual sale. Painting season is going well - from the painting point of view, but the rate at which I'm finishing paintings is slower than I'd hoped. I'll decide soon. If it's going to happen it will likely start Dec 18. If I'm not ready then I imagine I'll push it back to March of next year - but I'm going to keep trying for this month.

Finally made the decision as to which one, and ordered my new laptop today. It has to arrive and I have to set it up - while in my busiest time (it's painting season) - before I can resume frequent posting here.
In the meantime I've been using workarounds to facilitate posting where the sky is blue, mostly there I'm catching up with paintings I've already posted here. 2024 is tiring.

2024-11-16 20:11:04 UTC

Still without laptop and very slowly shopping for a replacement - slowly because I could a use a laptop to research and choose a laptop (have never been a phone person). Updates will remain light until new machine - plus this is painting season. I'm still here.

@npub1l60…qhut Thanks. Yeah - been thinking much the same, as in while it's the worst weeks of the year for it to happen because of the way I structure my painting year, at least there is that.

Yesterday, give or take 28 yrs, was the longest distance I cycled in a day on my cycle across America. It's also the only journal entry not written at the time (Some entries were written, some were taped - this day had been taped but I lost the tape), so here's what I wrote about cycling into Kansas City, from memory 12 yrs after that epic day: https://medium.com/@eolai/cycling-across-america-part-40-c369487ca747

@npub17yz…qgzq A straightforward comparison was "Press or Herald", and obviously pronouncing "Herald" a certain way sort of like "Herdled". "Last of the Toblerones" was one I always liked.

A couple of weeks back I went into town and boarded a train for the west of #Ireland. Getting off the Sligo train at Collooney I walked up by the cemetery and sketched this view of the town before strolling back down just in time for my passing lift which took me to a wonderful pub in Ballisodare and on to 8 days of magical company in Enniscrone.

Back from a holiday in the wind, where I did a lot of sketching, and I did a lot walking - for me - albeit with a stick, and for the first time in years I played football on the beach - albeit with a stick. I also did a lot of swimming - with the same stick (it helps when you can't actually swim, and with limping out of the sea). And after a year of planning I did a lot of filming. Yes, there was a stick. It's also fair to say I drank an awful lot of beer, no help needed. Good times.

Have a look at another of the brand new paintings from my recent online sale. "Connemara Boats" is a view from by Kilkieran east over to the Rosmuc peninsula. It sold within seconds of being posted on my website and fb page - I hope to have it available as a print before too long. #mastoart #Mastodaoine #Ireland #Art

Night 3 of my 5-night sale of new paintings is underway now. Another night of 6 new paintings of Ireland with a new painting being rolled out about every 30 minutes. The first two nights sold out, and so far tonight I posted 2 new paintings (one Connemara, one Mayo), and both are still available. My annual sale of new paintings - postponed from December due to poor health - takes place onilne starting Tuesday May 7, 2024. Basically I post a new painting every 30 mins over a few hours in the evening for 5 nights in a row.

@npub1rt4…6vzc That building there facing the harbour on the South Pier on the right is a cafe (think it has been a succession of cafes). The Salmon Fisheries is on the other side of the peninsula - straight ahead past those rows of buildings and down on the far side facing the water over there. Is that the house you mean?

2023-09-05 13:30:06 UTC

Noisy day. Heating and boiler being upgraded. The Immersion has just left the building. Feels monumental. Never again can we have the horror of realizing we left it on.

Was away last month for my annual holiday in #Sligo. Those few days are always the highlight of my year and this year no less wonderful. Did a lot of sketching, chatting, drinking tea, swimming with a stick, supping pints, reading, laughing, and my first long walk in years. I even took a photo - one evening while we were hanging on the beach while the sun did its setting thing over Killala Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Good times. #MastoDaoine #Ireland

@npub1dt9…vn84 Well Raleigh would do quality components so this sounds odd. You're using the word 'breaks' - you don't mean the chain has actually broken, as in a link snapping? And more than once - which would mean you've had it fixed (link replaced) to use it again? Do you mean the chain keeps coming off? If it's a 7 speed then it only has one chainwheel (the big cog at the front), but whichever end is coming off will be down to the derailleur needing fine-tuning by screwdriver to not move it too far.

@npub1dt9…vn84 Ha. As bridges go it's a long one - 23 miles/ 37 km long (the span is 17.6 miles / 28.3km) and the poor man had to do it twice to get home again.

I did nearly go there but I settled for some sausage rolls from the garage around the corner so I could eat them with my tea whilst looking at the view I'd chosen to paint. @npub1gk0…xrsm Yes, I'm aware of this, thanks - but I was on a road not on the water, on the south and east side of the river which follows the River Finn until the road enters Strabane before where the Finn meets the Mourne. Coming from the bog I stayed quite rural that day skipping Ballybofey, Stranorlar, Castlefinn and Lifford, instead opting to go via Clady. I loved the day but it was a pity to miss out on them all, so I've long had them marked for another cycle should my knees ever get better.

#[0] Something I enjoy doing from time to time is staring at maps of Ireland noting the places I've been to least, or even not at all, and trying to come up with a new cycling route different from my painting tour one of 2011. That section of north Kerry is on it, as is Loop Head across the way. Given my knees though it's all likely fantasy, but it's no harm to dream.

#[0] Yes. I'm familiar with Thomson and the Canadian Group of Seven he influenced. The practice can be very effective but also frowned upon for being, well 'too much'. It's fairly common to have some sort of grounding; most often for landscapes something warm like burnt sienna or umber or some form of ochre, but not usually as warm as an orange. One reason some people use a warm grounding is to work with dominant cool colours of final painting. Vice versa applies, as do other effects.

Obviously would've been a much shorter cycle to the reservoir than when I painted this - starting from my studio on the north bank of the Liffey in Lucan and carrying my paints etc. home to Palmerstown before heading south. But yeah, the more developed Greenway will be great. Parking there is so limited; I haven't yet been to the new car park beyond the far end of the upper reservoir.

As I only use one drinking mug at a time, it means looking at the art supplies shelf is like looking back at life. My main mug from the 1980s holds pens, one from the '90s holds my paint water, one I bought in America and used in the late '90s holds long brushes, one my son painted in the noughties holds my best brushes, and so on.

"Loch Con Aortha/ Lough Aconeera" Your first #painting to start this day of a new week is from Connemara and probably my greatest ever day on a bicycle anywhere in the world, let alone #Ireland, where I started it by a short cycle to this scene, painted for a few hours, then cycled on through wonder after wonder of Irish scenery. #Art #Cycling
