This season on the Deadcast has been particularly fun. My brother and I have had a chance to tell some stories from 1985. Check out this latest episode from a wild show on the land of chocolate.

@nprofile…md3f I had been at the last three shows of the east coast summer tour. And returned to CA and started getting ready to go to Ventura when I got a call from Steve Marcus (GDTS) telling me that the shows were cancelled because Jerry was sick and could I help spread the word so people didn’t end up in Ventura. When I asked for details about Jerry’s condition he told me to pray that Jerry got better.

@nprofile…md3f I seem to remember at this show, Bob had a paper with some lyrics taped to his stand for Desolation Row that blew away while he was playing the song.

@nprofile…md3f amazing interpretations, great song choices, and long shows. Never expected a St Stephen>NFA>Morning Dew encore. In a world of tribute bands they really stood out.

@nprofile…md3f I will give both a better listen today. Maybe there should be a compilation of all the tunes Bobby snuck in during jams/space.

@nprofile…md3f I have always thought of the tune being This Time Forever during Space. Had a good time at this run.

@nprofile…md3f We watched the show and it was fantastic. We are going next Sunday when they play the ol’ Quarry Amphitheatre at UCSC (the same space where I received my diploma). I think it’s the first time she is playing on campus since she graduated 36 years ago.

@nprofile…md3f @nprofile…2q8g Blair Jackson had to cut material from his book and used to have it on a website that doesn’t seem active anymore. There he had a portion of an interview with John Kahn where he said it was his idea to reach out to Booker. He also acknowledged that Booker misunderstood the assignment and the rehearsals and show are all that exists of Garcia’s most unique and unusual collaborator. Jerry did get his arrangement of Goodnight Irene from him, so not a total loss.

@nprofile…p8cy My memory of this show includes BGP having to clear half the floor for the giant float and then the surprise/shock (and for some revulsion) of the giant heads. Some thought it was not a great visual for thousands tripping. A true over the top celebration.

@nprofile…p8cy One of the funny things at this show was after it was over, we headed to the parking lot where they had installed energy saving yellow fluorescent lights that made everything look brown. Tie die shirts sellers had all brown shirts, all the food sold looked brown and all the cars looked brown (which made finding our rental car a little challenging).

@nprofile…p8cy Steve Brown merits an entire episode or at least part of one. He has a great story and was a great collector of items we now regard as artifacts. He was into the band starting in 1966, started a record store chain, worked for the Dead during an amazing period, taped the Haight Street gig in 1968 and more. During the Vietnam War his job was to make tapes of music to play for soldiers. He would tape live shows and sneak them into the recordings sent overseas. Too many great stories.

Two and half years after we started working on it, our Clifton Chenier tribute record is coming out soon. I have had the pleasure of serving as the Executive Producer with co-producers Steve Berlin and Joel Savoy and so many great artists. Over 40 musicians contributed including Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, Sonny Landreth-, C.j. Chenier, and The Rolling Stones. Our first single is out today on the streaming services featuring Lucinda Williams, Tommy Mclain and Keith Frank. #Louisiana #NewOrleans

@nprofile…889t This is a favorite show of mine. For a young Dead Head, the Truckin’ opening felt very special and hearing Smokestack with harmonica made me think of the times they played it in New York many years before. My brother named the Jam after Looks Like Rain “the land of 1,000 jams” and was very exciting. Gimme Some Lovin’ was still new and it rocked. The energy level was high this night; definitely an East Coast show.

@nprofile…889t @nprofile…hrsy The WELL was an amazing community. I was so impressed by the level if discussion about the Dead and so many other subjects. The future on web based communication seemed so promising. I made great friends there in 1985 that I still have today. @nprofile…hrsy and Mary are wonderful moderators. If the internet/message had replicated the WELL community the world would be a different place.
