depending on the game asking the internet is even less help than a pissed off barkeep.
example: the destiny 2 community is allergic to maps with pins, and screenshots that show any usable points of references. they will just show you a picture of a dark corner in a dark room and say "its right here"

dude i think about this ALL THE TIME. i'll be sitting here like, why can i not find this stupid thing but i don't want to "cheat"
after a while i will reason with myself that searching what i want on the internet is just like if i walked into the inn and asked the barkeep for directions.
same for crafting patterns. i aint the first person to invent healing potions its literally baked into the world. why do i have to "discover" the recipe?!?!?1

this one was my favourite last weeek <https://slashdot.org/story/456530>
professor crafts essay instructions with hidden tokens so a copy paste into ai will make it ran about dumb things. 32 of 35 students turn in unaudited ai essays.
professor allows them to admit to what they did and try again for a good grade. only 2 of the 32 do.
this next generation is fkd.

my main complaint is the writer of that article couldn't understand there is a difference between events, like rocky horror picture show, where you expect the audience to be loud. they think there should only be one ruleset which is insane. the default should stay.

i have a friend who will start passively aggressively bitching just loud enough for the people who were pissing him off to hear in the theatre. which means he is being a louder disruption than they were. candy wrappers trigger him too. its pretty embarrassing.
i would rather we change nothing about the expected etiquette and instead have the theatre re-hire the guy whose job it is to deal with problem people like the people who triggered my friend, and my friend.

zendesk seems to be compromised. all day i been getting support tickets from misc projects using it. and the tickets for real exist in their systems, i was able to set my eyeballs on it on the 2k games zendesk. but some others are from companies i do not patronise, like tinder and lime ride share. they are creating real tickets without any confirmation about the account existing.

nah you haven't lost the power of the engine because you're still not writing opengl/dx/vulkan yourself. godot for example its language is basically python but without a lot of the stupid.
the base widget will still be handling the positioning and layers and fonts and shaders. you just have to add new tricks.

2025-10-08 22:01:44 UTC

yeah that's a case of class MagicTranslator extends Dialog there won't be anything that provides that. i can't even think of a web ui that has it 😅

2025-10-08 21:56:27 UTC

- reply

yeah. without giving away your juicy secrets. for the most part engines i use like godot are pretty open such that if it can't do it for you, you just do it for it. that one specifically supports 2d and 3d and as far as i can tell the only limit is your time and patience. still heaps better than starting from scratch writing opengl/directx/vulkan yourself never getting to any game.

- reply

ye, i should be doing that too. but things like .addEventListener() and .forEach() just make me so angry. so i stick with my .on() and .each().
in jquery i can be like on('click.myapp') to make .off() easier later, and no matter how hard i search i can't find any real answers if the vendor suffixes work in native js.

2025-06-06 15:33:39 UTC

i still live in the middle ground where i wont use any of the modern js crap. if i need more than jquery then what needs done is stupid. and really only still using jquery because the native functions are stupidly named honestly don't really need it.
