I don't like this happening, and there should be transparency in all moderation decisions, but some of these points make no sense.
There is essentially no expectation of privacy on threadiverse platforms. Everything is public and probably already being used to train models.
There is no private messaging system. Direct messages are unencrypted and potentially visible to any instance admins. They and should not be used to share anything sensitive.

I gotta admit, PeerTube is really beginning to stabilize into a platform I'd consider using. Imma have to take another look when I have to time.

On Saturday, “an individual committed arson on a newly purchased ICE building” by breaking a window, igniting a fire and throwing a propane tank into the building, according to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.
“The fire was quickly extinguished by the interior sprinkler system,” DHS said, noting that the suspect fled the scene after setting the fire. “The matter remains under investigation by the FBI.”

Federal and state law enforcement in Arizona are still looking for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie. There’s hope that a found glove may contain DNA from a potential suspect.

Personally, I agree (we would never do this in a large community for the record). But yes, there are people who think that they can "kill" a small community with downvotes because they don't like the topic.
The sad thing is, it's true. In a community where most posts have under 5 or so votes, one person coming in and systematically downvoting *every* post will keep people from seeing it who may be interested. If someone doesn't like a topic, they can block the community, but when they take steps to prevent others from seeing it, that's toxic. It's bad for the health of the platform.

If you don't like anything on the the platform, why stick around?

So I recently moved most of my docker storage to a second hard drive, called "storage." After a system restart, docker is creating a folder called "storage," forcing the physical drive to be renamed "storage1." How do I prevent this from happening?
I am using Xubuntu.

The world’s most popular TikTok star, Khaby Lame, has left the United States after being detained by federal agents in Las Vegas.
Born in Senegal, he moved to Italy with his working class parents when he was an infant and has Italian citizenship.
A spokesperson for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said the Senegalese-Italian influencer was held at the city’s airport on Friday after “overstaying the terms of his visa".
He arrived in the US on 30 April and had attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual fundraising gala in in New York.

It seems like thre are really only a couple of options, and I haven't found many review or examples that show enough detail to compare them.
Jellyfin has a [bookshelf plugin](https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-plugin-bookshelf) that seems to be able to handle it. Audiobooks look to be accessed through the main client app, and ebooks through a companion app like [JellyBook](https://github.com/JellyBookOrg/JellyBook), which also claims to handle audiobooks.
On the other hand, there is [Audiobookshelf](https://noted.lol/audiobookshelf-a-self-hosted-audiobook-and-podcast-server-with-phone-apps/), which specializes in audiobooks, but also claims to host ebooks. It has a number of client apps, but none that I found mention eBook reading.
I've found a couple of other solutions that seem more specialized. Maybe one of those?
I want to be able to read and listen on an Android device, preferably with a native app. I have a few comics, but mostly interested in books and audiobooks. I already have a Jellyfin server setup.

I've been watching this as one of the most promising newer apps to show up on Lemmy. It's still my go-to for messaging, especially on desktop. I haven't seen much activity on the Github recently, but it looks like there have been some developments on the live web ui. There are so many innovations that I think could be great for the Fediverse, especially the use of an on device algorithm to find new content.

I remember this was a huge phenomenon when it came out and people were recording it on their home VCR's and playing it back frame by blurry frame. News programs reported on it. Serious people discussed the reasons why they thought it was fake, as though it wasn't just grainy footage of a plaster dummy stuffed with spiced meats.
It sparked a genuine debate about whether we were alone in the universe, and what that would mean for human beings. It's really amazing how easy it was to pull off such an obvious hoax and full a lot of people.

McConnell, the longest serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, said in a floor speech that his "current term in the Senate will be my last."
"Regardless of the political storms that may wash over this chamber ... I assure our colleagues that I will depart with great hope for the endurance of the Senate as an institution," he said.

Pope Francis, who remains hospitalized, has bilateral pneumonia, the Vatican said on Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday that it's working to reverse the firing of agency personnel tasked with the federal response to the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
The bird flu crisis in the U.S. is in a troubling new phase as the outbreak intensifies and the Trump administration maintains a pause on some external federal health agency communications.
"Several job categories, including veterinarians, animal health technicians, and other emergency response personnel have been exempted from the recent personnel actions to continue to support the HPAI response and other animal health priorities," the USDA said in an emailed statement Tuesday evening.

Remember when movies used to look good?
Rich shadows, bold colors, and depth. But now? A lot of films and shows look flat, dull, and lifeless. In this video, I break down why modern cinematography feels so uninspired, and it’s NOT digital’s fault. Let’s talk about dynamic range, lighting, and why intentional choices matter more than ever.
What you’ll learn:
• Why older movies look better than modern ones
• How dynamic range & contrast affect the cinematic look
• The role of VFX, lighting, and production design in the decline of movie aesthetics

Yes, I know that the are dozens of notes apps. I'm looking for recommendations based on a few features that I like:
- nice design (including color coding)
- easy checklists
- sharing - this one is key. I use a shared shopping list and we both need to add and edit.
- pinning and archiving (hidden notes)
I don't mind running it from my homelab server, but that is not a requirement. Does anyone use a notes app that you love? Let me know!

Great! Thank you for the gorgeous app. I really love the style, and I think the personalized feed is brilliant.
On my device, the lemmy hyperlink in the [test post](https://lemmy.world/comment/11514952) is still opening outside the app. I'm not sure how other web apps handle this but it would be the only additional change that would make it a perfect score.
As an aside, I would love to see it as a PWA or standalone app. I don't know if that's on your roadmap but I think it would be neat.

# An Apps Experiment
Cross-posted from https://lemmy.world/post/18159531
## Introduction
This is an experiment I performed out of curiosity, and I have a few big disclaimers at the bottom. Basically, I've seen a lot of comments recently about one app or another not displaying something right. Lemmy has been around for a while now and can no longer be considered an experimental platform.
Lemmy and the apps that people use to access the platform have become an important part of people’s lives. Whether you are checking the app weekly or daily, and whether you use it to stay up on the news or to stay connected to your hobby, it’s important that it works. I hope that this helps people to see the extent of the challenge, and encourages developers to improve their apps, too.
## How I did it
I wanted to investigate objectively how accurately each app displays text of posts and comments using the standard Lemmy markdown. Markdown is a standard part of the Lemmy platform, but not all apps handle it the same. It is basically what gives text useful formatting.
I used the latest release of each app, but did not include pre-releases. I only included apps that have released an update in the last 6 months, which should include most apps in active development. ~~I was unable to test iOS-exclusive apps, so they are not included either. In all, 16 apps met the inclusion criteria.~~
> I also added Eternity, which is in active development, although it has not had a recent update. I was able to include several iOS apps thanks to [testing](https://lemmy.world/comment/11506252) from @npub1fwm…w425 – Thanks, Jordan! This made for 21 apps that were tested.
Each app was rated in 5 categories: Text, Format, Spoilers, Links, and Images. I chose these mostly based on the wonderful Markdown Guide from @npub1zha…3znm, which was posted about a year ago in !meta@sffa.community ([here](https://sffa.community/post/105)).
I checked whether each app correctly displayed each category, then took the overall average. Each category was weighted equally. **Text** includes italic, bold, strong, strikethrough, superscript, and subscript. **Format** includes block quotes, lists, code (block and inline), tables, and dividers. **Spoilers** includes display of hidden, expandable spoilers. **Links** includes external links, username links, and community links. **Images** included embedded images, image references, and inline images.
> Thanks to input from others, I also added a test to see if lemmy hyperlinks opened in-app. There was a problem with using the SFFA Community Guide that caused some apps to be essentially penalized **twice** because there was formatting inside formatting, so I created this [TEST POST](https://lemmy.world/comment/11514952) to more clearly and fairly measure each app.
In each case, I checked whether the display was correct based on the rules for Lemmy Markdown, and consistent with the author’s intent. In cases where the app recognized the tag correctly but did not display it accurately, that was treated as a fail.
## Results
Out of a possible perfect 10, only 3 apps displayed *all* markdown correctly:
### Jerboa (Official Android client) - 10.0
### Alexandrite - 10.0
### Voyager - 10.0

## Disclaimers
### I Love Lemmy Apps (and their devs)
Lemmy apps devs work very hard, and invest a lot in the platform. Lemmy is better because they are doing the work that they do. Like, a LOT better. Everyone who uses the platform has to access it through one app or another. Apps are the face of the entire platform. Whether an app is a FOSS passion project, underwritten by a grant, or generating income through sales or ads, no one is getting rich by making their app. It is for the benefit of the community.
This is not meant to be a rating of the quality or functionality of any app. An app may have a high rating here but be missing other features that users want, or users may love an app that has a lower rating. This is just about how well apps handle markdown.
### This is pretty unscientific
You’ll see my methodology above. I’m not a scientist. There is probably a much better way to do this, and I probably have biases in terms of how I went about it. I think it’s interesting and probably has some valuable information. If you think it’s interesting, let me know. If you think of a better way, PM me and I’d be happy to share what I have so you don’t have to start from scratch.
### My only goal is to help the community
I do think that accurately displaying markdown should be a standard expectation of a finished app. I hope that devs use this as an opportunity to shore up the areas that are lagging, and that they have a set of standards to aim for.
~~I don’t have any Apple things~~
~~Sorry. This is just Android and Web review. If someone would like to see how iOS apps are doing, please reach out and I’ll share how we can work together to include them.~~

Although *some* of those kidnapped from Israel were given adequate food, clothing, bedding, and other necessities (what I assume you mean by "treated well"), others were subjected to psychological torture, denied lifesaving medicine and basic medical treatment, and assaulted, including children.
All of them were taken from their homes at gunpoint, some of them pulled from under the bodies of their murdered families, some of them non-fatally shot or seriously injured. Some of them have no homes or families to return to. The hostage release appeared orderly because Hamas threatened to harm their other family still held hostage if they said anything bad, and because Israel and Egypt worked together from Oct. 8 to carefully plan the safe and orderly transfer. Hamas in the West Bank and the PA had basically no plan to receive the released Palestinian prisoners, so there was chaos.
The whole "hostages were treated well" is such a weird talking point to me.
