So currently the situation went from bad to horrible. We did suffered from both drives actually failing which makes the situation more dangerous. Although the drive that initially reported issues and failed was replaced and the Array was rebuilt and reports operational, another drive in the array has reported media errors (during the rebuilt operation).
This means that if we have a shot at restoring the file system we need to replace that drive too, wait for rebuild before we can try to bring back the data (hoping the file system isn’t totally corrupt). Attempting to bring the storage online now could break the file system beyond repair and given the drive erroring, it is expected that the storage would fail under load anyway.
@nprofile…t85l and @nprofile…7xgm have managed to secure a replacement drive they will pick up from the store in the morning tomorrow. Right after that, we will go to the datacenter where the server’s sleep and replace failing drive.
That means, things will be down for extra day or so. We are terrible sorry for all this but seems like everything just fell on our heads all at once from all directions.

Ok. So email should be back though only new emails of course, but better then no emails. Once the issue with storage is solved one way or another we will merge the mailboxes. Same goes for other services like xmpp. But services like privatebin, lufi and cryptpad will remain offline until the issue is solved.

Little update from @nprofile…t85l
Looks like one drive has failed and was replaced (now rebuilding) however it may have been that another drive has had some bad sectors though unconfirmed. We hope it’s not the case but since the filesystem locked up it could very well be.
We will wait until rebuild to see if things can be fixed up back online.
Until then most of the services will remain offline but in order to provide some form of accessibility during this mega outage disaster situation we will:
Provide temporary email storage to allow emails being delivered
Nextcloud will have disabled files so that people can still access calendars, contacts etc.
The raid array rebuild will take quite some time (we are at 13% percent since two hours). So prepare for longer timeout from some services.
We are very sorry for this :(

We currently experience hardware failure on our storage server. We are investigating the problem.

Today Disroot has turned 11 years old 🎉
We would like to thank everyone who has find our platform interesting and useful enough to stick around. Great thanks to all FLOSS developers for making projects like ours possible. And big shoutout to all ethical providers out there.
Have a great year everyone and keep up the good work!!

Hi there, We’ve noticed increased interest in our little Forgejo instance the last few days (wonder what could it be caused by).
We welcome all FLOSS contributors and we are happy to be home for amazing projects. We’ve not made a dedicated ToS per service yet other than https://disroot.org/tos since our instance was mainly used by small personal projects.
However the increased interest requires us to clear up a few things. While we are working on the additional points on our ToS that we hope to publish soon, and deciding on our policy (mainly surrounding LLM as it seems this is what it’s all about) here are some ground rules we will most likely put:
Non FLOSS license (proprietary software) is forbidden
100% vibe coded public software is forbidden (we don’t want to be slop machine providers)
Accounts created by and for business (purely commercial) is forbidden (this is already in our ToS though)
Cryptocurrency related projects are not welcome.
We do not provide runners and if we do it will be only for curated list of projects we want to help out (we have simply no resources to do it for everyone)
Git repo is not your free cloud storage for everything and treating it as such is not tolerated
Forking and mirroring just for the sake of it is not welcome (eg. if you don’t plan to contribute to linux kernel don’t fork it)
Happy coding!

Hi there. A little callout before the weekend.
We're looking for someone versed well enough in legal structures such as Foundations and Associations in the Netherlands, to help us out with some advise regarding those.
If there is anyone in the Fedi or if you know anyone who could help us with some professional advise, please get in touch (free or paid).
