I don't follow this account 'Europe Says' but I am getting its posts in my feed, I also don't follow the 'Politics' feed, the only account to have boosted it.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I don't like banning things, even with something so deadly and addictive, there may be better ways of managing. We got far already making it socially unacceptable, with other restrictions. The problem with banning things is it can make them illicit & desirable.

All of those thinking they put in their time already at 40, 50, 60 whatever age... looking at retirement, if you can see how dire the future is need to face up to the reality that the next generation have been sold a lie by selfish assholes. It's down to us to fight for 🌍This is not going to be a youth led counter-movement for our future. We need to get off our asses and get involved now because 🌍 can't wait through four years of Trump team climate crisis acceleration and profiteering.

This is hilarious: "one female octopus threw silt 10 times at a male from a nearby den who was attempting to mate with her. She hit him on five occasions. “That sequence was one of the ones that convinced me [it was intentional],” says Godfrey-Smith. On four of these occasions, the male tried to “duck”, though he didn’t always succeed. In two cases, he anticipated the throws from the female’s movements and started dodging before the silt was propelled at him." https://www.newscientist.com/article/2287879-female-octopuses-throw-things-at-males-that-are-harassing-them/ #octopus

Emma Briant from Monash University, said the sophistication of the Russian operation was concerning: "It essentially is the evidence that we have been waiting for, which really proves the Russian backing behind an awful lot of influencers that have been pedalling and super-spreading disinformation on the internet," she said. Dr Briant said the influencers paid by RT were "given deniability" but were "doing Russia's bidding with little regulation stopping them". https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-05/us-charges-russian-disinformation-rt-propaganda/104313552

And analysis like this isn't that helpful devoid of such strategic context - different objectives shape the tactics chosen at different times. Russia also seeks to stoke divisions and distrust with hack and leak attacks when it suits the end goal. They choose the timing and tactics based on what they hope to achieve.

It also takes fewer resources to do that, it's worth Russia trying to sway the election, due to the high yield outcome. For some reason they didn't want to publish my reading of their strategic goals and why these matter. Screenshot here is what they included from me though or read article also linked here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-24/iran-russia-china-election-interference-in-united-states-2024/104252926

the US election to Trump would end aid to Ukraine and massively improve it's ability to achieve its goals over Ukraine. Its cyber-enabled influence operations take a different form because of those different end goals. It's not just about technical capabilities. It makes far more sense tactically if Iran's primary goal is seeking to smear or gain kompromat on particular individuals to influence, whichever the outcome of the election.

2024-08-24 23:07:54 UTC

I'm going to do a 🧵 because
@abcnews asked about the difference in tactics between Iran/Russia observed by Microsoft. My comment elaborated on different goals. If you can't sway a whole election or this wouldn't achieve high end goals (such as shifting US support from Israel) it seems likely the aim is to influence or smear who might be close to a future administration, on both sides. The tactics reflect these goals. Russia has a different goal: swaying #hacking https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-24/iran-russia-china-election-interference-in-united-states-2024/104252926

I know everyone is terrified but this is the far right LOSING political power in Britain. They are desperate & angry. Because they have lost control of everything that matters. They will not be allowed to rise this way. They must not be allowed to hijack Britain by terrorising ordinary communities. We are strong, they are weaker right now, and we need to remember that we have the power.
