hehe thinking about the day before the big snow storm this past winter, when i was at the yarn store and it was absolutely packed. people chatting while browsing and joking about things like "forget about the grocery store, this is more important, am i right?" :)

is there a really lightweight analytics thing people like? i haven't wanted to put it on my own website, but am thinking about adding it to some of the standalone projects

has anyone written a guide for all the joy-bringing low-tech devices with which you could reduce your smartphone use? :]

this piece by @nprofile…44dh! https://taggart-tech.com/reckoning/
i really liked the questions asked and the quandaries waded into and the safeguards suggested. i found it very empathetic and thoughtful. i really gravitated to and am grasping tightly to the concluding message of caring for each other and understanding our wider context and remaining critical of those who exploit workers to enrich themselves.

played around with making a swatch for the Songbird Mittens! not sure if i have the motivation to keep working on the whole project (the weather is getting warmer...) but it was fun to try out :)
this was my first time trying stranded colorwork flat! the last time was all in the round, so here i had to figure out how to purl with two different strands in my hands. happy that it turned out well!

is there a reason the Apple Music app is insisting this is three different albums
i bought the album on Bandcamp and imported the files in. they all seem to have the same metadata for artist and album and album artist. tracks 1 and 2 seem to have been splintered off into their own albums, while tracks 3 through 12 have remained intact.

has anyone played around on https://tangled.org/? i feel a slight grudge against bluesky as a social media platform but i am curious about all these new platforms that people are building on the protocol !

got sidetracked when trying to do something else and ended up writing about my "smallness" bot project!! this is the art of noticing; how sweet the bot; call that documentation as a poem

finally got around to giving @nprofile…3f9d's piece the time and attention it deserved and omg i adore it. it's so slick and beautiful and FUNNY. henry is the artisanal craftsman of writing and designing a reading experience on the web. this is chicken soup for the soul. i should have paid to enjoy this. <3

(ode to the default purple visited link color)
how honest, like a sigh at the end of a day. like sweat on the brow and prints in the snow. don't posture to me with the eager blueness of a fresh link, but settle with me in the purple coming home.
put down your paint. you were once strange to me, words draped across the entrance of a closed door. i passed through your threshold and felt an indelible kiss.
we have tread the trails. we have ventured through it all, and what can we do now but sag into the change it has wrought.

@nprofile…4tpe @nprofile…ytyk ooh! lazy loading does seem to help a lot if it's just scrolling! if it's playing through or jumping between images quickly though, i'm seeing a lot of flashing :(

accessibility notes:
- IMPORTANT: it is unfortunately a heavy webpage, weighing in at about 45 MB due to all of the images. i was wondering if there was a way to optionally load the images only if the user is okay with loading more data, but i'm not sure if there's a way to do that right now.
- each image comes with a caption that serves as the alt text. (hopefully that functionally works?) wasn't sure if this was going to be helpful or overwhelming, but it turned out to be an interesting writing challenge and i kind of like it. there is an option to hide the alt text if it's visually distracting while browsing the images.
- should work on both larger and smaller screens
- should work with both mouse and keyboard (have not tested with a screen reader yet)

@nprofile…6h3y good point, thanks!
i can offer more details if that's helpful? i'm working on a canvas that has mouse and keyboard interactions attached to it. for mouse users, you can click on the canvas, and, when the canvas is programatically focused, interact with it using the keyboard. (it's not great for users who aren't using the mouse, but i'm working on other ways to achieve the same things.)
would removing the focus outline make sense in that case, where the user is clicking on the canvas in the first place?

2025-03-17 21:43:01 UTC

are there any #accessibility warning bells that go off on your head if i write this?
```
[tabindex="-1"]:focus {
outline: none;
}
```
my thinking was that, if `tabindex="-1"` is set on an element, it's being programmatically focused as opposed to the user tabbing to it manually, and therefore a focus outline may not be needed? but please do correct me if that's out of line

- improved smarts around theme choices and detection
- add an accessibility statement of sorts to /appendix
- some accessibility fixes and bug fixes
- refreshed some copy
- added some image styling
next… fill out some of the more bare-bones project pages, maybe play around with some pages that have been created but aren't linked yet
