Thanks for the pointer and thanks to @npub1ef5…gcpc - really good talk.

I know, which means it should be possible to swap to snapshot.debian.org and keep going, then install a "correct" kernel once the target system boots.
I also want to detect this at the point I build images to avoid this problem.

I realise this doesn't help correctly but Apple's HomePod is still pulling RN (hey Siri, play Radio National). BUT it's pulling Victoria where I should be getting ACT/NSW
Sports rights / geofencing is/was/should be being handled via Akamai AFAICT
Someone with a rooted Android phone may be able to pull more info as well.
As for why they're not sending https://streaming.abc-cdn.net.au/audio/hls/rnnsw.m3u8 over to the devices, I'd guess that's the push to get everyone on ABC Listen.
@npub12n5…9dex

2026-07-07 01:21:25 UTC

doubtful, it *should* be pulling via e.g. https://tunein.com/radio/RN---ABC-Radio-National-VIC-621-s20269/ (which may give hints as to why it's not being found correctly actually)
This then redirects to ABC's Akamai-based streaming service (on my PC and via HomePod)
I suspect we should get out of @npub13cg…ck4q's mentions now as we're not in a spot to troubleshoot - and I'm not going to do ABC's work for them.

You may be able to build GNU findutils on Windows with VS2022/2026, ucrt/Windows SDK and bash from the Git distribution.
...however, bash ./configure takes minutes and minutes to run... on a Threadripper.
Comment out the following:
# if test -z "$ac_list_mounted_fs"; then
# as_fn_error $? "could not determine how to read list of mounted file systems" "$LINENO" 5
# # FIXME -- no need to abort building the whole package
# # Can't build mountlist.c or anything that needs its functions

If someone wants to submit a patch for that FIXME - there's checks below this to exclude mountlist.c (AFAICT)

Coded an idea I've had for some time, not original but I haven't coded C# for years. Feels very comfortable. Don't use this, it hammers the shit out of servers as C# wants to use 4096 byte reads and I haven't worked out how to make it do anything better. https://gist.github.com/voltagex/b4c8c113c65b645a8207d3910344ab14
Is anyone reading this a C# expert? The only thing I can think of is keeping a bitmap (?) of retrieved segments and blocking on Read() until everything is downloaded - set my segment size to some fraction of the total filesize for faster downloads. I think the underlying mapped file can be used from multiple threads too...

What are people doing for mobile phone service these days? I could barely make a call on Telstra (Boost) in the middle of Canberra. It renews in 3 days for $300/year. Can I do better?
Needs to work in Canberra and Narooma, advantage of Telstra is "unmetered" Apple Music but other than that I need about 10gb of data a month... but I never thought that calls working correctly would be the deciding factor.

Networking people, am I really doing 20-50 megabits per second of ACKs to download at 2 gigabits per second?

With Lobsters and HN firmly in the booster camp, where do you find things to read these days?

Try not to scare all the new users off, will you?
