To note, much of the assets were generated via AI, as this is a solo dev, and it's hard to produce everything on your own.

This will test the memories of many of our CivFanatics but do any of you remember the 1995 classic Ascendancy? After Master of Orion took the Civilization formula to the stars many other #4X space games followed each with a different take, and Ascendancy’s big change was constructing buildings in terrain slots across the planet surface as well as specific ship parts in ship slots. Sadly much like Civ1&2 Ascendancy has been lost to time and is not legally available in modern stores, however one fan frustrated with this situation has decided to remake the game in a spinoff of sorts called Imperium and released a free public beta demo on Itch for everyone to try before going live on steam. He’s eager for feedback so check it out here https://petroffgames.itch.io/imperium , and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/imperium-a-faithful-modern-ascendancy-successor-beta-open-before-launch.703191/ !

It's the middle of May, and we got a new #Civ5 "Game Of The Month" for you! This time the settings are a bit more special, because this game has the "One City Challenge" enabled, making it extra hard! You play as Bismarck of Germany on a standard size Pangaea map on King level. You must win this game via culture, with the one single city you'll have. Do you think you can manage this and send in the winning savegame before June 18? Then check out this thread and get your starting savegame https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/tsg-289-announcement.703344/ !

Today is the day with the big "Test Of Time" update for #Civ7 !
The new patch comes with a ton of changes. You can now lead a single civ through all the ages, but they get more boni in their own age, but you can still get some of the boni of the other civs, if you like. Also the victory has been reworked, the legacy paths are gone, and instead there are triumphs, which are intermediate goals to your way to victory. Obviously many other things have also been reworked, like parts of the UI and the AI. For more info check here https://civilization.2k.com/civ-vii/game-update-notes/ , and discuss this update with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/civilization-vii-update-1-4-0-test-of-time-may-19-2026.703352/ .

They are in-game challenge, which will award you not only victory points towards a specific victory, but will also give you other boni going into the same direction. Do you want to know more? We got a new game announcement which will probably interest quite some civfanatics! Dale, co-developer of #OldWorld and long-time civ fan is now working on his own independent game, called "Imperialist". As you can guess from the context and title, this is a turn-based 4X game, set during the age of imperialism. You might now be thinking about "Colonization", but this game is not about creating a new state in the old world, but forging an empire which spans the the whole world. The graphics have retro flair though and are definitely aimed at long time civ fans, and for who remembers it also the "Imperialism" sries! Otherwise you will get more intricate supply chains and more advanced diplomacy with friends and foes, making this game a potential new candidate for the "one-more-turn" syndrome at the end of this year.
The game is scheduled for release in Q4 2026. You can find the Steam entry here https://store.steampowered.com/app/4351070/Imperialist/ and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/imperialist-exploit-the-new-world-to-control-the-old.703219/ .

Sara has come by to give us some more details about the upcoming #Civ7 update! iN the latest developer diary, Matt Owens, the lead designer, is talking about the redesign where you can lead only one Civ in Civ7, without needing to change it, and how the devs have listened to the comments of the community. The changes include that you still get the unique features of a civ, and some might scale with the ages, whereas others change when you leave the civilization's original age. You will also get the option to adapt some features of related civs via a new civic.
Curious? Read all the details here https://civilization.2k.com/civ-vii/game-guide/gameplay/time-tested-civs/ , and discuss them with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/test-of-time-developer-diary-time-tested-civs.703253/ .

After the Civ series itself with Civ1, and also this year Civ2 turn 30, it seems that Firaxis themself is also turning 30! Sid, Brian Reynold and Jeff Briggs founded Firaxis anno 1996 after they left Microprose, and so far it seems that the studio is standing the test of time. As with such events, Firaxis wants to celebrate, they start with a re-branding, and a few things are to come in the coming weeks https://firaxis.com/news/thirty-years-of-strategy/, see also the next toot below:

Our user SaltyOlives has notified us that they and their team have released their Colonization inspired game "1492 - Colonization of the New World".
As you can guess, this is a game about colonizing the new world in a turn-based way. You can lead one of 8 European nations, and you must settle unknown lands, build up your production to develop your settlements, negotiate with the natives, and ultimately decleare independence from the colonizing monarchy.
The game and its graphics are aimed at old-school "Colonization" fans, and system requirements are therefore moderate.
If you want to try it, there is a free demo available on Steam. The game is also currently discounted, for 24.29€. Check it out on Steam here https://store.steampowered.com/app/3861100/1492__Colonization_of_the_New_World/ , and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/1492-colonization-of-the-new-world-a-new-very-col-like-4x-tbs-game.699640/ .

Just two days after releasing the Empires of the Indus expansion https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/empires-of-the-indus-available-now.702548/ , Mohawk Games has announced what they are working on next – a dinosaur-themed strategy game.
Sid Meier will be on loan to Mohawk to create the game that he described in 2022 as his “holy grail” game. Meanwhile, Soren Johnson will be spending the remainder of 2026 working with Firaxis on the design of future expansion packs, whose names have not yet been announced.
From Mohawk, technical director Alex Mantzaris said, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Sid to help him realize his lifelong vision of creating a dinosaur strategy game.”
Meier himself commented that design discussions over the past year convinced him that a solution had been found to the challenges that he had noted about a dinosaur game in his 2020 book. He will remain an employee of Firaxis on loan to the smaller studio.
No release date had been announced for Sid Meier’s Older World.
Discuss the announcement with us in this thread https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/firaxis-mohawk-announce-sid-meiers-older-world.702579/

CivFanatics user SpyFanatic recently announced what is likely to be the final release and iteration of the Master of Mana mod that turns #Civ4 into a 4X fantasy strategy Master of Magic like experience. The journey began many years ago when modding legend & game dev Kael developed the Fall From Heaven Civ4 mods which spawned many other ‘modmods’ using the FFH2 template. One of them was known as Wildmana that pushed things in a more magical direction became the popular Master of Mana mod. It’s also worth noting that one of the original Wildmana & MoM dev’s Sephi is working on a new MoM inspired game called The Red Desert of Cruoris at the moment too. Check here for more information on the final Civ4 MoM Tweak release https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/tweak-mod-for-xtended-master-of-mana-updates.684050/post-16901713 and here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/master-of-mana-download.403123/ for more information on all the other Civ4 MoM versions mentioned.

Today Firaxis has announced on Twitter that the geek coffee shop Madrinas has now Civilization coffee to offer (click here https://madrinas.com/products/cinnamon-whiskey ).
Madrinas has a range of other themed gaming merchandise (if you e.g. want a Mafia coffee mug), and given that you definitely need some strong coffee for one-more-turn until the next morning, this might make some sense.
The coffee is cinnamon and whiskey flavoured, and will cost you $18.99 for the whole beans (it doesn't say how many grams this is though).
So... get some coffee, because, as we know: Sleep is for the weak!

Firaxis Games has released a new behind-the-scenes video exploring how the award-winning music of #Civ7 was brought to life.
The feature offers a look at the creative process behind Civ VII's sweeping score, crafted by the Firaxis audio team alongside composer Christopher Tin. Tin is no stranger to the franchise — his composition "Baba Yetu" for Civilization IV made history as the first video game track to win a Grammy Award. For Civ VII, Tin composed the main theme "Live Gloriously," continuing the series' tradition of culturally rich, era-spanning soundtracks.
Sound and music have always been central to the Civilization experience, helping players feel the weight of different time periods and cultures as their empires evolve across the Ages. The video dives into how the audio team approaches that challenge and the passion they bring to the work.
For fans who want to take the music home, the Civilization VII soundtrack is also available on vinyl as a box set featuring tracks from across all three Ages.
You can discuss this video with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/behind-the-music-of-civilization-vii.702107/ .

Today we got the next #Civ7 patch, 1.3.2. It seems our last announcement was wrong though, as the very big changes will only be coming in the future. In this patch you get nested tooltips, a new appeal lense, together with a range of minor fixes for the AI and UI, as well as civ re-balancing.
Also interesting is that you got your free Gilgamesh! He is diplomatic and militaristic, but his special ability gives him access to all endeavours.
You can read the patch notes here https://civilization.2k.com/civ-vii/game-update-notes/ , discuss them with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/civilization-vii-update-1-3-2-february-3-2026.701963/ , or discuss the new Gilga here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/leader-discussion-gilgamesh.701967/ .

Sara surprised us today by announcing that the next patch for #Civ7 will be released tomorrow, and oh my, it is a big one!
In this patch, you will be getting the option to play the whole game as one civ, which many people had requested before. Going together with it, the victory conditions are also getting a rework to fit better with the new ideas. Legacy paths also get reworked into a new concept called "Triumphs". And as the last news: You are also getting a free Gilgamesh, every Civ6 player will be delighted!

2K has announced that #Civ7 will come to Apple Arcade, which is a comparable service to e.g. Xbox Game Pass (but for Apple devices, obviously). The Arcade Edition will be available for Mac, iPad and iPhone from February 5 on, and will be optimized for touch screens. As drawback, it was also announced that for now the Arcade Edition will not have multiplayer, will not get DLCs and patches might be delayed. At minimum iOS17 is required.
Costs for Apple Arcade are currently $6.99 per month, and the Civ7 Arcade Edition will be included, along the rest of the Apple Arcade catalogue.

Shacknews has crowned #Civ7 to be their best strategy title of 2025.
It managed to beat the latest Commandos title and Final Fantasy Tactics among others.
The Shacknews team appreciated the changing civs (yes, they did) and the new strategies it allows, the navigable rivers and the removal of workers.
At the end, Civ7 won narrowly with 4 vs 3 votes against Jurassic World Evolution 3, and is now Shacknews strategy game of 2026.

@nprofile…amkz I'm afraid you didn't check the pirate's special ability 😬 (pirates, not blackbeard):
"Settler Units cannot be trained or purchased, but you can capture other civilizations' Settlers" (the ability is longer)

And it's time for the special December #Civ7 "Game Of The Month", called the "Krampus" edition. This is again a challenge for you, but with some more spiced-up requirements. The basics are that you play Machiavelli of Aksum on a huge Archipelago map on Deity level. The disaster intensity is catastrophic, and the independents are hostile. As special requirements we have that you must take Hawaii and America as following civs (and you must unlock them), you must win a domination victory before anyone else, you must have the memento "Il Principe, Glass Armonica", as Hawaii you must settle 2 islands, and as America you must settle 3 cities in distant lands on plains or grassland tiles.
Sounds like a challenge? Get the savegame here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/7otm13-krampus-2025-announcement.701013/ !

Today we got the latest #Civ7 update! Patch 1.3.1 comes with a new map type, Shattered Seas, better biome generation, rebalancing, bugfixes in the AI, UI changes and a lot more.
The second part of the "Tides Of Power" DLC has also been released, and it's still free until January 5. You can now (finally) play as the Ottomans, as well as Iceland, and we get the barbary pirate queen Sayyida al Hurra as new leader.

We already mentioned it a while ago that there was apparently a cancelled #LEGO #civ game. It seems that this then flew under our radar for a while, and a month ago our user cuc had posted a leaked video from the unfinished game. Have a look at the video above, and discuss with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/lost-lego-civ-game-leaked-from-a-nintendo-switch-1-devkit.697408/ .

5 years ago for Civ1s 30th anniversary we posted Blake's video here about how to play it in HD with the best mods & scenarios and now as we close in on Sid Meier's Civilization II 30th anniversary the time has come to do the same for Civ2. In the intervening years Blake has painstakingly searched, rescued & preserved several thousand Civ2 scenarios made over the last 3 decades and is now showcasing many of the best total conversion ones in this video. There’s also previews on some crazy new mods of Blake's that change nearly everything in Civ2 to look like Heroes of Might & Magic, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Dune, and Alpha Centauri to name a few. Eventually he’ll be doing episodes on playing Colonization, Master of Magic, Alpha C, CtP and Civ3-4-etc in HD too but that’ll be a few more years work. Curious? Check more here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/civ-video-series-ep-04-civilization-2-hd-tour-with-mods-scenarios.700268/
