The only good fascist is a dead fascist, but in lieu of that, I'll very reluctantly accept a feeble fascist, in return for promises of better performance next time.

Once, during my studies, I read that archaeology is a destructive science. It destroys what it studies, so often archaeologists will try to excavate as little as possible.

Here in Italy it is a phone call. The doctor gives you a case number, which you pass on to your employer. Then you're eligible for sick pay from the national insurance.

Found the culprit.
An NC app named "Temporary files lock" allows apps to lock files, and the locks are by default indefinite. Open the Text app through the desktop client, and the Text app sets the lock, the desktop client marks the file read-only, but when you close the window with the Text app, the lock is not released, leaving the file locked for good.
I've disabled the files_lock app, as my instance is practically single-user.

This morning the file is still locked and I cannot edit it anywhere.

And I can open but not save the file from android client. It gets a ManuallyLockedException error.

Just tried to disable file locking at the server level, and the file still turns read-only when I open it through the desktop client.

Has the Text app locked the file?
That didn't happen earlier.

I use Debian Trixie w/Gnome and have the Nautilus NC extension installed. I have tried to update the NC Desktop client to a v33 from Debian testing, but to no avail.

I often edit markdown files by opening them in Nextcloud from the context menu in Gnome Files, as I like the NC Markdown editor.
However, after I updated my server to the latest NC, whenever I do it, the local file turns read-only.
It doesn't happen if I open the file through the NC web interface, but I hardly ever use that.
After I've edited a file, the local copy is read-only, which makes the function rather useless.

I agree with you, Aral, but I can see how we got here.
The EU wanted to regulate chargers, and all cables do charging, so in that situation the cable wasn't an issue.
Now, with much fancier cables, and especially because they do contain electronics inside the plug, such a cable also becomes e-waste. It is not simply a set of wires. It is in its own right an electronic device.
So yes, we need regulation so we can see which cable does what, to reduce e-waste.

Would the EU intervene over a product not following an industry standard, if there's no health or environment risk involved?
USB is an industry standard, not a law in any jurisdiction.
In fact, the owner of the standard, USB-IF is based in the US, not in the EU. Ensuring standards compliance is not a task for the EU in this case.

That's the producer going cheap, only wiring half the required connectors.
We can fault the EU with much, but not this.

I ended up labeling all my USB cables.
There's at least a dozen variations, from charging only to all internal 25 wires fully connected.
Obligatory markings in USB cables must be next.
