We haven't been posting a lot in this comm lately, but we've been still hard at work. I wanted to announce our latest release which includes an all-new interface for generating images via the AI Horde, this time hosted and developed by us directly: https://aihorde.net/generate/image
There's a ton of improvement on the backend as we support all newer models (Anima, Krea2 etc) and we're still complete free after 4 years of service.
If you don't have access to a powerful GPU, feel free to use the AI Horde. And if you have any idle GPU, no matter it's power, feel free to become a volunteer as well!

I don't understand the piefed.Social people at all. Are they just making up reality as they go along?

Note that just because I'm an admin, I don't do what I like. We explicitly reject the BDFL approach. Also you're missing the objective of rimu here; it's not to stop our admins from doing a specific thing, it's to agitate other instances to defederate us widely.

The [video I linked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA1qKvg4Mh8) for reference
I guess I was "sympathizing with invaders" because I said "Such an absolute waste of life, just for the vanity of one man."
Just patently ridiculous moderation...

> this is already bizarre behavior, uncharacteristic behavior, and to say the least inappropriate. then, the leader of ARAS shouted "helmets," and the ARAS troops donned their protective helmets and mounted their attack on the unprepared and unarmed anarchist students.

MLs never understand why Greek anarchists have such visceral reaction against tankies. It's a rough lesson learned many times.

Yes! Many times. It's so good. It covers a lot of the shortcomings of the base version, such as making solari impactful in more way and making spice useful on green spaces.

I always love adding further bling to my boardgames and since Dune: Imperium - Uprising is one of my absolute favorites, I jumped to make it further. First I printed a new first player token, which is a cool AF sandworm. Then I found a bunch of replacement tokens for the generic wooden token and printed those as well for the immersion. Currently I'm in the process of also printing out some fancy water "droplets" and then later on solari and spice ones.
After I printed the sandworm and the alliance tokens, I just couldn't leave it unpainted, so I decided it was time to dust-off my ancient wargame minis painting skills, so I invested in some new paints and went to work. I'm quite happy of the output for something I haven't done for at least 20 years now.

Thoughts: If the dragon's normal breath is fire, is means that their internal temperature is not low enough to cool down candlewicks. This is not much different than how human breath is warmer from the envionment. Form the perspective of, say, a lichen, a human's breath might as well be fire. Dragons are just run 10x as hot as humans. The question is, what material are they consuming in order to maintain this temperature constantly. Are they consuming coal as food?

Absolutely. It's just that redditors are used to the existing order and want to see it replicated in lemmy immediately, jumping over the underlying steps of community growing.

Was very excited to get this expansion as it added some elegant additions to the well-crafted formula. I managed to play 3 games since Friday with it (3pl) and the experience solidified my view on it and its place as one of my favorite board games.
Pic is from the first game we played.
The Sardaukar Commanders add a much needed early tempo option for Solari. Normally you don't really have anything to do with Solari in the early term, as it's usually not worth spending it for 1 water when you could be saving it for a council position or a swordmaster. However now with the Sardaukar in play in some easy to reach positions, it gives players an incentive to spend their early money to quickly grab one of them before they're all snatched away.
Likewise in the late game, once you have your council seat and swordmaster, Solari didn't have that much impact outside the occasional conflict or card. Now if you have a few Sardaukar in your employ, they give a significant power to your combat efforts by quickly translating your spare change into extra reinforcements, plus some good abilities. I really like the difficult decisions this opens.
Likewise Technologies give more versatility to spice. Without them, someone who didn't have a lot of access to the influence side of the board, didn't have a ton of options for using spice, other than going to the guild now and then. The Ix tech now allows someone who didn't get access to a lot of influence cards, or who doesn't care about combat as much, to use green cards to utilize their spare spice as well. I am always up for giving more options to the players. The tech effects can also be quite powerful when paired with the right leaders. I won my second game handily by making a tech-intrigue combo and just spamming troops out constantly through it.
Finally the new leaders are all quite nice, and I like the more unique directions they took with some of them like the Guild Navigator.
Ultimately, very very happy with this addition, even if some of my playing mates were more muted in their appraisal.

Captcha and email verification are trivially defeated by bots. If just getting lurkers is a concern, try using a registration application form like we do. Do you at least see these lurkers as MAU? (i.e. just voting)

2025-02-06 09:53:17 UTC

As a result, our instance https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/ got 625 new user registrations (of which 536 where accepted) in the past 24 hours! And the registrations are not abating even now. We still get like 10 new ones per hour!
I suspect this is probably the largest advertisement, for lemmy specifically, since the main reddit blackouts 1.5 years ago.
Have your own instances also seen an influx of new users?

Lots of releases since my [last post](https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/35517396) roughly 1 week ago. Suffice to say, I've been hard at work :)
* Threativore now allows [specifying a governance community](https://t.lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/lemmy.dbzer0.com/35725820). Posts in that community can be used for voting. Voting relies on the specified user tags within threativore to figure out which votes to count and which not. You can see this in action in our [very first voting thread in lemmy.dbzer0.com](https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/36114134).
* A lot more work has gone into preparing threativore to serve tags as flairs, with flair ordering mechanisms using env var definitions
* Two new threativore PM commands added
* vouching for users, which gives them a special flair and allows them to participate in votes. Vouching PMs are open to all trusted uses, has controls to prevent multiple/duplicate vouching, and PMs target and source accorindly.
* assigning/removing flair, which gives them the flair tag on threativore and PMs them accordingly. This is open only to threativore admins.
[The threativore manual](https://github.com/db0/threativore/blob/main/README_manual.md) has been updated with all relevant information for all of these

There's a bunch [soliciting guarantees](https://gui.fediseer.com/solicitations). As part of fediseer, it falls on all of us to maintain it. So please check the new instances and guarantee for any that are not spam (which should be most).
[Click this link to guarantee for some instances](https://gui.fediseer.com/solicitations)
Also reminder if you're the admin of an instance requesting a guarantee, by specifying who should be your guarantor, you will send them a PM to ask them.
