Last Notes

In my everlasting effort to build the #bicycle of #Theseus (I passed 50% swapped parts years ago) the next part that gets replaced is the rear brake caliper. This time I opted for a deore part that allows for brake pads with cooling fins, because steep hills and kids bike trailer. Let's hope this one will not make a mess and flood with brake fluid like the last one.
So what's left from the original bike?
- frame
- front fender
- front wheel
- handlebar (just the metal part)
- display unit (without internal battery, without gasket)
- cranks
- maybe one or two wires and zip ties
- shifter/derailleu/cabler (this one is next)
- one brake lever
Edit: the motor cover is stock as well, tricking thieves into thinking its the lower power variant while its a refurbished higher power one ;)

"since everything is 3d printed in the backyard, no two cars can be alike": standardized components still make sense, just because people will share design files and cooperate on improvement. Customization most likely will happen for aesthetic or special functional purposes. If you think about all the different makes and models of cars that are out there today, a main reason for all the different variants is to have something new to sell every year. If that incentive goes away and cars are designed by the actual users I expect that there will be less different base models. Of course the customizations based on those base models will be infinite.

They: "is this really your mail address?"
Me: "Well, its one specifically for you so in case you leak my customer data or sell it or start to send spam, I know it originates from you and I can blacklist you"
They: "No, we want your real mail address"
Me: "🤷‍♂ so just write me a physical letter I guess"

it should be possible to install some flavour of Linux on your old mac mini and use it as a NAS with external drives. Looks like its possible to use the mac HFS+ file system with Linux but journaling needs to be switched off first.
I am no mac guy and I like to tinker with stuff and avoid e-waste, so this would be the thing I would try. This level of low-level tinkering with software and possibly spending a few days getting it working is not for everyone, obviously.
NAS... Synology or QNAP maybe? After all, a NAS is just a normal computer in a special form factor with special software to make the config easy. Any old computer with a specialized software (e.g I run openmediavault) should do.
