tomorrow 明天
the day after tomorrow 后天
The day after the day after tomorrow 大后天
every time you add a day to it, you just add “大” in front of it
So you can describe many days without involving a number

In Chinese the word for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow has the same number of characters
Same for yesterday and the day before yesterday
Add one more character for the day after the day after tomorrow
Or one more character for the day before the day before yesterday

It’s controversial but Waymo doesn’t intentionally threaten bikers or pedestrians or verbally abuse them. And it doesn’t run red lights which I see every day in Boston. It’s a race AND a gamble between me walking through a crosswalk (with the pedestrian signal) and drivers turning onto that street that who can make it to the conflict point faster and who eventually yields.

I really wish T would put in an infill station near Victory Rd on the Braintree branch… there was a train station on that railroad before! And it’s right by National Guard base so it’s already state owned property I assume.

2026-07-20 15:41:40 UTC

Man I’m so angry and upset.
TLDR: Josh got scammed by lying door knocking reps switching electricity supplier.
I can’t believe Josh got scammed in March by door knocking sales people into switching electricity supplier to Nordic (yes notoriously). The sales rep actually claimed they work for Arcadia energy. They didn’t mention a word about Nordic. I don’t know what Josh was thinking at the time, because he told me not to trust strangers that come to our door, but he just somehow believed them and handed them the electricity bill (all they ever need to switch your supplier).
And Josh didn’t even tell me. A few weeks ago I saw him putting in credit card number on some website called Arcadia so I asked if he was buying more shoes 🤣 and he told me about Arcadia so I did some research. It didn’t look bad so I just let it slip.
Fast forward to last Friday. Josh sent me the Eversource bill which is $1100 for the past month. He didn’t usually do that, he’d just pay for them. But it is so high that he was surprised so he sent me to look at. We did use more energy compared with the same period last year. But a second look at the supplier rate caught my attention. It was almost doubled from $0.14 per kWh to $0.27. I asked him to send me all the bills this year and the supplier was switched from Boston Municipal program to Nordic three months ago. The rate was close to the municipal program for the first two months so we didn’t suspect a thing. But now it’s almost doubled. I started comnecting the dots and concluded that Josh got scammed back then.

That’s because they will happily double park too. Most of drivers anyway. They can imagine themselves doing that. A main factor why Dutch cycling infrastructure is so good is because most drivers also ride bikes.
That’s also why double parked cars on Boylston Street are so frowned upon because most of them are food delivery workers. Not saying it’s right. But people will happily blame them because they don’t imagine themselves delivering food.

So... My New York trip was to get a schengen visa from Hungary consulate because there isn't one in Boston...
In fact I shouldn't have applied with them at all because I miscalculated the days I'll be in Germany vs Hungary 🙄 the last two days of the river cruise from Budapest to Munich (or somewhere near Munich) are both already in Germany - I only counted 1. Per rules of Schengen visa, you need to:
- apply with the country you stay the most days in
- if there're more than one country where you stay equal days, apply with the country of the first entry
I thought I would stay the same number of days in Hungary and Germany. It turns out, I will stay one more day in Germany!
So the Hungary consulate in New York outright didn't accept my application. I went to New York for nothing but experiencing the blizzard!!!
Good thing is that Germany consulate uses an outsourcing company to take applications and it has an office in Boston... And it has plenty of availability...

But non tagged machines can reach others by default. I didn't know that changes when a machine gets tagged. I start understanding why a machine needs to be tagged before running services - once it's tagged, its role in the tailnet is changed fundamentally. It's not a personal device any more.

2026-02-17 03:28:49 UTC

- reply

Tailscale has some quirks that wasted me almost an hour!! Once a machine is tagged it has very strict ACLs - tailscale treats that machine as owned by that tag, not a human any more. It is then by default forbidden to access other devices in the tailnet, unless explicitly allowed by an ACL.
So yeah, my main docker machine, which is tagged, suddenly lost internet access because it couldn't reach the pi for DNS 😅
I didn't know this until I forced tailscale reauthorizing (because the machine can ping the pi on local IP, but not tailscale IP) and it worked. However it did because reauthorizing removes the tag. Once I added the tag back, it stopped working again. 😅 Then I realized the strict default ACLs applied to tagged machines...

Steam won't use this new drive I mounted
So frustrating
It turns out the KDE partition manager uses 0 0 for dump / pass fields on fstab which by default adds noexec flag to the mount
So steam is able to write a new directory but won't show that in the app (so you can't install games on it)
You need to explicitly add "exec" in the mount option in fstab and then steam works
