I had never thought this will happen but yesterday, I submitted a request to cancel my GNOME Foundation membership. The project has become a home for a bunch of toxic (some extremely, some less so) people, who are not only working against the interests of the future of the project, but also bullying anyone who doesn't agree with them. I don't want to be associated with such people in any way.
Besides, it's not like I have made any direct contributions to the project for more than a decade now. So nobody is going to miss me.

A few months ago, I was bullied by a few people (you know who you are) on #gnome-hackers matrix channel for my "lack of evidence" (which I had clearly provided) that many anti-LLM folks are quite aggressive. I eventually left the room because of the aggression I faced (oh, the irony!).
I understand how it's hard to accept the truth because of personal biases (I'm pretty sure I have the same issue, like the rest of us) but even the most biased person has to admit that this comment is as aggressive as it can possibly get:

Scam alert: if you get contacted by someone from Lua Ventures, it's a scam. DO NOT engage with them. They'll write a very personalized message and they're doing a very sophisticated job so it's very easy to fall for it. Have a look at their email to me.

I will be presenting at this week's Berlin Rust meetup, along with the Rust celebrity, @nprofile…t0lt .
RICO8: A new fun way to learn & master Rust
New to Rust and looking for a fun way to learn? Or are you already familiar with all the essentials and lacking the motivation to master the rest? Or perhaps you're already pretty fluent in Rust but never got a chance to code for constrained environments while were always curious about that? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you're in luck!
In this talk, I'll introduce a new project, that makes Rust programming a lot of fun, especially if you're fascinated by pixel art and/or retrogaming.

@nprofile…rtl5 projecting in the sky to us, of course. Why would I be so upset about something that doesn't affect 99.9999999% of the people.

Anyone know a criminal lawyer in the Berlin area?
My stepsons were recently robbed by some nazis and we want a lawyer present when police take their official statements.
Please RT.

I beg of you. Please talk to any Iranian people you know before posting your hot takes on today's news. 🙏
The most important thing is what (the majority of) the people need and want.

@nprofile…zlca there's a huge difference between the series and movies, then there are huge differences between different serieses and then you've huge differences between different seasons. I loved the first season of Discovery, the last season of Picard and the first 2 seasons of SNW.

Latest episode of Starfleet Academy is sooo boring. I'm so sick of teenage emotional drama..

zbus recently passed 20 million unique downloads on crates.io. 🎉 With downloads peaking consistently on weekdays (reaching to 70K on some days) and dropping drastically on the weekends, it's very obvious that most of this use is commercial.
So if you or your company relies on zbus, please consider sponsoring my work. 🙏 Resharing of this message would also help.

the best thing about this #FOSDEM was that #rustlang got the biggest devroom. That meant that there was no queue at all to get into the room and the room wasn't super packed so people could breath.

2025-01-09 21:38:16 UTC

woa! The #rustlang devroom has been assigned the largest of the devrooms at @nprofile…wcyk this year. Good bye queues!

forgive me father as I've sinned. I used unsafe keyword to workaround a borrow-checker limitation.

Coming from a heavy C background, one thing that always felt like a breath of fresh air in Rust, is that I can take any random library and be fairly certain that it's thread-safe.
In the C world, unless it's documented, you've to go through the code (not the API) to find that out the hard way.

It's not every day that you come home to your house entrance blocked by police, investigating a fatal stabbing incident. 😯

Also Putin: South Korea has nothing to worry about if its extremely hostile neighbour signs a defence pact.

After getting used to Rust's mutex APIs, I'm confused for a few seconds each time I encounter mutexes in other languages and platforms. Then I go "wait! The mutex is completely separate from the data it's protecting". What can go wrong. 😂
