Well this finally happened: Drinking an energy drink and suddenly realizing that it's too sweet for me. I don't think I can drink sweet things anymore.

If intellectuals for the most part end up being rapists, then it makes sense to strive to be stupid and never listen to a single educated opinion ever again.

2026-10-01 10:19:05 UTC

So many "smart" people who make videos end up being sex pests, it's almost an argument in favor of anti-intellectualism.

Building a narrative that fedi is somehow a queer space built by queers is a fantastical fallacy, because it ignores the reality of the technology and spaces it created being built by, for, and managed with petite techbros and people who'd play them second fiddle.

2026-09-20 15:41:39 UTC

"Fedi was *built* by furries, trans and queer folk!"
No. We didn't build it, but we did fight the people who did for every inch of space and features we carved for ourselves.

I mean, this instance is in a datacenter. Yours is likely to. So is every cool and useful webbed site you've ever seen. And I want to believe in humanity and trust that everyone knows the difference, but I know for a fact a lot of people who previously never though of the concept will come out of this decade forever triggered by the mere mention of the word.

Like, I know what's going on, so I generally keep my mouth shut because I'm not going to contribute anything productive to the discussion without offending people who don't know better, but it makes me legit mad how the word "datacenter" became turbo-derrogatory in just a few years thanks to ai bros.

I feel like AI is responsible for more than just damage to the information we have and environment we live in, it's also responsible for complete erosion of semantics and the way we talk bout things.

Bsky is having lolicon discourse again and I'm struggling to prevent myself from posting about how you can't extricate lolicon from anime, it's all lolicon all the way down for A LOT of tropes and genres.
Not to defend lolicon, I'm somewhat of a soft-anti, but just as a cognito-harazrd that will keep you up at night.

It's the most tech-optimistic take on factory automation I've seen so far. You're out there making the world better as you mission statement and your shareholders applaud you whenever your tech saves an orphanage because that, somehow, inexplicably, makes the line go up.

It's like if you took Factorio / Satisfactory, but instead of telling you that you are a drone of an uncaring, cruel corporation you are the CEO of a corporation that builds facilities exclusively designed to feed starving orphans worldwide and it somehow brings you massive dividends.

2026-05-14 21:41:06 UTC

Arknights Endfield introduces a very powerful escapist power fantasy to the world: Namely the fantasy of a company / corporation heavily invested in cutting edge tech that actually uses the tech to save and better lives of people it touches, and putting *you* in charge of it.

Watching a foreigner drive around Russia from Norway to Yekaterinburg and he's on this village road, which is like two-lane one-lane-per-direction road and he has police "following" him and he gets nervous, and I'm sitting in my chair, internally screaming "MY GUY THERE'S A SINGLE LINE PER DIRECTION. Sometimes it makes my blood boil when I see yet another discussion of "Do Japanese people really think it's ok to cheat if it's a sex worker?"
And like. First of all, that opinion is over-represented by social media over more sensible people. A foreign, "exotic" person saying "Wtf, that's still cheating, bro" does not generate views as much as the opposite does.
And second of all, like, that's also a bit of projecting going on. Not every culture will adhere to a puritanical standard.

The key difference between Fedi and Bluesky, well, one of the key differences that I can observe, is that right now, there's a dude who scraped 3 billion and then some users of the site and mapped them onto identifiable categories of gender, politics, topics, etc, and on fedi, this kind of clown would have been hounded off the platform for scraping data.

That's exactly my take all along, lole.
Punisher is, at least originally, someone who goes on killing "criminals" because he believes them to be criminals and thus deserving of being shot. It's the whole reason both Police and ICE love the character so much. He represents lack of accountability and complete insusceptibility to any kind of due process, judicial or communal, doesn't matter.

Except where Mass Effect 2 had bespoke character writing and design, Outlaws has nothing, because every resource that could have been spent on crafting good narrative missions that flesh out the characters and building character interactions went into creating one of the emptiest, dullest and disinterested open worlds to date.

2025-07-25 09:46:59 UTC

Hearing Ubisoft blame the current state of Star Wars for the failure of Outlaws feels really funny considering what Outlaws actually is, which is Ubisoft's attempt at making Mass Effect 2 without actually understanding what made ME2 so good.
Outlaws here that has an illusive, rich man who sets you up with a ship, a companion on his payroll and a list of specialists you have to recruit across the galaxy in order to complete a very big and important heist that's almost a suicide mission.

I really like how playful Isekai Ojisan is with it's point of view.
I'm on the episode where Ojisan wakes up with two babes in his bed and typically he'd be the viewer insert character, the power fantasy. But not in this show. His cousin and cousin's friend are the actual viewer inserts. The scenes are the same stupid isekai harem shit, but this shift in point of view really makes it... actually funny.

Roko's basilisk's core idea of "Computer that's going to drastically improve out lives is going to punish us for not working towards building it" is absurd no matter which way you can cut it. The thing you understand about TF2 getting it's source released in new SDK update is that Valve aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts or as a token of good will towards community.
They are sick to the stomach of their community clinging to an old game Valve clearly communicated it has no interest in maintaining, constantly whining and demanding action.
This is basically "Fuck off and do it yourselves, then, we ain't lifting a finger for this old scrap".

And while it doesn't sound so bad because it means enemy can't see shit from orbit as well, it also means that you and your allies can't see shit from orbit either. Nobody can do anything. You have eliminated a strategical advantage you had, eliminated the possibility to re-establish it (because there's too much junk now covering our orbit to even consider launching something out there), trapping us forever on earth and blocking any interaction with outer space for millennia to come.

2025-02-19 21:22:45 UTC

By that point in time, yeah, you have disabled potentially dangerous and disadvantageous orbital weaponry your adversary has deployed, but at the same time you have denied your enemy, and what's most importantly, yourself, a huge and indispensable advantage of a myriad of spy, communications and relay satellites that were also orbiting the Earth.
You heard that right. You have disabled a potential doomsday weapon but in doing so rendered yourself 100% myopic. Nobody can see shit.

2025-02-19 21:20:46 UTC

We're not going to name names here to avoid a bias, but let's say country Alpha has an orbital weapons platform deployed and country Gamma decides to ram their satellite into it to shut it down.
What happens next is that derbies generated, with high likelihood, fly all over and start damaging and destroying all other orbital apparatus, this time without discerning who's friend and who's foe, triggering a cascading, total orbital shutdown.

2025-02-19 21:18:47 UTC

That part being: There's too much functioning and important shit we have floating up there than we'd like to admit and all of that shit is potentially indispensable in military applications.

2025-02-19 21:17:58 UTC

Watching this video on orbital weapon platforms from CoD Ghosts and the guy mentions how such a weapons platform would be ridiculously easy to neutralize without launching a manned / unmanned space mission by simply colliding a satellite into it or launching a missile from high altitude, and while that's all fine and dandy and is actually grounded in reality, I feel like this kind of countermeasure ignores one of the sadder parts of humans exploiting the orbit.
