remember this when people tell you that AI is “good for accessibility”

man I _really_ do not like the way that Mastodon presents being blocked. I do not begrudge anyone the right to block me, but the fact that mid-conversation all their posts just gradually start disappearing as if the server is having an outage, and replies start intermittently failing, even attempting to reply to _other_ people in the same conversation even though their replies come through to me, is an incredibly obnoxious UX

just a programming note for those of you who may not remember your 20th century history that precisely, Niemöller's poem wasn't about the Night of the Long Knives

@nprofile…8atu yes, and:
1. “it’s never been easier” doesn’t mean it’s easy
2. mastodon is a big fish in this tiny pond and its influence will be felt across all other frontends, at least to match user expectations and more likely as a best practice
3. bad design offends even if one need not interface *with* this bad design
4. this is _social_ software so even if I go off into my own hole with a completely custom frontend, I still must contend with the effects of its affordances on others

I managed to mostly ignore the state of the world and explore very abstract programming problems. Built way more momentum than last time! The VOD is up, if you missed it and want to check in: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2300137530

In about 45 minutes I am going to try to just have a couple of regular hours of attempting to do some Python programming on a Mac desktop app over at <https://www.twitch.tv/glyph_official>, as per the schedule I actually managed to have posted in advance

Felt pretty calm yesterday and thought I was basically fine. Still doing *pretty* well today, but really feeling the intense waves of panic and dread and despair in a way I wasn't yesterday.
This sucks, y'all.

I've been occasionally unfortunate to be in "advisory" roles where I was brought in due to my ~vibe~ of being "smart", implicitly to give my imprimatur of "smartness" to some bad strategy. This is a cushy gig. It's easy. Just repeatedly give a bunch of the same basic advice to people incentivized to humor and ignore you. It is, however, toxic to one's career development and bone-grindingly frustrating.
It felt a lot like what being a critic of blockchain or LLMs feels like.

My kid just wanted to do an impression of me giving a talk and they shifted into a much louder register and said “blah blah blah apple blah blah blah python blah blah blah docker blah blah blah” and I have never been roasted so hard in my life

@npub1h64…3vku as an MIT media lab project this would be incredibly impressive. as a company, it's a tech demo for … what? a robot that can very slowly move objects around in an incredibly sterile lab environment, in response to verbal commands? Is this a cost-effective response to an actual problem? You are clearly meant to *infer* that this robot could autonomously do a factory or sanitation job, but that is not what we are actually being shown.
