@nprofile…cwxr First time I saw HDR demonstrated (at a SMPTE meeting), I was like… this is WAY TOO bright. The simultaneously ‘downconverted’ standard HD picture, however, looked perfectly fine.
My opinion then was that it was great for acquisition, but horrible as a display format in the home or on your phone. That opinion hasn’t changed much in the intervening decade lol.

If you’ve never done productions like this one before, thoroughly investigate how much time it will take to do it. Better to avoid surprises down the road with larger than expected bills.
Lastly, add a few % to the quote for unforseeable contingencies and profit.
Oh, and never do anything for a fixed rate, you will be screwed.
(I used to do a lot of this in the 2000s, before the market dropped out.)

Three big things you should consider for your quote:
First, your “day rate” for shooting the raw material, which should include the cost of equipment used, media, your time, and the time of an audio person (should you hire one). Second, there’s the hourly rate for editing the video, and generating deliverables. Third, how much effort/time is required in pre-production, production, and post-production.
All rates should reflect the going rates for professionals/gear in your market.

@nprofile…kn3x I’ve never seen a young person willingly put that channel on anywhere. I have, however, seen the owner of a McDonalds restaurant run it on their TVs in their franchise… which was so unpopular with the clientele that they ended up having to change it… to C-SPAN. 😂

@nprofile…kn3x That propaganda outlet has been the Voice of Hysteria for at least 26 years. My first personal experience with that network - circa 2001, not long after 9/11 - was at my then GF’s parents house… and it gave me palpitations. I couldn’t fathom having that running in my home all day long… but that’s what people do with it. In the absence of friends and activities… Fox News.

Is this one of HBO’s old in-house transfers? (It used to be their standard practice to do telecine transfers themselves. I seem to recall that they were doing that as late as the first HBO airing of Titanic.)

Someone used to manufacture a “Media Carousel” that stored 150 discs, were stackable, and USB controllable. However, I think they’re each about the same size as the DVD/CD binders… and I’m not sure they’re made anymore.
The “best” space efficient solution I’ve seen is putting the discs into paper tyvek sleeves, into drawers in rows, which are interspersed with tall yellow inserts denoting each letter (see pic).
I’d love to know of better solutions, however.

@nprofile…eczv While they did arrive in New York, I’m not sure how that pilot is doing. There are ways to phrase disagreements with Air Traffic Control, and then there’s… that kind of thing, which makes me gulp when I read it.
I don’t think I’ve quite scrambled as quickly to see what other messages from a craft came through as I did for that one.
