Classic VC model: Fund a billion companies with the hope that something works out. I remain pretty skeptical that you can build a company worth anything off nostr. Just seems more like an interesting and useful protocol for devices and apps, rather than something to base a whole business around.

Interesting. I'll admit, I don't know what rust code looks like, just C and its derivatives. Do you have any thoughts on why LLMs might do a better job here?

Ripping out is def where I'd be most worried since you're kicking up dust and such. I had to replace the old, blown-in insulation in an attic and it was not fun at all. Godspeed 🫡

Buggy doesn't even describe it well enough! Every single Ubuntu install I've made over the last 10 years has one of those "Something unexpected happened!" crash dialogs pop up after about 5 minutes of being idle on the desktop. Even on completely fresh installs, on a variety of different kinds of hardware and VMs. I truly do not understand how that's acceptable.

Is nostr just a glorified toy? Why aren't people flocking to it as their favorite apps enshittify?

Absolutely, streaming has gotten quite good. I'd say we're pretty close to the only issue being distance from the datacenter!

Cloud gaming is cool, but for a lot of genres, there's always going to be a latency problem unless you have a datacenter in your back yard. Honestly, these days you can get away with some pretty basic parts if you stick to indie games and old games. :)

I don't think going to a meetup is an opsec issue. Just be mindful about what sort of personal info you're sharing with other attendees.

Earliest instance I can think of is when Facebook switched to an algo feed and went for endless scrolling rather than friend's feeds and pages. Anything that prioritizes keeping the user on the page longer, rather than quickly delivering information to them.
I believe this is about the point silicon valley went from making computer software to making "services" that are designed to extract value from their users.

I think our wires are getting crossed. When Bill said "mempool already has a hard cap", he meant the size of blocks is limited, by consensus. The size of the mempool (the *entire* mempool, including the backlog) is configurable per-node.

Indeed. I recall mempool.space had to increase their official node's mempool limit since transactions weren't showing up with the default limit.

Indeed. 4MB/block max, and usually much less. Mempool size is already growing much more slowly than the capacity of storage devices. Not to mention, you can do just about everything you could possibly need to with a pruned node running on a 20GB drive.

Android phones are friggin massive, and each time I have to adjust my grip, it's another chance to drop the phone.
Apple has had this search flow figured out since the 4th or 5th iPhone, so it's a little wild to me that this isn't the default behavior on AOSP. Is Google Android and Samsung Android also this backwards?
