@nprofile…38vg that wasn't a friendly reminder. It was exactly the absolute opposite.
And no, I don't buy your timing claim. You don't do a single thing without knowing exactly what you are doing, the most likely repercussions, consequences and outcome.
Also: I'm off. I've already used the information however I liked, in full accordance to your advice.

@nprofile…38vg This is something that you, as the Chair of the #XSF Council, should've discussed with the Monocles dev (an elected member of the Board) inside the XSF
Making it a public post, less than 3 months in advanced of the Board and Council Elections was a slithering move, a pretty cheap shot .. *even* if it comes from you
I'll use this information to conclude that your actions speak a lot worse about you than they do about Monocles and its dev

@nprofile…ehvw I'll give it to you that onboarding could be kind of an issue, but #XMPP has come a really long way in that regards. From the server side of things (with mod_invites) just as from the client side with easy onboarding straight from the app without having to create an account from a web page or anything like that.
Onboarding from a recent (mid 2025) client is as easy as installing the app, open it, choose create account, pick one from the drop down list of server, provide a password. Done.

@nprofile…0f84 absolutely agree. Be it to a higher or lesser degree: we all do. We deserve the right to be protected from harmful behavior, commercial practices and business models. Corporations are not human beings, they are just a juridical fiction. We, in contrast, are real people that deserve so much more protection by the law of the State we create to keep us safe from abusive practices and the imperium of the law of the strongest.

2026-05-12 14:41:52 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…fu0r excellent article!. I know you have what it takes to solve the issues at stake.
But, given Meta's ineffective and systematic failure to enforce their self imposed restrictions to prevent underage citizens from exposure to age-inappropriate experiences, wouldn't it be time to start thinking about taking away their right to do so and begin to impose them legislated planned restrictions in accordance to the law of the state instead of shifting the burden on the citizen's shoulders?

2026-05-12 13:47:35 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…fu0r absolutely!. Now start by scrutinizing Meta and Alphabet products designs and business models and ban those that expose children's safety and imperil their right to grow up free, safe and protected.
Don't ever forget to put the burden on the perpetrators, not on the victims. That's the way it works, not the other way around.

@nprofile…38vg to the question "Does this happen often that you want to scan a document and immediately send it?", the real answer would be yes. But not in the context of an XMPP conversation. It just would have been a nice convenience feature to have if it was for free ( as in no need to implement it in your code ). Still, thank you a lot for your concern and interest on the needs of your client's users!

@nprofile…38vg thank you for the explanation!.
I do have to scan documents on a daily basis as our legal system is 100% digital and all documents have to be uploaded as pdf files through the Judicial Power electronic portal. Having direct access to FairScan from within Conversations would've been a nice feature but not something that'd depend on, as I've managed to do all my work without such a feature .. so, no, no real need to implement it. @nprofile…38vg I think you are 100% correct on your assumption: it won't move the needle at all
But, personally, I fail to see how that's a good reason enough not to follow that path and drastically reduce the amount of metadata as any step on that direction can only bring beneficial results for the whole ecosystem regardless of the impact on the adoption rate.
As a matter of fact, at least 3 of the points you described on your technical details should probably be already implemented.
