short range communication is absolutely necessary with some way to secure the communication. Long range would be good to have. Just the basics would be great if its something that's widely accessible and replication is possible. But there is a lot more that can be integrated with that can be an longer conversation with people interested.

some peer to peer Bluetooth apps work. But they so small in number that they get instantly blocked the moment they get popular.

Before you come at me that there are xyz tools. Remember I have spent almost a decade working on shutdowns and I have tested all your tools.. I am telling you there arent enough and those that are there havent been tested for deployment on ground or are not easy to access

There are soo many safety issues when people cant communicate. Why is this not a priority for technologists who care about rights ?

[Rant] As some one who lives in a country with the highest number of internet shutdowns and has extensively researched and worked on it, i find it incredibly frustrating that there arent enough tools to enable safe communication. The tools that are recommend and heavily funded mostly fail and no one cares. I have been vocal about the need of tools to be tested in environments of deployment only to meet deaf ears.

[Thread] What do you mean by "spy app " and "surveillance app" ?
In the past two days it has been interesting to see the discourse on the introduction of sanchar saathi application in India. The Indian government has been releasing some pretty weird "measures" to tackle cyber crimes ( fraud and online harassment). There has been no rationale behind these measures and they mostly come from the traditional policing frameworks. But what's interesting is also the reactions to these measures.

After a few weeks of sleeping well. My insomnia is back. It took me four months (including two months of complete rest ) to be able to sleep well last time. Chronic insomnia is exhausting.

The vegetarian might have won the Nobel prize in literature but my favourite Han Kang book is definitely Human Acts. For someone who does not consider herself an activist her writing in this book is so real.
Definitely a must read.

Insomnia is hard. I have had chronic insomnia for more than two decades now. Those who have experienced it know how it wrecks you and disorients you. In a society there is a norm for when you sleep and most people around you function with that structure. Those of us who can't sleep feel lost, guilty and are misunderstood. We are so easily labelled unprofessional, lazy and insensitive. Thankfully I am at peace with myself now. But those of you who are struggling with it I see you and send love 💜

ya it's unfortunate how hate is considered a norm and humanity is considered betrayal and how much courage it takes everyday for everyone who wishes to be human.

Today I saw a video of a reporter asking a kid about their opinion on the India Pakistan situation. The kid expressed that he hopes both countries prosper and everyone feels safe. The reporter went on to ask the kid why he does not wish ill for pakistan if he is patriotic. The kid calmly responded saying I don't need to wish ill for anyone in another country to be patriotic, they are also human beings. The reporter went ahead to ask his name ( a way to insinuate his religion ).

Conferences esp on digital rights can you please support civil society to attend without us contributing our labour or money. This is very important because we are already extending ourselves in this space and conferences should not add burden.
