Went to the nature reserve nearby. Walked all of 500m. Picked up an entire bin bag full of rubbish, including a disposable BBQ (which they kindly left with all their other rubbish in a paper bag next to bagged up dog poop). I didn't even make a dent in the cigarette butts littering everywhere. It's still very dry here.
I just can't with people today... It breaks my heart to still see so much carelessness for our environment.

what cool idea, looking forward to hearing how it went! Here it's a battle between slugs and cabbage whites mostly, so mine get coddled with a wool collar and fine mesh netting. There are a couple of sacrificial cabbages planted for butterflies but the slugs seem to be winning that one! (Zone 7-8a depending on whether the map was updated re climate change)

i used to have some sort of local hot spot of these in my garden! There were several over several years (pics on my inat), found in Norfolk. Before that I'd only ever seen one on Dartmoor.

Evacuations and flood mitigation preparations continue, as whole regions in central Europe now expect peak flood waves. Knocks on the door in the middle of the night - the water is close, please evacuate. Elsewhere, clean-up begins.
I can only imagine how exhausted everyone is. It's not over yet.

The situation in central Europe remains difficult for those in flooded or at risk regions. In many places, final or peak waves of flooding are not expected until later this week. It's not yet over.

It's been a tough night in central Europe, and for many, the worst of the floods is still ahead.
