honestly I'm pretty amused that they think they can do better than git with vibe coded slop. Human engineers made a system that isn't efficient enough? Simply tell the human-engineer-code-thief to plagiarize something faster! Surely this will result in a version control system that meets their needs, rather than a steaming pile of security vulnerabilities that only works intermittently by random coincidence!

true. I assumed you were making a generalization about all sentient beings being kept as pets, but I actually don't have much of a counterpoint for rats specifically. I figure it probably depends on the home, but I've definitely seen rats that were probably stressed to hell being pets (eg, roommates had cats that loved to sit outside the cage and watch them 😬 which sounds extremely stressful for the rats)

idk, my cat seems to get less and less stressed now all of his needs are attended to and he doesn't have to worry about getting run over by a car or not being able to find his next meal... I wish we were better at communicating with them so we could really give them a choice, but tbh if I could shirk the responsibilities of capitalism and live in the house of someone big who feeds me and loves me and my only job is to nap and play and receive affection... I totally would

I'd happily help a Democrat win a campaign by telling them what they'd need to do to get my vote and the votes of a lot of other people with similar priorities. but whenever I offer any sort of help besides shutting up and voting blue no matter who, or yelling at other people to do that, suddenly I must be trying to sabotage them 🤔 which sounds to like if a coworker gave me advice on how to do a task better and not get fired, and I accused them of trying to get me fired

From what I've seen, the state of fatphobia among normies and among all of centralized social media is absolutely *dire.* If you've got any friends who are on centralized social media or keep up with celebrities, please make sure to remind them that fat bodies are by default beautiful, healthy, and strong. That a lack of beauty, health, or strength is never actually because of the fat; that a lack of beauty actually does not fucking matter whatsoever. That we all need food to survive.

unfortunately, I've noticed the conservative model is kind of the default, and any family I've observed who isn't explicitly leftist and anti-top-down-hierarchy uses it even if they're generally not conservative. My dad was a socialist and my mom is a liberal: we used the conservative family model. My in-laws are some sort of progressive, and they used it too. Even my lefty loved ones trying not to implement the conservative family structure in their families to some degree

that's a fair point. I'm not quite convinced you can't talk about covert predation without policing other's language abt overt predation, but I understand the desire for a word.
I'm not talking about thoughts 🤦 someone coming up to me to tell me what they want to do to me is not engaging in thought crimes, they are saying words aloud and they are usually making me feel unsafe. Idgaf what someone thinks of me as long as they don't force me to listen to their fantasies of me as a sex object

I'm using it in the colloquial sense, behavior that sexualizes someone without their consent and is likely to make them uncomfortable. I'm sure creepy used to mean people who did it slowly, but that's not how it's always used now, and that's not the most common use I've seen for it. Hate it all you want, use the term however you see fit, but language evolves and you can't stop it from doing so without having more control over other people than anyone should ever have.

going up to a stranger and telling them you want to have sex with them is creepy. Complementing the color they dyed their hair could be flirty or friendly, and it's not creepy as long as you let them choose which it is. If they don't want to flirt with you, they won't, and it could just be a passing friendly complement

the society we were born into is led by powerful people with a vested interest in us not knowing the best way to resist oppressive structures. We were all fed fiction with a Hero who was The Chosen One and The Only One Who Can Do The One Big Important Thing. We were all taught we're either the main character or unimportant. It's hard to unlearn all that, and most people just haven't yet (and many will never)

to be fair to the instructors, I'm pretty sure I could've finished my courses if I had gotten treated for my ADHD by then instead of after leaving 😅 but I'm not gonna be "fair" to the university bc not only didn't they help me whatsoever with the ADHD, but they did *not* pay those instructors nearly enough. If they had a master's degree and not a doctorate, it was in the $50-60k range. In California, by the coast 😐 which didn't really encourage me to continue my education in the same fields

Yk what this might work in a culture where this information was regarded as private/personal
But uh that is not the one most of us live in
Instead, anyone who befriends us (or customer service) is expected to know our birthday because that's the day that we get to pretend the world revolves around us and no one minds as much as when people do that all the time 😂
And anyone who wants to fuck or date us, and sometimes even just friends, are expected to know our age
But birthday + age = password 🙃

the two biggest problems with kids seeing porn online:
1) often they did not want to see porn (e.g. when my sister went to something along the lines of disneyplayhouse.com and it was porn)
2) often the porn they see is misogynistic, rapey, and unrealistic, and that's the closest thing to sex ed they get
Problem #1 can be solved by forcing websites to simply make people aware that there is porn there before seeing it? And problem #2 can be solved by real actual sex ed 🤷

I agree with that, that sex-negativity is harmful even coming from sex-repulsed aces. I do not agree with the implication that the asexual community in general is sex-negative, especially directly replying to an asexual person's sex-positive post. My point is, if instead of focusing on the harmful behaviors some people do (sex negativity and censorship, which come from allosexuals more often than not), we blame the asexual community, that's really not helping anyone.

Like idk, if someone is posting in protest to X, it seems wrong to say they allowed X to happen any more than the rest of us did. Plus, yk, no community is a monolith

If someone sets a new year's resolution to shower every day, it means they appreciate the value in showering every day but struggle to. Which probably means they're disabled. I don't know who else you could have been referring to.

"disabled people should just stop being disabled" thanks, I'll take that advice into consideration, it's probably very helpful

yes, exactly. I think there's a common standard of "what's all the text in the image and a basic description of the picture(s)". And personally I consider a basic description of the pictures to be the things I would hope someone to know.
Usually, I don't describe the colors of shoes on a stranger in a crowd. But I would mention the colors of a closeup of pride shoes.
(First image CW for USpol and genocide. Wish I could only mark that one 😅)
But past that, you can relax.

you do seem genuine right now, and if that's the case I'd say you're overthinking this a lot. If no one gives you feedback on your alt text, it's probably because your alt text is fine. And unless the specific focus of your post is architecture, I don't think anyone really expects you to give a detailed description of all the buildings. "A city skyline" or "a few small houses" are probably enough unless you're trying to say something specific about them, and then you'll know.

disabled people, with occasional misunderstandings, usually can tell if your goal is genuine accessibility or just to get us to give you praise or stop asking for accommodations. I'm not sure in this case, but clearly Robert interpreted you as the latter, probably because you keep asking over and over again. If it's actually accessibility that you want, harassing blind people is not the way to get it.

if I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you actually want to provide perfect alt text, Robert was still right when he said you shouldn't bother trying. Because everyone has different wants and needs. You can't get alt text that will satisfy everyone.
Maybe stop viewing it as "how do I get every disabled person to like me?" and instead consider "what information would I want about this image if I were hearing it through a screen reader?"

https://tube.tchncs.de/w/uymuqrqAWymf6Wys7EmQ7f because I don't want to take up too much server space on a Masto instance, and https://youtu.be/tjpycRB2rrc in case it gets deleted off of PeerTube like previous videos have. The downside of posting links is that I can't add alt text, but there's a description on PeerTube.
Light display in the corner was going to be added to the robot in the form of an RGB light, but I ended up giving up on importing the data so I took the light out 😅

My assignment for my robotics class is to choreograph a dance, I'm going for Bad Romance. Also gonna make it a Lady Gaga costume. I'll be posting video once it's done!

in the further interest of solidarity with (other?) disabled people, do you think you could replace the word "lame" in the alt with "uncool" or something else that isn't tied to disability? "This person looks like they have a mobility impairment" isn't an insult in my book /nm
