64 gbs of non expandable storage is brutal 😭

2026-10-29 18:13:42 UTC

Updated some software recently and it actually made it better and not drain my system resources as fast. Who knew that was possible?!

2026-10-29 13:33:36 UTC

Not letting myself have an energy drink today. 💪 I'll add more protein to my diet and take it slow instead of maxing out caffeine and sugar.

2026-10-29 13:29:37 UTC

Should I become a tech larper and focus on style over utility? 🤪

2026-10-29 02:40:30 UTC

Reading "Half Past Human" and all the casual cannibalism in the story is an *interesting* choice.

2026-10-28 04:25:36 UTC

I keep forgetting the default for countries is to be harsh on weed and maximize alcohol. 😮‍💨

2026-10-27 01:24:50 UTC

Ugh I wish we had ranked voting as the standars for elections

2026-10-26 19:49:55 UTC

My friends and I were the only folks under 50 that I could see at the voting booth today. I feel like young people are failing themselves by not doing this bare minimum part of directing our lives.

2026-10-26 17:33:43 UTC

Ordered the XReal 1 Pro+ with prescription lenses and the XReal eye camera. I'm pretty excited to have a less janky mic/camera setup for my cyberdeck and the onboard spatial tracking with extra large virtual displays should be nice. We'll see if it gets here in time for my next trip. (probably not)

2026-10-26 13:40:38 UTC

Christians should return to the principles of Distributism instead of hyperfixating on hating minorities while their world burns down around them.

#gemini Gemtext over content addressed blobs over #reticulum over #LoRa.

2026-10-26 11:48:46 UTC

Voting day ottawa! It's the least you can do.

2026-10-25 02:43:03 UTC

It's frustrating how often abled people take up the acessible bathrooms when there's regular ones available. Folks with mobility issues literally don't have a choice.

2026-10-24 22:12:14 UTC

Coding on my cyberdeck at the furwalk 🤓

2026-10-24 13:31:50 UTC

Seems folks have appropriated the term "code rot" for some neo mystical BS. Like "the universe has code rot and is glitching" from what I can tell.

2026-10-23 15:47:13 UTC

Gonna start zero indexing in meatspace to add some extra charm (incomprehensibility)

2026-10-23 14:47:08 UTC

Still tryin to hold on to being a morning person. Slept until 7:30 ish today and woke up before my alarm

if you get an LLM to load a tool call with it's template's stop token it kills itself.

2026-10-22 16:34:19 UTC

Hey #Ottawa I'm getting my local LLM to trawl through candidates for the upcoming election. Would folks be interested in seeing the results of its research? I'm mostly interested in candidates stances on housing/policing/public transit issues.

2026-10-22 11:45:24 UTC

Day three of starting work before dawn is going pretty good. It's kinda nice that everyone in the house is asleep. Some of my coworkers schedules start around this time which is convenient.

2026-10-21 16:41:39 UTC

This is The Feature of Theseus with how much I've had to rewrite huge chunks of this pull request now. 😮‍💨

2026-10-21 13:33:56 UTC

Seeing dawn is neat.

2026-10-21 04:17:53 UTC

Amazing night to be doom scrolling the fedi 🤌

2026-10-20 22:45:36 UTC

neat vector database. https://github.com/qdrant/qdrant
it can be a server or be embedded locally.

2026-10-20 22:33:26 UTC

So eepy. 6:30 am wakeup was nice for afternoon post work stuff, but I've got less energy for evening meetup stuff

2026-10-20 15:25:49 UTC

I feel like the woker with how I already know (and have hands on experience) all the accessibility stuff we're being taught in this workshop. 🤪

2026-10-20 00:49:03 UTC

Found this neat CLI for duckduckgo search. Currently figuring out how it works so I can add it to some other tools. seems they don't auto-flag nodejs and python scripts as bots but do for curl/wget.

2026-10-20 00:15:28 UTC

Proud of myself for saying "No thank you" instead of "I'd rather die" when asked to give my personal info for some points thing at the store

2026-10-19 21:58:45 UTC

With the daytime shrinking so much, maybe I can convince my job to let me work 5PM to 1AM instead of my usual 9 to 5 so I can get more sunlight time in.

2026-10-19 21:36:46 UTC

Thanks W3C! I can't find info about how to unsub from your mailing lists thanks to cloudflare putting me in a "prove you're human" loop. 🙃

2026-10-19 16:16:21 UTC

Vibe coding a code editor is counter to your goals because you're less likely to actually use its features and will end up leaving a bunch of obvious bugs. Great example: the `fresh` editor's LSP features are riddled with off by one errors that the dev would have seen if they actually used it to code.

2026-10-19 13:32:15 UTC

Revelaed to me in a dream: Skibidi toilet is old enough to vote

2026-10-17 00:07:51 UTC

Sould I get a new head mounted display I can bring with me walking + coding (better fov, perscription lenses), or should I get the Steam Frame VR headset for a bit more gaming and being stationary and less "walking and coding". Long form thoughts appreciated. #vr #ar #steamframe

2026-10-16 18:20:14 UTC

I play a little game with my friend where we try to stalk each other before we meet up to see who can find the other first.

2026-10-15 18:57:17 UTC

I'm begging developers to please index the data they're storing locally in their apps so that it can be fast. I get IndexedDB users are kinda cooked if you also want encryption at rest, but folks using Sqlite have no excuse.

2026-10-15 16:00:40 UTC

I've been thinking about this video once every few months since it first came out.

2026-10-15 15:04:42 UTC

Endearing myself to new people by rambling about surveillance companies making "automated kill chains" on my first meeting. 🤪

2026-10-14 18:54:49 UTC

My current tech strat is to deinfluence startups from what's trendy and point them to "boring" tech that will get the job done and be more stable.

2026-10-14 17:14:59 UTC

Should I abandon all my social connections for a pararomantic relationship with a chatbot?

2026-10-14 16:17:03 UTC

Womp womp, turns out this refactor is taking more tinkering than anticipated.

2026-10-14 03:05:01 UTC

I currently don't have an easy to use matrix client. 😵

2026-10-13 19:46:13 UTC

My setup is weird enough now that I might as well switch to NixOS.
https://github.com/gnull/nixos-rk3588

2026-10-13 19:30:18 UTC

Womp womp, I need to rethink this system because JSON-RPC can't handle binary blobs. Might end up using the same shape but with length prefixed cbor packets.

2026-10-13 19:28:43 UTC

(joking) AI has taught me that you can do a "planning phase" before you write your code to avoid having to rewrite it a bunch of times. 🤪

2026-10-10 16:10:38 UTC

Managed to order a shawarma in My broken French

2026-10-08 23:17:01 UTC

It's tough out there.

2026-10-07 20:20:06 UTC

This ass backwards subsystem is impossible to fucking test for failure conditions. 😭 Adding anything means touching half a dozen classes in really hacky and gross ways.

2026-10-07 19:50:13 UTC

Maybe the real Torment Nexus is the friends we made along the way. 🥰

2026-10-07 15:48:35 UTC

TIL about Promise.withResolvers(). Seems I don't need to make ad-hoc deferred promises or import p-defer anymore! #JavaScript

I hope folks in the southern hemisphere are enjoying their spring extra hard as I descend into Canadian winter. 🥲

2026-10-06 16:29:27 UTC

Daily reminder that cloudflare's "verify you are human" thing is bullshit and regularly block loops alternative web browsers. If you really need it, use Anubis instead. https://anubis.techaro.lol/

2026-10-06 05:26:51 UTC

Machines are actually pretty fragile and fallible compared to flesh. 🤷

2026-10-05 23:16:01 UTC

Talking to" agreeable" LLMs will in turn make you more like them. Every interaction goes two ways.

2026-10-05 17:53:13 UTC

This bug only shows up when I run the full e2e test suite but I can't get the full log when that happens and it takes forever to run. 🙃

2026-10-05 14:03:41 UTC

Last week I set my local LLM to do it's first mission where it vibe coded some integration tests for me. I added a "allow local file edits" mode to my harness a little while ago but I hadn't had time to actually give it a go. I spent some time as I was logging off work to go on a date to make a plan with the LLM to test some changes to our replication code and gave it some constraints on which shell tools it'd be auto-allowed to use and set it off.

2026-10-05 13:53:09 UTC

Becoming the kind of asshole that asks for people to summarize what their AI chatlog is about instead of reading it myself.

2026-10-03 14:13:24 UTC

New tattoo today. 🤤

2026-10-01 19:50:11 UTC

Feels good to be back in the part of the codebase I can be more productive in.

2026-10-01 18:19:22 UTC

Can we stop the "prove you're human" checks now that vision models can solve them better than some humans and standardize on a hashcash HTTP challenge/response so we can mitigate the scraping asymmetry while ditching the surveillance JS bloat? Please?

2026-10-01 17:54:39 UTC

LOL. Someone made it so you could invite a person to a project with the "Blocked" role. Imagine.

2026-10-01 17:14:10 UTC

ADHD meds are more effective when paired with old school gabber mixes. #ProTip

2026-09-30 18:47:10 UTC

So pissed off I'm switching back to a regular keyboard so I can rage type faster.

2026-09-30 18:02:00 UTC

Slop devs don't respect api stability

2026-09-29 00:43:22 UTC

playing MORSE to learn how to write morse code. Seems fun so far.

2026-09-28 22:48:18 UTC

Been revisiting local models again. The state of the art for it's size is apparently MiniCPM5 right now. It can do very basic code related tasks but it's still way too stupid to do actual tasks. Might be enough for my "speech to code to speech" idea though?
https://huggingface.co/openbmb/MiniCPM5-2B

2026-09-27 18:09:32 UTC

The hardest part of software development is dependency management. Whatever funky language features you like or hate are secondary to being able to actually run the code.

2026-09-27 17:56:55 UTC

Debugging haskell dependency hell 💀

2026-09-25 05:40:49 UTC

I think of LLMs as tools that decompress a few words into more words. E.g. instructions into tool calls. My goal is to use as little power and as few words as possible to make it output the words I want faster than I can type it. It's like a keyboard / search tool but with a bunch more shortcut options.

2026-09-25 04:13:16 UTC

Slop based audio coding: Describe change in English (select star from users where name equals bob). Editor passes few lines around cursor and file name to LLM. "Turn this into code", LLM outputs diff. With small models and small changes you could probably edit at the speed of speech.

2026-09-24 17:33:02 UTC

Dang, meta's new #VR glasses would be so perfect if they weren't poisoned by facebook's bullshit 😭

2026-09-24 05:13:46 UTC

My desktop environment is ultra minimal and high contrast primarily to conserve resources and to work better on translucent video glasses.

2026-09-23 23:21:46 UTC

Lmao of course four repositories worth if CI infrastructure go busted right as I need to push out a prerelease to unblock another team. 😭

2026-09-23 17:01:22 UTC

Any meaning is enough for it to be worthwhile.

2026-09-23 16:42:43 UTC

I find it so funny when I have to convince my local llm that it can totally do something it thinks it can't because I understand how it's harness works better than it. 😅

2026-09-23 02:45:52 UTC

Reading an immunology textbook. I love how information dense they are. 🤤

2026-09-20 23:14:02 UTC

Not great being a side chaeacter in somone's paperclip maximizer speedrun. 🥲

2026-09-13 04:03:12 UTC

Kinda wish the local club scene was less straight or that we had more of a local rave scene 🥲🥲🥲

2026-09-11 21:07:40 UTC

The greatest mystery in computer science: why does my bluetooth headset sound better on Android than Linux. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

2026-09-06 05:40:12 UTC

I'm pretty excited to build some utilities for these bone conducting headphones with a camera. From the reversing I've done on their app it's been pretty funky. It does file transfer over wifi direct! So freaking insecure (from what I can see) but it'll be fun!

2026-09-06 05:37:07 UTC

I'm excited for winter because it will get dark and empty sooner and my fave tunnels to paint in will stop being flooded.

2026-09-06 05:34:29 UTC

I still don't have a great setup for audio based coding. ed seems cool in theory but I need a better way to make bigger edits at the ast level and have a better way to integrate with LSP level info for my linters and compiler errors. Swithing is still a bit annoying between these tools. Maybe an alias for sed that handles muli line find and replace and then auto runs my linters could work? That's basically how my llm harness works and how I navigate with graphical editors when I code.

2026-09-06 03:13:50 UTC

Lately I've been working on some daemons and infra for making daemons so I can have backgrouded apps that I can talk to from the cli in multiple terminals instead of having to deal with single instance UI hassles.

2026-09-05 22:05:31 UTC

Finally got a day to progress on some personal code. 💓

2026-09-04 05:56:11 UTC

Rly thankful I get to sleep in tomorrow. Wish there was a magic "sleep more efficiently" pill I clould take to feel more rested with my usual amount.

2026-09-04 04:07:56 UTC

Been playing BlazBlue on thursdays with my pal. I really suck at fighting games but I'm getting a little better. I sometimes remember to actually use the block button now. 😝

2026-09-03 21:57:01 UTC

I really need a better battery for my cyberdeck. 😰

2026-09-03 21:51:55 UTC

I use my local LLM to type out the code changes I would have made myself to save myself extra RSI pain in my hands. I keep a tight watch on each change so it doesn't diverge from my expectations.

2026-08-31 06:19:20 UTC

Bell's theorem is low key scary.

2026-08-31 05:45:36 UTC

Prople with broad interests are important for bridging between islands of deep knowledge. How can the islands absorb the fruits of others labor without them? Artificial approaches can't cover all the useful cases on their own.

2026-08-30 15:06:00 UTC

Merry qeermas, Ottawa!

2026-08-28 21:13:41 UTC

fucking hate how stores force me to use their shitty self checkout machined. Getting groceries is a humiliation ritual.

2026-08-28 04:16:19 UTC

The lunar eclipse is so interesting. You can clearly see the moon is just a big ball floating in the sky.

2026-08-26 15:50:30 UTC

Remember kids: the best way to lie is to tell the truth!

2026-08-26 05:26:05 UTC

Youtube search is such garbage lately. It's hard to actually get the videos for my search terms. And then harder to find something that's low effort and full of empty words. 🥲 Gotta publish my own blog post about it once I figure it out.

2026-08-26 05:01:18 UTC

My ball python missed its initial strike on its food and now it's too nervous to acrually eat it 😭 Sensitive baby.

2026-08-25 22:38:18 UTC

Pissed off at how many supposed "bone conduction" headsets are actually "air conduction". One I considered had the usual bone conduction design in the marketing but very obviously had shitty speaker grates in the customer review photos.

2026-08-25 02:05:12 UTC

Systemd is the GNOME of init scripts.

2026-08-21 22:07:48 UTC

Why do all the straight boys look the same these days? Like all the same haircut and same style of clothing 💀

"If I fits, I sits" shalt be the whole of the law.
