Inventor of earbuds: I invented these little headphones that don't have any wires
Lab assistant: nice
Inventor: they have this case to protect and charge them while not in use
Assistant: prudent!
Inventor: and when you drop the case it pops open and the earbuds fly really far in opposite directions
Assistant: why?!
Inventor: I mean, they go *really* far
Assistant: whyyyyyyyyyyyyy

The Fediverse keeps getting better and better.

2025-12-02 02:06:25 UTC

ActivityPub is the standard for social networking.
It's the glue that holds the Fediverse together.

2025-11-19 06:20:37 UTC

Every day the Fediverse gets better.

If you're on a social media platform that's not on the Fediverse yet, TELL THEM.

2025-10-10 06:30:47 UTC

Every day, there's something new to build on the Fediverse.

Sometimes you just need a Fediverse weekend

2025-04-29 17:08:52 UTC

There's a new Fediverse service for experimenting with geosocial activities. See here!

God grant me the confidence of Ben Stiller going into Apple TV+ headquarters to pitch a series about a corporation with a fanatical quasi-religious devotion to its legendary founder

Fediverse Threads There is important work happening at the W3C to get the SocialCG, the group that manages ActivityPub, on a good footing. I wrote about it on the Social Web Foundation blog.

@nprofile…vaa8 please don't shut mozilla.social down. The Fediverse needs Mozilla's voice and presence to keep us going in the right direction: open. We want to have you be a part of what happens next.

2024-11-28 10:12:07 UTC

I'm thankful for the Fediverse.

2024-11-28 10:12:07 UTC

It's that time of year! I'm publishing my ranked list of the best open-standard distributed social networks of 2024!
1. The Fediverse.
Thanks for reading this far! Looking forward to an important New Year.

2024-11-28 10:12:07 UTC

Are you federated?

2024-11-22 23:19:34 UTC

Nobody can turn off the Fediverse.

I liked this post from Cory Doctorow about ActivityPub and Bluesky.

The Fediverse is growing very fast in every direction.

One benefit of social network federation for publishers and creators is that you don't split your followers across umpteen different networks -- 10K on network A, 25K on network B, 15K on network C.

2024-08-26 16:30:02 UTC

It feels like it's going to be ActivityPub Autumn

2024-08-16 21:30:02 UTC

I'm trying to find the owners of these domains:
- fediverse.org
- socialweb.org
- activitypub.org
if you know who they are, please dm me!
i do not need generic advice on contacting the owner of a domain, however. Thank you!

I want to talk about uptake of Fediverse sharing on Threads so far. I'm gonna share some information from my personal network. I'm very involved in Fediverse Threads, so these are probably high.

2024-07-29 19:30:02 UTC

ActivityPub is coming to Threads.
If you are wondering about how to benefit from this huge change on the social web, I have some good news for you!
My book on ActivityPub for O'Reilly Media has just entered early release. You can view the first chapters here:

2024-07-27 16:30:02 UTC

The Fediverse IS brat

2024-07-21 03:30:02 UTC

Please make sure to ask your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours, and people you follow to turn on Fediverse sharing on Threads.
It only takes a few minutes, and it opens up their accounts to the entire world.
Person by person, we're building an open social web. We don't want people we care about to miss out.

2024-06-30 12:30:02 UTC

Hey Fediverse friends. 👋🏼
I am in the hospital right now. I was hit by a car while walking to a cafe Friday morning and I have 8 broken ribs. It hurts a lot.
My wife and brothers are taking great care of me. I'm very lucky. The hospital is great.
I should be out of the hospital this week and back online later in the week.

2024-06-26 05:30:03 UTC

Do something cool on the Fediverse.

2024-06-25 16:30:02 UTC
