@nprofile…t8tf Oof. That really sucks. And they often don't advertise the subscription model on their sale page so you can't even skip it when looking for products.

How did you pick your personal website domain? What was your creative process?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Walkie-talkie is such a silly name for an object. Imagine if we let that person name other things: sitty-watchy (a telly), brainie-rottie (internet), sittie-travelie (train), drinkie-chokie (boba tea but only when white people drink it for the first time), lickie-freezie (ice-cream)

Does anyone have any resources on what's the best way to hide spoilers in a weblog post? Specifically to keep it #accessible for screen reader users. I could think of a few ways to do it in HTML and CSS, but I would like to make sure it doesn't mess with screen reader software.

@nprofile…vqch Oh, first time reading about Best in Miniature, that sounds interesting. I'll put it on my list, thanks :ac_happiness:
I think watching shows like this is also great to learn about new interests. I used to watch cake making shows as a kid with my parents. My parents found out they enjoy making birthday cakes for our family :ac_happiness:

Just learnt there's a new show called Game of Wool (think Bake Off but for knitting), kind of trying to convince my partner to watch it together (neither of us knits, but my partner crochets)

@nprofile…cc9n must have been difficult to deal with ICANN over the last 300 years. Especially with countries being dissolved and new ones founded and what not

Nowadays when I do web search and I see a page was created in the last couple of years I get suspicious of LLM involvement.
Of course websites could lie about the page age, but I am just more likely to trust an older page.

It's kind of weird we still haven't seen "mavity" getting fixed

I've been talking to a friend about this recently and I think #BBC should start offering a subscription option.
Not only paying in full is a lot at once, but I am mostly watching BBC (whether it's on TV or iPlayer) for Doctor Who these days. I think many people would be much more likely to pay for the TV licence if it could be smaller amount monthly (whether all year long or while their favourite series are on).
As much as I hate the abundance of subscription options nowadays, I wouldn't mind paying £14.54 (174.50 divided by 12) a month. Obviously I would prefer something cheaper, but even that would be better than just paying full £174.50 in one go. I would probably end up watching other things, too, in the end. But currently BBC wants me to pay so much money when I am mostly interested in Doctor Who.

@nprofile…cc9n they do add support to new tech, though. Granted, emoji is probably low priority on everyone's list. However, it wouldn't be that surprising if they supported it.

@nprofile…cc9n I only found out yesterday when I tried to include "🖖". It just surprised me, because my bank loves using "💸" in notifications when money leaves my account. So I thought they were fully on board with emoji use.

Did you know bank transfer references don't support emoji?

Once again I'd like to question people who are obsessed with fedi numbers going up. Why?
Make the space actually welcoming (both in atmosphere and ease of use) and safe, so people want to come. But let people decide.
I really don't care how many more people signed up this month. I'm happy when people find this place good for them and want to stick around. I welcome everyone who wants to try fediverse. But why is it important if fediverse has more or fewer users than [some other network]?
If you need to focus on some statistics, pick user retention. There's a reason why many users come and go. If people don't find it safe here, if they feel under attack, if they feel like this is a white techbro thing, they won't use fediverse. And that's what everyone should focus on. Make this a place where people feel safe. A place where people want to hang around.
Focus on safety features, usability, offer things people can't find on other networks. Not numbers. Users are people, not just statistics. Make this a place that's more attractive than competing platforms.

@nprofile…x759 honestly, I'm still curious what's "highly-effective age assurance". Does this mean the idea of IDs for porn is coming back?
This doesn't affect me, I'm not running a porn site (or fedi server at all). I just can't see what could admins do that could be considered "highly effective".

What the heck does that mean? This is ridiculous.
