Today I’m sporting this cute Djangonaut Space rocket, lovingly crocheted by @nprofile…fnfj and gifted two years ago.
A little safety pin turned it into a wearable. 💚 🚀

An interesting conflict between a Dutch media creator Roel Maalderink (together with Bits of Freedom) and Meta regarding Meta glasses.
The guy made a video wearing the glasses outside the Meta office in Amsterdam.
The video showed several Meta employees reacting negatively to the glasses, and even asking multiple times if he was filming (showing that even they couldn’t see if the glasses are active.)
Instagram took the video offline, which is the first time this creator had a takedown of one of his videos.
I hope this goes viral beyond The Netherlands.

@nprofile…px8z Regarding the delegation of work, I saw a great comparison that doesn't require technical knowledge:
It's like ordering a beautiful meal from a restaurant and, when delivered, claiming that you cooked it yourself.

@nprofile…t8tf I don't know why I'm surprised that there was a time when getting smaller sizes was a challenge.
I have an older black pair with pink lining (they might also have been available in full pink) that I don't wear anymore, but it was so cool to have my own proper set of work boots.

Re: flat web design.
Buttons that don’t look like buttons.
I blew someone’s mind today. She’s about my age, competent at her job, but not much into technology.
She complained that she always needs to scroll past the weeks in her web-based calendar.
I pressed the current date shown in the top-left corner above her appointments, which pulled up a big date overview by month.
She was so excited, asked me how I did that.
Mind you, the date was shown as simple black letters on a white background, with only a black, downwards-pointing chevron a bit to the right. It hardly suggested interactivity, especially to those not knowledgeable about web design.
I often think that flat design was a mistake, and today’s situation was a good example of bad user experience (UX) stemming from non-intuitive controls.

I’m happy to see this Django feature finished:
We replaced the blank choice label of a select form control with words, rather than only dashes.
Why?
Not every screen reader pronounces dashes, meaning that some configurations could not read the original blank choice text.
Plus, it’s always great to have more options to customize your forms!
I ran out of spoons after coding the proof of concept, but the great thing about OSS is that there is a team that can pick up where you left off. 🚀

@nprofile…dcm7 Might I add to this, with regards to catering to female consumers:
Make hardware smaller.
To generalize:
Hardware and furniture are often designed with male proportions in mind, resulting in designs that are too large for women. (Think large hands, broad shoulders, tall backs).
(Also, let's hope no one tells 'em about the "pink tax" once they do decide that women are a legitimate customer base.)

@nprofile…4tpe When you look at modern software, what those “yes or maybe later” choices imply is that they do not care about your consent, which in turn implies they do not respect their users' autonomy.
Don’t get me wrong, this comes to no surprise, but it is technically abusive behavior and they (e.g., Microsoft) get away with it.

Now as a blog post:
"Blocking domains on Mastodon without visiting a profile"
https://marijkeluttekes.dev/blog/articles/2025/04/30/blocking-domains-on-mastodon-without-visiting-a-profile/
#FediTips

2025-04-30 17:43:34 UTC

So you want to block threads.com and threads.net, but Mastodon UI is making it difficult?
Tip! Use Mastodon's Import function:
1. Create a file, any filename will do as long as it ends with `.csv`. For example: `blocked_domains.csv`.
2. Put these two lines in the file (without the backticks):
```
threads.com
threads.net
```
3. Save the file.
4. Go to the Mastodon import settings (`/settings/imports`).
5. In the form on this page, select import type "Domain blocking list".
6. In the form, select your newly created CSV file as the Data file.
7. In the form, select "Merge " instead of "Overwrite" (this should be the default value) as the import strategy.
8. Upload your file.
9. Profit!
