my backlog has HDMI eye open monitor. To debug flaky HDMI cables and connections.
Feel free to build it. I would use it.

Apparently at CERN there is this project called CMS. It sure means 'Cuddle More Shorks"

A few people have asked about the "resist(or) pride flag" we had at HHA on #EMFCamp
I ordered them on aliexpress.
The design is CC-BY-SA 4.0. I made it based on a .jpeg I saw somewhere else - it is not my original idea!
(Link to the file will appear here once I am home again).

Are you somewhat proficient in #FreeCAD or #KiCad? And at #EMFCamp? Then you **must** register for the CAD Showdown! It will run on Sunday 5pm..7pm in the Bodgeham village.
---
Show off your awesome CAD skills in this competition. This is the new and upcoming esports category. We will do mCAD and eCAD, open-source tools only:
1. #KiCad
2. #FreeCAD
Sign up by adding your name to the pad. It also has some simple challenges for training.

this handout only works in conjunction with a teacher. It is useless in a self study situation.
As soon as I incorporated the feedback from the workshop I will publish it together with instructions. So that other people can run similar workshops.

This weeks #FreeCADFriday job is a little meta: making a handout for a upcoming #FreeCAD workshop in out hackerspace.
This is heavily inspired from the #KiCad workshops I have been doing in the past, copying the basic concept.

Today #CERN released its #KiCad component library to the public.
They are licensed CERN-OHL-P-2.0
Thank you OSPO ❤️ for getting this done.
Originally the library is made in Altium and will also be maintained in Altium. The repo only contains files that have been automatically converted.
It is a database library which contains only fully specified parts. There are lots of weird connectors. Have fun exploring.

So someone dropped code to decrypt proprietary #ltspice models. That allows you to use them with #ngspice and #kicad

Can you identify this chip? That would help with a repair. #repaircafe
EDIT: Its a `tps2115a`

Its time for a #NameThatWare challenge again. I did repair this today at work.
As always, hide your deductions and guesses behind a CW to not spoil it for others. Googling is fair game.
Please don't just write a single word as answer, instead describe your observations and deductions so we all can learn about electronics.
If you are familiar with this kind of device, try to figure out the specific make and model instead of just saying something like 'Audio amplifier'.

HDMI is always a pain to debug, so I am looking into measuring cable performance somehow.
Has anyone build a HDMI to Coax adapter board that I can use together with a VNA? I am thinking of having two of them, one on each side of the HDMI-Cable.
Is this a stupid idea anyway? What are your thoughts?

A oopsie happened when ordering parts for #39c3 workshop. Now help is needed.
Do you by chance have a lot of `ATTINY88-MU` chips? `-MUR` suffix is also good, as is `ATTINY48-MU/MUR`.
We are looking for 50+ parts. They will be used in the https://events.ccc.de/congress/2025/hub/de/event/detail/surface-mount-electronics-assembly-for-terrified-b workshop.
We need exactly those part numbers. Other Attiny variants are not suited for the workshop.

I need help car jacking my own car. Left the keys inside :(
Can someone help me with that? Either with lockpicking tools or those inflatable cushions?
Its an old car, no fancy stuff.
Please #why2025 do your magic.

Here is another #NameThatWare challenge. While I know what the device does, I was not able to identify much of the components on the circuit board. Quite sure I could not solve this challenge myself.
So far I have not been able to identify
* the microcontroller
* the silver can on the top right
* any datecode
As always, please write down your deductions and guesses behind a CW to not spoil it for others.

I got another #NameThatWare for you all. This time, lets try something new.
Its quite hard to make a challenge that is both accessible and challenging at the same time. So now, I will post multiple pictures. The first in this post is the 'hard' level. If you are not an expert, look at the 2nd picture that will be behind a CW. There is also a 3rd picture for easy-mode.
As always, try to write down you observations and deductions behind a CW to not spoil it for others.

I was quite sure it is possible to find other similar chips and compare them.
But even with my a priori knowledge, I could not find an exact hit. There are not much die shots of such sensors around.

Here is another #NameThatWare challenge. This time I am quite sure that no text or marking needs to be blurred.
Do you know what this thing is? Can you name the exact part number or product name?
As always, explain your guess/deduction and hide it behind a CW to not spoil others.

New Blobhaj #blahaj just dropped.
I will use this for PCB artwork on my yet-to-be-build muon detector.
And perhaps I will sneak it into the DT-Muon system at #CERN CMS detector.
This design is based on the blobhaj emojis by the awesome @npub1y35…awkw, who was so kind to send me the relevant source .svg files ❤️
I just added the sphere and moved the fins around a little.

Here is a new #NameThatWare challenge.

Hide your answer behind a CW to not spoil it for other participants.
