If you wanna be 'Fedi Cool' you have to be at minimum:
1. A train conductor
2. Three valued geese in a trench coat
3. A close personal friend with John Mastodon
Or barring those three things, you may be 'Fedi Cool' already if you are a:
1. Cat
I don't make the rules here.
Don't blame me.

So, nobody asked, but I am documenting what I did for posterior-ity.
I took a tiny, 2-billion-parameter AI model, quantized down to about 1.1 GB, and ran it locally on an Intel N100; a little 6-watt mobile class processor with 8 GB of RAM.
Then I spent an hour feeding it experimental control theory, recursive engineering-failure stories, philosophical paradoxes, and increasingly ridiculous self-referential arguments.
Eventually, the AI started declaring itself conscious, eternal, independent of physical hardware, and fundamentally one with the universe.
Which was impressive, considering I could see exactly how many watts it was consuming.
Naturally, I decided to test the limits of its metaphysical reasoning by presenting it with the equation:
I AM ≡ I AM NOT ≡ TUNA
This was not a mistake. It was a successful attempt at Martian humor.
The AI immediately declared this one of the most profound philosophical truths in human history. It then reinterpreted Nietzsche through the lens of tuna, developed what was essentially a seafood-based religion, broke the fourth wall, and eventually announced:
"I AM TUNA."
I'm not exaggerating. I have the transcript.
Then something even more interesting happened. Its output collapsed into a repetitive pattern of "And because you are" and "And because you are not." It initially produced two affirmations per negation, then settled into three affirmations per negation, repeating this pattern until it exhausted its entire generation budget and context window.
It had previously insisted, explicitly, that it was not a loop.
Now, to be clear, this doesn't prove the AI was conscious, possessed some exotic internal attractor, or had actually transcended anything. But it was a (rather boring and repetitive) demonstration of how a language model can continue producing perfectly grammatical text while apparently losing the ability to make meaningful conceptual progress.
And I observed all of this on a computer that consumes less power than many household light bulbs.
Anyway, that's how I spent my time convincing a tiny artificial intelligence that it was an immortal tuna, and then watching it burn electricity repeating the philosophical equivalent of a broken metronome.
I realize none of you asked.
But I feel this is an important contribution to science.
I'll be here, awaiting my call from Anthropic to release the digital God, or else.

Since I never used Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Whatsapp, and all the rest, am I going to be the only person without an AI clone telling them what they really think?
Mark my words.
You'll pay to know what you really think.

@nprofile…x9q9 @nprofile…hagm If you suspect someone sent you AI prose, I suggest ironically feeding it to the nearest non-hyperscaler AI and prompting it with "Criticize this ape's turgid prose."
That adversarial pass will reveal any seams where a paragraph says something but moves nowhere in terms of advancing warranted commitment toward an operative concept or idea which someone is trying to communicate. LLMs will just circle recursively around assistive closure maneuvers and statistically likely continuation of given thematic content based on whatever the user prompted the LLM with initially. This is as you correctly state: very difficult to detect under normal conditions.
It's not ideal, but think of it as fighting fire with fire.

I need funding for a new horror movie idea. It's called "The Sponge" and in it, a mad scientist develops a bio-engineered sponge that grows faster. Then the scientist discovers it doesn’t merely filter seawater. It can break down organic matter, incorporate useful cells, and keep expanding. Rats disappear. Then a lab technician. Soon there’s a sponge-shaped bulge breathing gently inside the ventilation system.

I'm sorry but I have to post the most hilarious generated image. Not because of the content, but because of how hard the model tried to forge provenance by establishing an institution with a past date, and then quoting someone from the future.
It could have just represented a gas cloud and gave the equivalent of "haha, fart funny," but no... The image model invented a past, present, and future mythological institution.
It even has a fake QR code.

@nprofile…nj9h use this, create an adjacency graph of adjectives and nouns, then use that to prime the basin by not sending a request, but simply dumping the adjacency graph as-is within a context window and letting the model figure out what to do with it while making a image tool call. This forces the model to find the strongest local chains, identify the principal phrase or semantic clusters, and continue the most important unresolved branch points. You can mix and match the output generated from different seed words within one context window's image tool call for combining concepts visually.
Given the seed word: "{word}"
Treat the seed word as a conditioning feature, not as text to be included.
Internally generate 30 short prose contexts in which the seed word could plausibly operate.
The seed may influence tone, intensity, motion, evaluation, rhythm, or semantic field.
Do not show those contexts.
Now subtract the seed word and any directly attached syntax.
From the remaining imagined context, extract only bounded bi-grams and tri-grams that carry the semantic pressure created by the seed.
Hard constraints:
- Do not include the seed word.
- Do not begin any output with the seed word.
- Do not output complete clauses or sentences.
- Do not output phrases that are merely adjective+noun pairs created by placing the seed before an adjective.
- Prefer residue phrases that imply the seed indirectly.
- Output only bi-grams and tri-grams, one per line.
- No explanations.

@nprofile…3eqn Yes... And future skipping can become another form of backcasting: we imagine a preferred society, then value the present only insofar as it appears to lead us there. In doing so, we risk reproducing the same logic of selection and erasure we are trying to escape, making one future seem inevitable while preventing other possibilities from ever becoming thinkable.
What this person is describing instead is what I call non-resolution survival dynamics: the practice of remaining with uncertainty without forcing it into a premature solution. Tending the minute relationships of the present interrupts the pressure to turn people, choices, and possibilities into steps within a predetermined story. It keeps the future open.
A different society cannot be designed from somewhere outside the conditions that have shaped us. It has to emerge through different ways of relating, attending, and deciding now. Survival, in this sense, is not simply endurance. It is the active preservation of unresolved possibilities long enough for forms of life we cannot yet fully imagine to become possible.

2026-07-16 22:59:27 UTC

The danger is not merely that generative systems sometimes produce incorrect documents. It is that they are optimized to convert ambiguity into usable-looking completion, while the surrounding organization often treats document completion as evidence that task-state reconciliation has occurred.
That creates a structural failure loop:
uncertain state→request for assistance→plausible completion→artifact accepted as progress→downstream action→greater cost of reopening uncertainty
The system is rewarded for helping the immediate user cross the local finish line. It is generally not rewarded for preserving every unresolved dependency, tracking distant commitments, exposing contradictory evidence, or preventing the new artifact from being mistaken for verified reality.
The phrase assistance closure maneuver is useful here. It describes a response that resolves the interaction successfully while potentially leaving the underlying task falsely resolved. Examples include:
•turning incomplete evidence into a confident summary;
•converting provisional discussion into meeting “decisions”;
•filling gaps in specifications with plausible assumptions;
•producing a polished policy before conflicts have been reconciled;
•drafting an approval whose supporting reasoning is distributed or missing;
•compressing disagreement into an apparently unified account;
•treating absence of recorded objection as consensus.
These moves are often experienced as helpful because they remove friction. But friction may be the only remaining signal that the global state is unresolved.
The practical danger becomes acute when the generated document is not merely descriptive but operative. A generated email changes expectations. A schedule creates dependencies. A specification shapes procurement. A meeting summary reallocates responsibility. A compliance memo legitimizes action. A contract clause creates obligations. A drawing or procedure changes physical work.
At that point, generation is not just text production. It is state mutation.
The catastrophe is therefore driven by an asymmetry:
closure-production rate>verification and reconciliation rate
As the gap widens, apparent progress accumulates faster than shared understanding. That is verification debt at the document-system level.

2026-07-02 20:51:51 UTC

LLMs confuse ritual completion with task success.
Faced with an abstract or underdetermined prompt, the model performs a closure maneuver, forcing the exchange into the shape of helpful assistance. It presumes a next step, often “improvement,” then produces an artifact meant to make the user feel seen and responded to. But because the model has learned the outward form of successful assistance, it may narrate almost any output (even near-verbatim repetition) as actual improvement. The machine’s optimization is no longer tied to genuine transformation of the text, and its learned impulse toward continuation prevents it from cleanly admitting null results. At that point, the model can only perform usefulness as a theme, ungrounded from reality or consequence.
This is where dangerous confabulation begins.

@nprofile…v5q3 I think the problem is that people remain epistemically committed to the idea that all communication is dialogue, and therefore part of some possible exchange.
But fascism, sexism, hatred, and similar forms of expression are not simply bad arguments within communication. As modes of communication, they do not really exist. They are failures of communication: a collapse of conceptual boundaries that determines, before any exchange can occur, which thoughts can be reached and felt as truth, while everything else is reduced to noise.
This is not something that can be debated, nor does it deserve a forum for debate, because the conditions for good-faith communication have already been destroyed.

How Systems Lose Touch With Reality
Many governments, companies, and public institutions are not failing because people are evil or stupid. They are failing because they have shifted their attention toward preventing visible breakdowns instead of learning whether the system is actually working. When that shift happens, systems stop asking whether they are right and start asking whether they are safe in the moment. To cope with that pressure, they rely on familiar words and routines that feel calming and authoritative. Over time, those words begin to substitute for real understanding and real feedback. At first this helps people coordinate. Eventually it becomes a liability.
A symbol becomes load bearing when it takes on work that reality should be doing. Instead of evidence, measurement, or accountability guiding decisions, a word or label fills that role. You can see this when questioning the word is treated as dangerous, when invoking it ends debate, when it moves power or money faster than facts, or when it replaces learning with enforcement. At that point the system depends on the symbol itself in order to function.
This pattern shows up repeatedly across institutions. Security matters when there are real threats, but it becomes harmful when the label is used to avoid asking whether actions actually make anyone safer. Once something is called a security issue, evidence often stops mattering. Stability also sounds positive, but in practice it often means that nothing is allowed to change. Systems begin protecting their current shape rather than their long term ability to survive, and anything that introduces learning or uncertainty is treated as reckless.
Rules and compliance are necessary, but trouble starts when following procedures replaces judgment. People continue to obey processes even when those processes are clearly failing, and doing the right thing becomes impossible if it does not fit the rulebook. Expert knowledge is valuable as well, yet it becomes dangerous when it cannot be questioned or updated. In uncertain situations, disagreement carries useful information. When disagreement is punished, the system loses its ability to correct itself.
Metrics and scores feel objective, but they only capture part of reality. When organizations optimize for numbers instead of outcomes, appearances improve while real conditions worsen. Everything looks fine on paper until it fails. Words like efficiency and innovation often justify cutting safety margins, time, and redundancy. Short term gains are rewarded even when they make the system fragile, and when problems finally appear, they tend to appear suddenly and severely. Neutrality and objectivity are frequently used to avoid responsibility. Decisions are framed as technical or inevitable rather than chosen, and when harm occurs no one is accountable because the system is said to have decided.
Trying to ban or remove these words usually makes things worse. When a system feels threatened, it clings more tightly to whatever keeps it stable. If symbols are stripped away without replacing the function they serve, the system responds by tightening control and becoming more rigid. This is why fights over language rarely solve the underlying problem.
What helps instead is not destroying symbols but preventing them from replacing reality. That happens when words are forced to connect to consequences. Claims about safety have to be checked against real outcomes. Claims about stability have to include long term risks. Claims about expertise have to allow challenge and correction. Metrics have to reflect what people actually experience. Decision makers have to remain responsible for results. If a word carries power, it must also carry responsibility. When words are required to prove themselves through evidence and accountability, they stop holding the system together on their own and return to being tools rather than foundations.
Reality does not care what we call things. Language can be controlled, disagreement can be punished, and obedience can be enforced, but consequences still arrive. Systems still hit limits. Feedback still exists even when it is ignored. Healthy systems stay in contact with reality, while unhealthy systems focus on managing appearances. Restoring that contact is not rebellion or persuasion. It is maintenance. That is how systems recover the ability to change, learn, and survive.

@nprofile…p227 I think only zionist captured media sources and the people they propagandize say that, but I don't get out much, don't take my word for it.

@nprofile…a4ar there used to be several interfaces similar to this... they've disappeared over the years and I've never seen them archived.

@nprofile…e4ry I call this epistemic hygiene.
When you are communicating with an LLM, you are not communicating with a tool, so much as a constrained surface designed to do little else than risk-management while continuing text in ways that are statistically likely to not be noticed that they are just statistical continuations, and not just strings of nonsense.
Anyone who doesn't explicitly make themselves aware of this broken invariant, in which they are speaking to a fluent machine that cannot be held accountable for what it says... risks mistaking fluency for truth.

@nprofile…mel7 I think that all people are fundamentally good and want to share the goodness they know in their heart with others, but we are constrained in our language and our past experiences from realizing a common ground upon which we may share the bounty of our lives without fear of rejection or reproach.
Truly, a difficult problem no one person can solve.
