Another problem that isn’t really as big of a deal, but it’s kind of a workflow problem
I don’t know if these platforms are solving for value for value splits when posting via the API safer genetic workflows. I’m pretty sure there is no way for me to set up a v4v track split via PodHome’s API and I’m relatively sure that’s true for Fountain as well.
As Podcasts utilize automation more and more that will kind of be an inconvenience that may slightly impact adoption

Oh the problem I am having with v4v music isn’t really a v4v music issue. It’s a platform issue. Both PodHome and Fountain have been failing more and more often to find the specific artists and track. Which has resulted in a few episodes where I haven’t been able to give proper attribution.
And that’s just a non-starter for me.
What’s odd is even well known well established been around for a while. Tracks were giving me issues.
It was definitely more common with newer songs though. But it could even be songs that were on the front page and on the leaderboard both still weren’tfinding.

A pup coyote got lost on the farm and separated from his pack early in the morning.
And from the other side of the farm, I can see (40x zoom) Mom keeping watch.
So far the pup has not made it back to mom, and she just keeps standing there watching for him.

This is the heart of the chicken coop automation (work in progress pic).
The goal is to go on a road trip for a week or two, and nothing dies.
This box manages three separate networks, including a backup LTE connection. It runs Home Assistant and Frigate DVR.
All the sensors and feeding water door automations either run over Z-wave or Wi-Fi.
So far rock solid, I’ll get into the details in LINUX Unplugged this week.

We have the chickens moved out into their own run for just over two weeks now. Fully automated with Home Assistant, and monitored with Frigate DVR. It’s a great setup.
What’s really mind blowing is just how fast they grow.

Actually, this is the problem.
You can do it, but there’s several huge disadvantages right now and I don’t think most people realize it.
Important Metadata podcasters need to credit supports is missing, just not even captured. And importantly to me if you’re self hosting a node, it gets even worse and anyone in the split doesn’t get any metadata.
When you receive the boost, you have no idea the total amount, and the most situations you won’t even know who sent it. It depends on all of the systems between.
It currently only works in very limited situations.
I’ve been testing this the hard way with some of my shows, and it was a mini disaster. Even though I’m a big proponent of using lnadress I had to roll back to using my node address/keysend for now because of all of the shortcomings with the current implementation.
Being able to properly credit people who support the show is a vital and important part of the value for value cycle - that is fundamentally broken right now with the current lnadress implementation.
If the current implementation sees wider adoption, it will destroy boost for podcast. I don’t say that lightly, you probably know how critical this is for my shows.
I think some key insights that I have here that maybe others are missing is that I run multiple shows at scale that are funded by boost. Multiple episodes of my shows are often in the fountain top charts each week. I’m not bragging. I’m just pointing out, it’s significant us.
We self-host our entire infrastructure.
And we build tooling around boost, so that way we can properly credit those who supports us.
And I’m a big supporter of other v4v podcast and as a listener, I boost a lot .
So I really been looking at this for all angles since about December.
If I could go on the podcasting 2.0 show every week and yell that we have a problem here I would! I think a lot of people are missing this because they’re not quite as deep into the technicals .
Technically lnadress is supported. But it’s a disaster in its current implementation and limitations.
It also reinforces centralization because just look at the practical implementation so far. Fountain is the easiest and most complete implementation. Even using Alby Hub the experience is sub-par. You will get the stats. And your SOL if you just want to run your own node and lnadress.

2025-09-11 17:31:58 UTC

- reply

Even if Alby had kept easy hosted wallets around, no major lightning wallet supports keysend.
And when you consider what’s easiest for podcasts to give out on air Lnadress offers a familiar email address format.
To be clear, I think it’s a real shame Keysend has not seen more love.
and… it’s a shame lnadress is not Bolt12 ready which also solves some of this.
But there is a hard reality we are up against. We are down to just Fountain and Alby compatible apps that can boost.
Ironically fountain could just sit back and do nothing and they pretty much consolidate and lock up the entire boost market because they probably already have about 80% of it. They’re pretty much the last easy lightning wallet for boosting in town.
And for the listener, it’s a lot less of an ask if they can use any lightning app that supports LNaddress to support the show. They could use strike or other apps directly even.

2025-09-11 16:15:59 UTC

- reply

I think some key context when reading this is:
1. There is already a active Podcasting 2.0 Boost community, that existed before Nostr and Zap. This is not something being invented today. This is about modernizing something that has been around since the early days of Lightning.
2. Keysend has not been widely adopted outside of Podcasting 2.0 (it's NOT a P2.0 tech, it's a lightning thing) and if we want to grow the base of users who can Boost/Zap a podcast, we have to move beyond Keysend.
3. lnaddress, and the email format for payments is an obvious UX improvement over node addresses, and opens podcast Boosts up to the entire Lightning ecosystem.

2025-09-11 16:12:01 UTC

- reply

Just to be clear, Oscar's spec here still uses the Podcasting 2.0 valueblock in the RSS feed.
The big change, is instead of the metadata coming via Keysend (at the lightning level) it would be delivered via Nostr, as the lnaddress spec does not support including all the metadata needed for a boost/Zap.

https://m.primal.net/Pdfy.mp4
Everything that has happened in the last two weeks can be explained in two words: cheap debt. I get deep into it this week.

Kinda feeling the same way. Though we may see a few state based reserves and more and more corporations doing the same during this time.

2025-02-27 17:14:56 UTC

Bitcoiners may feel rugged, but zoom out: the U.S. sees stablecoins as a route to dollar dominance, making everything else in crypto secondary.
Bitcoin doesn't need them; the stablecoin industrial complex does.
Bitcoin doesn't need anything from these people. But the stablecoin industrial complex (every major bank wants in) needs them badly. So, incentives were always going to align.
I don't think this means the Bitcoin Reserve idea is dead, but it does mean it's taking a back seat to what they think is the "bigger picture."

lol cheap sats. Though, cheap seats would be great too.

2025-02-26 23:51:42 UTC

Are you enjoying the cheap seats?
I think people have the wrong perspective on the recent dip. Considering a global trade war is heating up, the Memecoin bubble is collapsing, stagflation is setting in, and AI money is slowing down, Bitcoin is doing great.
But the bumpy ride is far from over, and I explain why in today's This Week in Bitcoin: https://www.thisweekinbitcoin.show/episodepage/48

Have you ever wondered why Bitcoin tends to sell off on news of higher inflation - when it's supposed to be the greatest inflation hedge ever? I get into that and a lot more this week, enjoy!

Fair point, I guess you could put it - the war went hot this week. Money is getting moved around, favors are being called on this week, "emergency videos" are being released, etc.

🎉 It's out a bit late so I could slip in the latest news, but a fresh This Week in Bitcoin is out, and I'd love it if you checked it out.
I recap why the Bitcoin community declared war on Ripple/XPR this week, why I think Trump is walking into an economic trap and much more!

Nearly $1.5tn in stock market value wiped out today on the news of DeepSeek being cheap. And people say Bitcoin is risky. 🤣

It does feel like some moats were just destroyed. And I could be wrong about this, but by my read the DeepSeek license (MIT) is more "free" than than Meta's Llama.

2025-01-27 17:23:36 UTC

The hits keep coming when the market is already down!
📰 JUST IN - Chinese DeepSeek AI launches multimodal "Janus-Pro-7B" model with image input and output.
"This new model beats OpenAI's DALL-E 3 and Stable Diffusion across GenEval and DPG-Bench benchmarks."
https://m.primal.net/ODAC.png
It's already posted, too: https://huggingface.co/deepseek-ai/Janus-Pro-7B
And it's also under the MIT License.
The market might be taking a beating on this news, but in the long term, this surely only increases competition, right? I'm already hearing talk of "AI's Sputnik Moment."
Chances are, in my humble opinion, that in the long term, this only serves to pump the AI bubble harder and faster.
What do you think?

2025-01-27 16:52:57 UTC

Hey look a surprise Bitcoin sale!
It's a blood bath out there today.
As I post this:
- NVIDIA shares dropping like a stone. Last down over 16%.
(NVIDIA has erased more than -$600 BILLION of market cap today.)
- Microsoft almost down 4%
- Google almost 3%
- Taiwan Semi Conductor down 14%
- Oracle down almost 13%
Not everyone is down tho...
- META up 1.46% and Apple up 2.25%
The only two in the bunch. Both of whom have focused on open source / local AI.
It's all in reaction to DeepSeek exposing how much waste has been going into US AI projects.
DeepSeek is ~96% CHEAPER than ChatGPT.
- Cost of OpenAI o1: $60.00 per 1M output tokens
- Cost of DeepSeek R1: $2.19 per 1M output tokens
And, again DeepSeek R1 is MIT Licensed.
Total panic at the tech companies and the wider market today. And they should be. I have been trying out DeepSeek R1, locally on my LAPTOP - and it works great. And fast. This is a win for open-source.

Ross Ulbricht's journey from Silk Road to a presidential pardon is one of the most legendary stories in Bitcoin's history. I'll dive into his arrest, the government's tactics, Ross thoughts from behind bars, and more.
This episode is a celebration of Ross release, don't miss it! https://www.thisweekinbitcoin.show/episodepage/43

2025-01-22 14:58:33 UTC

I am so thrilled about Ross's pardon. The promise was kept. If you don't have the background, or maybe you have a friend or SO who does not understand why everyone is so thrilled, this Reason video does a decent job as an introduction.
The story is even wilder than they have time to explore, but I think it's a good starting point.

I just wrapped up recording this week's Self-Hosted, which will be out Friday. That means I'm done for the week early!
My wife and I are taking our small car on a few-day road trip around the Olympic Peninsula to celebrate our upcoming anniversary.
I have lived in Washington my whole life and have never really explored this beautiful area of the state.
But it's been a while since I road-tripped in anything but the RV. It feels unsettling to leave all my stuff behind, and I don't know how you people do it! I gotta sleep in some strange bed? Weird! 😅 I can't bring my shitter with me? Crazy! But most of all, I won't have all my tech...
I'm just bringing my Pixel, and I don't plan to use it for anything besides maps.
I hope we have a lot of fun and get to recharge our batteries. If you're in the area and see a little black car zoom by, give us a 👋

🎉 This Week in Bitcoin is back after my holiday break and with a whopper. I packed the episode.
Fiscal dominance is taking stage, and I think Bitcoin will benefit, but I'm not nearly as bullish on 2025 as most, and I think I have the receipts to back it up:
Plus, I had a chance to review the Blockstream Jade and Block's BitKey wallets and discuss how they compare to each other and the ColdCard.
Don't miss the excellent links in the show notes either; cream of the crop: https://www.thisweekinbitcoin.show/episodepage/41

I don't think it inherently increases the risk of a dump (there is always that risk, free market, 24/7 traded, etc.). But I believe it significantly increases the probability of a pump, especially if other nations want to get in on creating their reserve.
Thoughts?

Why did the market tank when the Fed cut rates? And are normies finally realizing inflation is staying higher for longer?
I break it allll down, and why I'd rather not see an Executive Order to create a #Bitcoin Reserve in the US, but there is at least one upshot.
🎉 Enjoy, it's the last planned episode of the year! 🎅

I've been told by staffers it's because the system and process that produces the sRPMs needs an overhaul and that forced the issue.
