This 1,000 times. I used to think the “both sides are the same” people were crazy, but in the last 40 years, Democrats do everything you’ve listed (war profiteering, surveillance, corporate bailouts, fossil fuels, etc.) and on top of that doing absolutely NOTHING to help working people. Obamacare doesn’t cut it, it’s not enough.
So now I understand what the “both sides are the same” crowd means.

The United States likes to think it’s the best country in the world, but in reality it has been captured by a wealthy death cult intent on preserving the fossil fuel economy and stopping clean energy development simply for short term profits. Never mind the fact that even the rich can’t live on a dead planet.

Your correct that all of this is currently legal, but congress can change the legality at any point simply by passing a new law.
For years corporate money in elections was viewed as corruption, but the Powell memo set off a chain of events where now over 50 years later conservative Supreme Court justices passed Citizens United declaring political donations free speech.
It is not in the constitution at all. Corrupt SCOTUS justices just decided it should be so. Congress could change it tomorrow, but they’ve given up doing their job.

I think there’s a way without eliminating the use of money. The role of government is regulation. We can already see unfettered capitalism will kill us and the planet.
If government made all elections publicly funded and banned all donations over $1,000 contributions by individuals, outlawed PACs, and SuperPACs, and don’t allow outside spending then politicians would have to answer to their constituents.
But getting there from here is the hard part. We are so deep in the corruption, it’s hard to see a way out.

2026-10-18 12:47:54 UTC

Here’s the thing. It looks like a political cartoon, but it’s real. The slices of the pizza are exactly mathematically proportional to reality. We are being screwed every single day by rich oligarchs. And we know it. It’s time to fundamentally change the power structure in our economy. Nothing will change if we continue to allow money to be the ultimate goal and arbiter of power.

2026-09-04 14:24:37 UTC

I know this is a bit of a pipe dream, but just a few very simple policy changes could transform our entire society:
1. Tax the rich. A wealth tax that applies not just to income, but investments and capital gains as well.
2. No outside money in politics. Political donation limited to individual contributors and max donations capped.
2. Break up monopolies, enforce anti-trust, no vertical integration.
There's PLENTY of money in our society for everything we need; universal healthcare, free college education, ample public housing and food for everyone. The problem is that it's being sucked up and hoarded by the 1%.
Just look at how much Amazon makes in illegal grift alone! (image pull quote via @npub1fdr…lvhs)

The blatant corruption is just so unbelieveable. There needs to be a MASSIVE effort to explicitly make corruption illegal, require and enforce disclosure, and implement sever punishments for any wrongdoing.
Otherwise the oligarchs keep purchasing politicians and Supreme Court justices and we end up in the same place we are now where the will of the people and the rule of law means nothing and he with the most money wins.

*Trump literally being an authoritarian dictator*
Corporate Democrats: “Hmmm, vote for us in the mid-terms and we might think about a strongly-worded letter?”
*Three Democratic Socialists win a primary election without corporate money promising to actually help the working class*
Corporate Democrats: “Holy hell! Man the barricades! Let’s mobilize and fight this dangerous threat immediately!”

I love voting in polls, but I don’t like when it notifies me of the results. Wish there was a way to opt out of the results.

😡🤬 This does NOT represent #NorthCarolina! Administration officials purposefully put a confederate flag in the North Carolina section of the ‘America’s State Fair’ exhibit.
Governor Josh Stein immediately put out a statement denouncing it.

Centrist Democrats are always trying to preserve the status quo. The problem is at this point the status quo is literally #fascism. So you’re either fighting like hell or you’re on the wrong side. And I don’t see Democratic leadership fighting at all.

What is this, Republicans starting to make sense!?
Also where was this guy a year ago? Notice how we are only just now starting to hear this kind of talk because the midterms are approaching and they know they’ll get destroyed.
I’ll bet money this guy has been fully onboard the Trump train and only now trying to cover his ass.

If anyone wants to hit #Goose tonight at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh a FLOOD of cheap tickets just hit cash or trade. You should offer less on the face value ones as well, it's a buyer's market since the show is in a few hours.

Publicly subsidized stadiums are ALWAYS a scam. They only help the billionaires who can already afford to build a stadium.

It's behind a paywall, but if you're a LivePhish subscriber, the acoustic “Wolfman's Brother" featuring Billy Strings from Trey Anastasio's solo show on 6/17 in Grand Rapids, Michigan is absolutely beautiful.
