Some of you may remember that last week, fellow ordered something from Amazon, they came, he buzzed them in, nothing. He searched the building, talked to the admin, nothing. So he cancelled the cc billing. He then got lots of conflicting emails, so sorry, it would be delivered the next day, no, Friday. Friday the $ was put back on his cc, which no doubt made it to delivery folk, because no followup.
When the money went back on his card (he already wrote them off), he placed another order…1/n

This has an interesting history. It was made for a Burning Man, then, for some reason, it was loaned for exhibit in the Distillery District. Eventually, an art lover saw it, said he had to have it, bought it, and put it on his wharf in Muskoka (lots of cottages of rich people, for folk unfamiliar). But it drew too much attention. Folk would boat up to it to take selfies with it and this caused too much commotion...1/2

I worked with a Palestinian once and she said what she missed the most was hearing her language spoken. So I asked her to teach me how to say, "hi, how are you today," and when I showed up each morning, I would greet her in her language.
You don't have to know an entire language to help immigrants feel more at home and learning is a wonderful part of life.

@nprofile…2wxk I feel that they are an extension of Musk's spaghetti science. His company is too lazy or uninformed to understand proper modelling & risk management, so rockets blow up, <shrug>, we made progress.
I don't think these people know what a night sky is, they have no idea how this will affect the natural world, or care about depriving us of the ability to admire the night sky.
Even if they put these up at a synchronous orbit over their own sky, they will be affecting the planet

I was curious about when cocaine was criminalized in US and was not prepared for the answer. Black workers (among other's) were first given it by employers to make them work harder, for longer. It made Blacks super strong! But then, the tides turned. Blacks on cocaine were frenzied rapists! Police in south got larger calibre guns to shoot drug-crazed Black men.
Anyway, a LOT of racism involved in various legislations.

Bred to fight lions, this fellow was nothing less than a sweetie pie, who would patiently walk with me as I walked a large property in California. After my first experience in the area in which a cougar encounter was a feature, I took him and his pal out with me. They loved the walks, they didn't mind my dawdling to take photos, made me feel safer and dogs are always great company, so any excuse to be in their company... :)

I thought the tree was full of only Tennessee warblers as well as the orioles, but there were a few other species of warblers. Because they were mostly in the shadow of the branches, they weren't easy to see or photograph. This yellow warbler made a brief appearance, though was still in mostly in shadow.

A tale of the toads, as a distraction from, well, waves around. I took a walk and heard frogs singing a few days ago! This is a new local little wetland. We have been getting a lot of rain these past few years and even when we have heat warning heat, it gets really hot, then it rains, so nothing dries out. So this new little, easily accessible, wetland was new to me. And frogs singing! One was visible, in the water with vibration circles about him.

Looking at university costs, I’m glad I was educated when I was. I don’t think I would’ve been able to afford it today. Kids who live in university towns really have no idea how lucky they are. A kid I know, who lived at home, was given a car to commute, bragged about having put herself through school. She paid tuition and books with money she made at the summer job her mom got for her. That is only part if the cost.
Anyway. All kids deserve an education.

That is no comparison for hanta, for which there is no vax and no treatment other than manage the symptoms, and for which outcomes of having it are much more dire.

The countries of the world need to launch a lawsuit against the US deliberately blocking the strait just because of an orange insane man’s capriciousness. Food and gas prices are going to skyrocket. It’s ridiculous that gas prices go up before companies are actually hit by higher prices and that gas companies are making a killing, but farmers will be and are paying higher prices for gas and fertilizer and they HAVE to pass that along to survive. :(

It wouldn’t hurt everyone to do this. For goodness sake, change the default password and if you have to use a pet name, use the one from the person you dislike the most, as long as you’ve never mentioned them and their pet online. Do not use 123456.

An FYI to folk booking tickets online: if you notice price jumps between the first time you look and when you are ready to book, delete cache and empty cookies. The airline deleted their post a short time later because someone was being too helpful.
