oh sweet, I can get a whole cutter assembly on japan-agritrading for like $350.

2026-10-27 20:11:02 UTC

Gonna hafta probably machine some new sickle teepf for my Japanese reaper/binder. They all rusted to shit and barely cut. Got to get it working good for thatching my roof next summer.

2026-10-27 20:04:38 UTC

Gonna plant my 20 acres to rye this fall so I can just bale it and cut some for thatch.

2026-10-27 20:02:19 UTC

Ooof getting sick of doing greenhouse designs. Keep scrapping them. Think I'ma just clean and do laundry todey. I'll probably just end up building a straw bale house inside a basic greenhouse structure as cheaply as I can so I can be free.

2026-10-14 15:30:18 UTC

I've been having a really good Autistic hyperfocus session... haven't even opened fedi in a week. Been sleeping 5 hours a night and working on greenhouse foosion360 design 18+ hours a day. (except for saturday had to help pick beans). Greenhouse main composite file won't even open now since macbook only has 16GB memory. Gonna hafta fix my beefiest computer for reals now.

2026-10-14 15:20:31 UTC

Whelp you all didn't wish me enough luck, paying the nigger tax. Just got ebay message from seller asking me to get delivery confirmation. Knew it was a freight forwarding scam.

2026-10-06 04:56:07 UTC

Mailing $1200 in electronics on ebay sale to a freight forwarder..... wish me luck. The buyer has lots of good feedback at least. Really hope it isn't a scam. Redid the label to require signature so almost f'ed up.

F being productive. Downloading Aion 2

2026-10-06 00:08:51 UTC

Not being very productive... maybe I should make another pot of cofe.

2026-10-05 21:28:40 UTC

Ok, need to get back to Foosion drafting.

2026-10-05 21:27:46 UTC

Since I need a 3 wire cable for the sensors and a 2 wire cable for the valves, I may as well throw an RJ45 jack on the board and a set of terminals to send power to the valve. Then I can use CAT5 cable which I have tons of laying around.

2026-10-05 21:13:02 UTC

Hmmm maybe need some way to mount a magnet in the pipe and have a hall effect sensor on the outside of the pipe with a custom tiny circuit board. That would be a better long term solution. Think that would still be in the $10 range. Would require 3 wire conductors tho to the sensors.

2026-10-05 21:02:38 UTC

Also need to design some kinda flow switch for 2" and 4" pvc pipe. Want alerts if valves or pumps fail. Might just encase a tiny toggle switch in flexible food grade silicone and solder a flapper arm on it that is spring loaded. Just need a Tee fitting and plug to mount it on. They should fail off and be really cheap to make even if they only last a few years till I come up with a better design.

2026-10-05 20:52:45 UTC

Gonna need like 100 bulkhead fittings for connecting water lines and air lines to my aquaponics system and they need imbeded into the concrete slabs so think I'm gonna make my own better ones out of stainless. Good project to prep for greenhouse build while I wait for my turn with the big tractor after harvest to do site dirtwork.

2026-09-27 05:16:07 UTC

Computer, don't let me open Fusion360 till after my taxes are done now. K, thanks.

2026-09-27 05:14:37 UTC

Brick/Tile/Flower Pot/Bread/Greenhouse Heater Kiln/Oven/Furnace thingy rough design done. The dome will heat unevenly so might crack all to shit since it has 4 Kiln chambers to rotate thru. Will probably cost me like 10K to build it but think it is worth the risk to attempt. If it cracks all to hell can disassemble it and reuse the bricks or just use it only as a fireplace and never crawl inside.

2026-09-26 19:45:13 UTC

My design got too complex for this macbook... gonna have to finally fix my old pc with the failed nvme ssd.

2026-09-26 18:15:22 UTC

Trying to decide it it would be worth it to do a 277/480 service instead.... would save a lot in copper wire, but would need a stepdown transformer for 208/120v circuits and twice as many sub panels and two main panels. I'd also have to probably run more conduit. Pretty sure I'll just get a 200A 208v single phase service for the first phase of construction feeding what will be a future 3 phase sub panel and bump it up to an 800A 3 phase service in like 3+ years and re-feed the panel and add 4 more sub panels. Then I don't need to spend 12k on this first build on and I-Line panel and 800A disconnect at the pole. At least I don't need to buy main feeder wires since I bought 3 hunks of 350mcm wire in duct at an auction that were tails from people running wire to irrigation wells a couple years ago for this project.

2026-09-26 16:50:23 UTC

Instead of building a steel fireplace in the greenhouse I should build two small brick kilns and alternate between them firing bricks and thick floor tiles for building projects. Heat the greenhouse/shop and not have to pour a fuck ton of concrete slab floors. The bricks won't be exposed to frost so I think 12 hour nightly firings would be sufficient. I need like 50k 12" floor tiles and I bet I could make all of em over ~5 winters. Would just need to mold 500 tiles a week, making a clay extruder and cutting the tiles with a wire might be worthwhile. Would be better than spending 75k on concrete and would look way better too.

2026-09-26 16:08:07 UTC

I can build mezzanines in the greenhouse to add square footage too if I'm short space as well. Price per square foot is about the same but the air is already heated and will make nice shady areas out of the sun for comfy workspaces.

2026-09-26 16:02:52 UTC

Hopefully I can convince my dad to buy me an 800Amp 208V I-Line panel. As a treat.

2026-09-26 16:01:23 UTC

Whelp, after working on greenhouse design pretty much non stop for I don't even know how many days anymore, I think I need to build only a third to start. Even then I'll probably spend 300k to make it nice nice nice and be over budget 50k. 14,000 Sq ft with 3000 of it being basically a dirt floor open front building for saw mill, firewood and parking stuff out of the rain.

2026-09-24 02:08:15 UTC

My ebay'ed theodolite arrived and it works! Like almost brand new, looks like it was used maybe once. Tiny bit of paint scratched off of the tripod spikes. It doesn't have a laser function so I ordered a pistol laser pointer that I'm gonna 3D pront a mount for. I don't need vertical accuracy, just horizontal anyway. Hopefully the beam is tight enough on the laser I ordered. My anchor bolts need to be dead on. Pretty important since I'm pre-punching all the bolt holes for the structure and I want it to fall together. Think I'm gonna get a fishing scale so I put a consistent tension on the fiberglass tape measure to make my distances consistent.

2026-09-23 19:40:43 UTC

At least if funding falls thru my bro said I can build a greenhouse off the side of one of his shops, so I can at least get the lettuce money machine rolling.

2026-09-23 19:17:34 UTC

I think I'm gonna be retarded and split my greenhouse build into 2 stages instead of 6. 1/3 the cost is the hard lexan so gonna just do 10mil string reinforced soft plastic to hopefully get me by for 3-4 years till the veggie output can pay for lexan. If I get tennis ball size hail I'll have to spend 15K to put new soft plastic on, or patch it. Then I'll have my full foundation done and can build everything in it's permanent location like lettuce raft beds and walk in cooler. Should be able to float a 25K cost of living increase with 30K sq feet of indoor growing space. I think I could build it in 6 months if I work 10 hour days so that means it will be finished in 20 months. Things tend to take me 3x as long as I expect. Just waiting for soybeans and corn to be harvested and I'll start dirt work.

2026-09-22 08:43:23 UTC

Ooof been kicking ass on greenhouse CAD design. Doing a lot of overkill because don't want tornader to take it out, especially since I'm not going to insure the structure. At least we rarely get powerful naders, making sure it can handle an EF2 and then sizing things a bit bigger. Now suya.

Went out to eat with my dad, said I just ate a bunch of hot dogs because cheap meat, but still got guilted into going. Ended up eating carbs to be nice since Mexican restaurant and no just meat things. Told me get the tip... so spent more than my hot dogs cost... diet for day ruined and spent more money than wanted on food. F'in boomers man. Guess I just refuse from now on. He knows I don't have a real job so making me get the tip was kind of a rude move methinks since I didn't even want to go and he knows I'm trying to diet.

Friggen autodesk discontinued support for Eagle so gonna have to learn how to use Fusion360's circuit board design software now. Ooof.

2026-08-17 16:15:32 UTC

Also ordered a bottle capper and UV filter. Gonna bottle my own bubbly water since supposedly pellegrino uses graphine filters. Been saving my bottles so that will lower another expense.

2026-08-17 16:12:16 UTC

Don't think I'm ever getting that power supply I ordered last year for my synth modules so just ordered an arturia rack. Really need to get to prototyping some modules to sell so getting my setup going kinda needs to happen.

2026-08-17 16:10:47 UTC

So I guess there is a benefit to working in cow hell on weekends occasionally.. now have access to employee discount beef. Ordered an 80lb box with three beef ribeye chunks for like $7 a pound. This is from a prime beef plant too. If this works out and continues I can decrease my living expenses even more.

Just made final jeeb payment. Now just need to make $100 a day selling bred and veggies to be break even. Should be possible, just will need to sell like 6 loaves of bred and $60 of veggies to do that and pay for gas. Now that temps are cooler I'll get my mushroom tent going too and maybe harvest some honey. Hoping I make like 3x the break even amount, then I will just have to sell shit like 3 days a week to be moving forward again. Might try to just do it every day tho for the next couple months while veggie production going good. At least I can chill on my porch in the mornings while baking shit for 5 hours. Can wake up at 10 and bake till 3 and then sell from 4 till wheneves. Nice that is legal for me to just park on main street and hock my stuff. And have starlink on my jeeb so I can just watch youtube or work on CAD(minecraft) while selling stuffs.

2026-08-06 08:48:18 UTC

Ordered a vevor bread slicer... got to get kitchen organized and cleaned and fix the uwo slab style hole in the kitchen ceiling over the next couple days.

@nprofile…qd0z The state keeps trying to get me to be an inspector, but the pay is shit. Might look into that too, the hours might be not too bad. Having an engineering degree makes me an outlier of all the licensed electricians here.

2026-08-03 19:04:05 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…qd0z Hmmmmmmmmm you have a point. Might need an apprentice that doesn't mind weeding and re-potting trees when work is slow.

2026-08-03 19:02:28 UTC

But then again I could avoid PLC's and use relay logic that most electricians can fix. I've done that a few times back when I was playing around being an electrician years ago. Did an 8ft x 6ft hoffman box full of relays and motor starters for a farmer's grain handling and drying system like 12 years ago and have only had to go back once to brush the dust off of a proximity sensor. Shit can be solid if done right.

2026-08-03 18:59:33 UTC

Some electricians around here charge $120 an hour... makes it tempting. Especially since I can do PLC stuffs that most can't do. I want to be able to run to Thailand winters tho and people don't like it when you are gone and their shit breaks.

2026-08-03 18:57:58 UTC

Really should just be an electrician and simplify my life, but would rather have 10 businesses that each make 5-10k and won't kill me because wrong breaker turned off.

2026-08-03 18:55:17 UTC

Parents might be giving out some shit to us kids as they do their divorce. They don't want each other getting things and would rather chillens get the things. Might be getting a Bobcat and ditchwitch which would help immensely building my shop. My dad is weird about lending out his equipment so kinda unexpected.

@nprofile…qd0z Just shitty clay bricks. Gonna build a big greenhouse and build a small shop/house in it as well.

2026-07-24 20:34:51 UTC

Main foundations will be concrete blocks but want to finish them with preddy bricks. Also want to build all the raised beds and aquaponics beds out of brick as well. Will look classy as fuck. Will probably do unglazed red clay tiles as well for walking paths.

2026-07-24 20:32:01 UTC

I probably need at least 25k bricks by next summer. At 50¢ a brick I think would def be worth my time to spend a few months making bricks. Shit ton of perlite ordered. Gonna need to cut a shit ton of firewood too.

2026-07-24 19:54:23 UTC

Since I have a greenhouse half empty at friends place I could use that area to stack sun dried bricks until I get the land bought to fire them in a kiln. Could probably even build a shitty temporary kiln out of them to do an initial firing so I wouldn't have to spend a grand on bricks to build a real kiln. If I make my own bricks for building the kiln I can probably add some extra sand and perlite to them to make them more heat resistant. Don't want my arched kiln roof to turn into pudding and collapse.

2026-07-24 19:41:01 UTC

Think I need to order a couple pallets of bricks. Needs to build a brick kiln. Not doing anything important so should at least be slapping some mud into forms every day.
