Why would your husband suspect Extinction Rebellion of sabotaging railroads?
That seems kind of like the opposite of their goals?

Getting enough knowledge to allow informed decisions to most people is a good (probably even necessary) thing.
I think we are on the same page that the media are making a grave mistake when they conflate these different technologies and/or simply repeat what a marketing department or (AI-pusher or AI-doomer) think-tank published.

You and I are not laypeople, of course we read it differently than a gardener, physician, kindergarten teacher, or lawyer.
We both know that there's a difference between "AI" in a computer game or a simple chess computer, "AI" as in classical ML or expert systems and "AI" as in LLMs and generative AI.
But to someone who's not that versed in computer science all the same words, phrases and promises are used in media targeted at them as in years prior when Deep Blue, autonomous vehicles or ELIZA was the hot topic.

The first two paragraphs list „chatbots“ as one of the main usecases for AI and does not mention that there’s a difference between LLMs/generative AI and other technologies subsumed in that category.
So I’m not sure how an average person is helped to distinguish them by reading this.
Especially compared to the deluge of marketing (not just by marketing departments) hyping AI and deliberately obfuscating these very differences.

Can something as slow as Bismuth-209 even be called radio-*active* anymore? :D

Proponents are always comparing it to the industrial revolution, but maybe it's better compared to the likes of leaded gasoline, CFC aerosol cans, or asbestos anything.
Maybe some of us have learned to spot a pattern.

Are you not free if your neighbour doesn't let you have their game console?
Are you not free because you'll be thrown out of the restaurant when you pour soup on the other patrons?

I’m simultaneously slightly relieved that I don’t know which particular dude you mean and quite worried that there are so many candidates this apt description would fit.

from the perspective of commercial social media, all our servers probably look like they come from the backrooms ;)
But it would make a nice theme.
Hm, 🤔
Maybe themed servers could be a cool thing.
The Backrooms, Star Trek, an ant colony, …
