There's an EU citizen's #initiative against age verification and the necessity for a digital ID on the internet:
https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2026/000011_en
You can sign it if you are an EU citizen.
Cheers to the Finnish people who are already at almost 10% of the threshold required!

I tried the apps of two different German banks and never had such an issue. One has a crappy UI/UX, the other one is ok. The good thing is: You can authorize one bank to access the account/transfer of another - so you can see both accounts in your favorite app.
I've heard of problems in Iceland - if your company has an account with bank A and customers with accounts at bank B, debit withdrawal fails... because that's how the banks understand "competition". Is that true?

Is there anybody in #Iceland running a #flohmarkt ("flea market", #fediverse classified ads) server instance?
Please let me know.
Please boost for reach.
More info on flohmarkt and the code: https://codeberg.org/flohmarkt/flohmarkt

#DAVx5 @npub1n5s…rrhp
The app consumes 26% of my battery usage, although I set all syncs to 1440 minutes.
I allowed it background activities in my phones settings.
I do not make/change contact information or calendar entries a lot - and if I do, I do on my phone (triggering ad-hoc syncs); a sync check should offer "nothing to sync".
Does anyone know why that is and what I could do to minimize battery usage?

Was tun?!

https://digitalcourage.social/@padeluun/115037603857796028

Did someone prompt the AI yet to write a short story on how a US president gets killed in an open car in a parade by several gun shots, in a way that the murder can be attributed to one single person? Could be an interesting fictional read. 😉

Thank you for your quick reply!
I read somewhere that the Google app has Google servers as a (exclusively implemented) fallback, and that the fallback happens to be used quite often - whenever a device or a cell network provider has no RCS capability. I read that the situation has improved, e.g. all German providers (except 1&1) support RCS, and most not-so-old Android phones.
I don't want my data on Google servers and would prefer to see an error message instead of a fallback.

2025-03-02 11:00:35 UTC

Does anybody now about #RCS messages in #GrapheneOS?
RCS can be used instead of #SMS/MMS, but needs to be supported by network & devices on both ends (sender & receiver). There's a Google App (who would have guessed), but it would be better if it was supported by the built-in SMS app.
I couldn't find any option to enable it on #GOS & nothing relevant in their forums.
I know there's privacy issues to know about, but that's also true for SMS.
Any hints are appreciated. Boosts ok.

Out of curiosity: What does "weather permitting" mean?
Please keep us updated on/after election with results and consequences here in the Fediverse because we can't all watch Icelandic TV or understand the language well enough to follow interviews & speeches. Thanks!

"next to it"? According to the map scale, the vessels are 1 km apart. That's a long journey with the tender for the Danish... :-D
Well, at least they won't tangle up their anchor rodes that way.
And I do hope it's a safe place to anchor, with no pipelines or cables underneath... ;-)

Same here, but a lot more drastically. Maybe because we love to copy US American stuff, including the negative things.
But why 2016 in Iceland? What was going on (must have missed)?

That's an experience I already had 20 years ago when big companies used the first recruiting softwares. I didn't accept I had a double degree with one foreign part. And another company sent me a "no, thank you" a minute after I hit "submit". It had taken 4 hrs. to fill all fields so the entries were accepted by the system...
