@nprofile…3vcs I think that it's not actually about the money for them. It's the "principle" that nobody but them gets to decide what that money is used for. They reject fully the idea of social responsibility or owing something to the government that created the infrastructure that allowed them to make the money to start with. It's the "bootstraps" delusion.

This articulates the exact problem I've had with this tech since the beginning.
This tech is useful only if you're already an expert in whatever you're asking it about.
If you're not, you have no idea if the answer it gives you is grammatical gibberish.
To put that in businesspeak, you have zero quality assurance.

People will say you have no expectation of privacy in public, and that is true, but it's not what we're actually talking about.
For the VAST majority of human history, we had no expectation of being *recorded*.
It's only the last few decades that that was even possible.
Our laws need to catch up.

@nprofile…sd5a @nprofile…wesv This is really bothersome. I get Singh's point: keep the NDP in the House in order to soften the hard edges of the Liberals, and he's right about that, but there's no such thing as a "supermajority" in a Westminster parliament! A majority is a majority is a majority. It's insulting to Canadians try to scare us by importing a concept from American politics that doesn't apply to us.

A question for #Debian people (of which I am one, at lest currently), what's better, in your opinion?
- Net Install
- Live Install
- Complete Install
I don't think there's *one* answer, but I am interested in opinions.

@nprofile…dm4p @nprofile…a5pj This produced some output! Thank you. It's a whole list of addresses, IP and Mac, but I don't know which is which.
One of them is labelled "reachable," which perhaps implies an always-on wifi printer?

Okay, I'm trying to set up a Brother printer on Debian. The open drivers don't allow me to use the scanner, so I have to use Brother's, and the process involves manually entering the printer's IP address.
I cannot figure out how to find a printer's IP address. I have searched, and the instructions are pretty baffling.
Any suggestions? Help very much appreciated.

Hey, Debian people: my Software app just downloaded Gnome 47 and 48, but Deb 12/Bookworm ("Stable"), so I don't *think* I can actually upgrade to those new Gnome versions. Anybody know what's going on? Is this in anticipation of Deb 13/Trixie?

@nprofile…p6gr @nprofile…vzdp Interesting. So what are you running your Gnome on?

@nprofile…p6gr @nprofile…vzdp No, I just like Gnome the best--it's like someone took the design philosophy of OSX and executed it correctly--and my understanding is it's really optimized to work on Debian, so that's the combo I went with. Also, I do like the stability even if I get a little FOMO sometimes when it comes to using the newest Gnome version.

#Daredevil #BornAgain contains to be... fine. I skip some of the boring scenes. It's all very "gritty," which makes it feel like they're ashamed of their own genre. I mean, #SheHulk already made fun of the "this is really going to be a legal drama" premise, so what are we doing?
I mean, I'll watch it. But... meh.
(If you're enjoying it, please keep doing so with my full moral support. I never want anyone to have *less* harmless fun.)

@nprofile…wuyc I mean, *he* won't care, but he'll get an earful from anyone who does care about California, and that includes the multi-billion-dollar industry to which he owes his ill-gotten fame.

@nprofile…wuyc I never liked Justin Trudeau. He has Palestinian blood on his hands. He doesn't remember how many times he did blackface. He didn't ask permission to get an Indigenous artist's work tattooed on his body.
But he's been pretty damn effective for the last couple of months, and the next person MUST keep it up. Or else we're fucked. Annexation is unlikely, but the US can *destroy* us economically, regardless.
We need to fight, so we need a fighter.

I'm seeing some posts about issues with a new Linux kernel, so I'd like to say I'm really grateful for the bleeding-edge people who are working out all those kinks so that my cowardly Debian computer can be safe.
Godspeed you all. :)

I am not linking to it because JFC it's gross, but #NeilGaiman is proving to be even more disgusting than we thought. (You do a web search. New stuff is out there.)
I still have a stack of his books on my shelf. I can barely look at them. I think I need to get rid of them.
