I mostly work in C++ and zombies, though I occasionally dabble in lisp and other eldritch horrors.

Looking for a "Senior Software Engineer"-like position, based in Seattle, WA, remote preferred.
20+ years in role, the majority is in C/C++, but I've done server and Android-hosted Java, Python, Bash Perl, etc.
Outside of work I've led the open source game development project Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead since 2012, I grew it from a single contributor (me) to 50+ active contributors, not including ancillary teams like translation and art production.

Linuxy question. I'm running a Nvidia RTX 3000 on a laptop with Nouveau, and hoping to use a mini DisplayPort to drive several displays with a MST. Does this Just Work or are there things I need to be aware of, particularly when buying a MST?
Sources indicate it's supported in general, but you know...

chatting with my mom over lunch. "Umm your phones going kinda crazy do you need to get that?"
"It's ok I'm just getting Christined again. I can check it later."
"You got what?"
"Christined, it's like being knighted on the fediverse."
(This explains nothing, obviously. Revenge for past transgressions.)

I'm a fan of Catch2 https://github.com/catchorg/Catch2 but if you want unit tests with a bunch of extras like mocking support it's not that.

Lovely milestone in DDA. We lost a little piece of infrastructure a while ago (A little custom webpage that restyles game data files to keep them readable. The web server running it became unavailable.) and contributors have been asking for a replacement for a while.
The replacement turned up today, we wrote it 3 years ago and it got memory holed because the other version was still working at the time and it's existence wasn't documented.

Perversely, I was making this kind of media myself, without realizing that it applied to me very directly, but I couldn't connect the dots making/playing my own game, that took other media, centrally for me [@Impossible_PhD](https://hachyderm.io/@Impossible_PhD ) 's https://stainedglasswoman.substack.com/ but I very much think, and hope, that putting that kind of work out there can contribute to other people making this life-changing realization about themselves. 4/4

I don't think it's that overreaching to call games (or other media) that dwell on these themes as "thing that makes you trans", but of course what I REALLY mean is "things that help you realize you're trans". For me, I was very definitely NOT trans, until I learned enough about dysphoria to realize I was living with CRITICALLY HIGH levels of it and that yea, it was predominately gender-related. 3/4

Looking back at DDA it has MANY themes of dysphoria, depersionalization and alienation, and it even addresses some of that with transformative experiences, though strangely enough gender is just something you get to set whenever you like, whenever you like, not requiring external input.... hrm that's another whole thing innit. 2/4

To elaborate on what I mean by "it's not NOT involved".
My first reaction on seeing this meme (originally about a/the Silksong developer coming out) was "Author's thinly veiled gender dysphoria is my favorite genre", but then I was like, "oops that was supposed to be a joke, but it's the truth". 1/4

The latest DDA stable is here!
https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/releases/tag/0.I
Headlining features are dormant zombies that you can avoid more easily or that will ambush you when you least expect it, improvements to verticality such as climbing into treetops, and a more in depth item fault system so item failure isn't restricted to a works/broken binary.
I had light involvement in the release process, I want to say because I wanted to spread responsibility around, but no it's burnout.

what happens when you're insufferable but you have an audience that likes suffering?

I can never decide to be proud or depressed that I wrote a faction into my game lore SIX YEARS AGO that revolves around a scientific computing AI that has some very specific predictive capabilities based on a scifi macguffin but categorically is not an AGI, but the faction no longer includes anyone that actually understands that so they treat it like an infalliable deity.

I watched the video before reading your comment so I was already thinking along the lines of, "oh wow sketching with blobs of color, I wonder what the tradeoffs are vs line art".
Now I'm really curious how many different traditions of... for lack of vocabulary, "order of operations" for constructing a piece of art there are.
I would guess a lot but I'm very ignorant in this area.

every developer has a list like this, the only difference is if they write it down and publish it.
nanosleep(2) is incapable of guaranteeing any particular sleep duration. You can wrap it in a little state machine to get closer, but "wake me up at x time" is fundamentally not a thing Linux, mac or windows can deliver.
Due to layers of abstraction in filesystem implementations, there is essentially no way to guarantee a particular chunk of data has been written to disk.
