It boggles my mind how many social protests and actions are organised, advertised, and reported entirely on Meta (esp Insta). Our union (Equity) are wedded to it and it baffles me.

"I'm not transphobic!" claims woman who thinks all the *really* transphobic shit she does isn't transphobic and believes being called any word ending in 'phobic' or 'ist' is the worst crime that can be perpetrated against a human 🙄

Dunno who needs to hear this, but honestly I can't anymore: Harry Potter is complete and utter horseshit. It's derivative, poorly written, predictable, and *almost nothing in it is original*. School 'houses' and 'house points' are just British school stuff. Get the fuck over it you bizarre adult-foetuses and find something else to glom on to. It directly funds the destruction of my rights and existance. Stop consuming it, it 👏 is 👏 fucking 👏 pigswill.

I'm not even remotely sorry.

I recently left my 2nd job at a digital agency (multiple jobs pay the bills) and I need a new role: 20 years in IT, prior roles as a lead developer, skills in .Net/Node/React/NextJS/GraphQL. Anyone out there hiring right now? I need flexibility, so asking ~£40k a year/€45k equiv. 3 days a week (4 at a push), fully remote so I can do acting auditions and gigs when they come in. Anyone interested? DM please.
Boosts REALLY appreciated, we only have so much mortgage runway :(

Yep. The UK and USA have been screwing around in other countries for centuries and laying the foundations of a great many problems.

God I remember when Apple stuff used to be easy to use. Clear design philosophy, minimal interface, minimal noise, signature moment micro-interactions, one clear path to doing The Thing you're trying to do. Now it’s just glass-bubble-hard-to-see rubbish, popups and chatty interfaces. BOOOO.

What is it I’m supposed to leave out for Genghis Khan and his Mongol helpers…? Does he like sherry?

“The first is that it amounts effectively to a requirement to trans people to disclose their trans status by using toilet facilities which do not align with their gender presentation, or to behave untruthfully by not complying. We considered this an assault on trans dignity.”

The cause of most of the UK/USA problems: “I'd rather hurt 9 needy people than help 1 cheat and I'm willing to spend more than helping all 10 to do it”.

2025-11-05 10:00:42 UTC

hm, Mamdani openly campaigns for trans people and expanding our rights… but, he… he won??? That’s not right, is it? I thought pro-trans stuff LOST elections, and only by being transphobic bumweasles could elections be won?
Hmm… almost like that wisdom is completely wrong… 🤔

Powerful people have told Brits that the reason food is expensive, rent too high, jobs too fragile, bills too costly is because of wokez and immigants and transes and, because most people don’t have time to *understand* these issues, let alone talk to people who *live* them, the 360˚ 24/7 wall-of-sound sank in.

2025-10-22 10:05:28 UTC

I keep hearing (eg John Gray – New Statesman) that ’cos liberals ‘went way beyond what “normal” people want’ – instead of meeting them where they were – we got a backlash… and it is *not true*, and they refuse to see it. ~8 years ago, in the UK, most people had no problem with trans people in washrooms & were noncommittal re sports participation. What changed was a blitzkrieg campaign to MAKE those things into battleground issues. It’s not organic.

yeah I call astroturfing on that. Any child not a complete nitwit would realise that we "learn" about British culture every single day. Every aspect of living in this country is marbled with it. The idea that kids at school "only" learn about "other" cultures is an extraordinary claim, and Carl Sagan taught us that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". Not just an entry for the Daily Mail's write-in page.

100%. It's what governments have wanted for a while now, ever since they looked over the Atlantic and saw *how much damn money could be made* on healthcare. They're not going to follow the European model, nor the Japanese model - that's the tell that reveals the lie - they want the US model because it "makes money" (The Line Must Go Up!), makes their donors wealthy and opens up new positions for them when they leave parliament. Who cares if it works?

South America and the Middle East being cases-in-point. But then, they've had no issues with murdering Americans whom they think are "threatening" (Fred Hampton) and experimenting with their own population (Tuskegee) and eugenics ("banned" in 1979 but in practice continuing to now). I think in many ways they just learnt from us and our war crimes as an Empire, and now we just are desperate to follow wherever they go.

we're getting there for sure. What we don't seem to have imo is a pending threat of violent governmental overthrow if one party doesn't win. We also don't have the same scale of voter suppression - "just" those dumbass voter ID laws. AFAIK also no mass infiltration of "true believers" who will dispute, object and make unworkable any voting decisions they don't like. That's not to say we're great, we are SO NOT, but I don't think we're staring down the barrel in the same way (yet).

AND the projected results for this candidate have no daylight between them and the candidate who *checks notes* didn't do any of that. Even the popular vote is nearly 50-50. The guy whose party is openly dismantling your democracy is a hair away from power... AGAIN. Just... how do you survive that? The US has been tap-dancing on the toilet-bowl of fascism and totalitarianism forever... is there any way you won't fall in?

2024-10-23 09:54:33 UTC

USA: you've got a candidate found guilty of rape, threatens his political enemies, fomented a coup-d'éta, demonises minorities, is backed by extreme Christian white nationalists, who invites card-carrying Nazis to dinner, whose party actively suppresses voters and party members are point-blank refusing to accept any result they don't like *and* have infiltrated the election machinery to dispute unfavourable results and nobody can stop them or hold them to account...
