The protein number on your whey tub isn’t a direct measurement of protein.
Labs measure the total nitrogen in the sample and use a standard conversion factor to estimate protein content.
That method has been used for over a century and is still the basis for labeling.
The problem is that the test can’t tell nitrogen from real protein apart from nitrogen in other things.
In 2008, Chinese suppliers added melamine (high in nitrogen) to diluted milk so it would pass protein tests; hundreds of thousands of infants got sick.
In 2014, some U.S. protein powder brands were sued for adding cheap amino acids and creatine that register on the test but aren’t complete protein.
A more accurate method measures the actual amino acids that make up protein, and that’s how the 2014 cases uncovered the shortfall. It costs more and takes longer, so most products still rely on the simpler nitrogen test for the number on the label.
With the current price of whey protein you can be certain it’s not as pure as you think it is.
Scan the ingredients for free-form amino acids.
**Be wary if glycine, taurine, creatine monohydrate, glutamine, arginine**
Prefer products that show a full amino acid profile.
Legitimate whey typically has roughly 10–11% leucine and ~25% total BCAAs of the protein content.
The sum of the amino acids should roughly match the labeled protein grams.
Unusually high glycine/taurine or a shortfall relative to the claim is a red flag.
Stick with established brands that have a track record of transparency and publish lab data.
Extremely low prices relative to protein content and serving size often correlate with corners being cut. 🌻

Losing a family member , divorce and getting fired (moving to a new city) have a similar emotional toll that’s hard to comprehend sometimes.
You’ll adapt at your own pace. 🌻

The movie focuses on survival, trust, friendship, grief, and rebuilding.
It has very little identity politics or activist messaging.
One casting choice creates a slight mismatch with the Mennonite setting, but the film doesn’t frame it as a diversity statement.
Great movie 🍿

Besides absurd diversity for no explainable reason, my biggest gripe with the newest Spider-man is a trend to make them overly sad and depressing.
The latest Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example of that.
Everyone was fighting, they had those mad Frankenstein monsters that made you sad as hell. Young kid’s don’t need exposure to that kind of stuff.
I no longer trust Disney for kids under 12. 🌻

Any of you that have younger kiddos should look out for this type of language on food packaging. 🌻
Eggo calls their fake chocolate, “Chocolatey” Chip waffles.
Then goes on to misdirect you by stating “no artificial colors or flavorings”
Chocolate has a US federal standard so It has to be made with real chocolate and the fat has to be cocoa butter.
Eggo's ingredient list for this waffle has the oil as soybean, palm, palm kernel, canola and/or cottonseed.
Cocoa and chocolate are both in there but they sit below salt in weight.
Look out for these words:
Chocolatey, chocolate flavored, made with chocolate or fudge flavored.

UC Davis tested 54 processed foods claiming to use avocado oil.
48 failed authenticity testing.
-93% of chips
-71% of mayo
-100% of salad dressings
Many contained other oils, including seed oils.
Reading the label isn't enough anymore.
Guess I’ll just make my own mayo from now on. It’s not that hard.
