Listening to the first "Fresh Aire" album by Mannheim Steamroller through my Bose headphones for the first time. My goodness, music was delightfully trippy in 1975. I love it.

Today I also learned that Apple no longer allows the custom format of the date and time in the toolbar, because reasons I guess.
These little things are the things that are pushing me away from MacOS.

Do others still consider uBlock Origin the primary extension for ad wrangling in Firefox (and associated forks) or should I be considering something else?

I believe parts of US 191 used to be US 666 in Arizona, and that's why we still have state routes 266 and 366 hanging off US 191.

Does anyone else think the actress playing Flo from Progressive Insurance probably had no clue she’d be locked into that role for decades?

Schools spend thousands of dollars replacing their master clock systems when all they need is a Raspberry Pi and a relay board to keep the whole thing going

Photographers that use #Linux, tell me about your favorite equivalent to Lightroom and Photoshop and please don’t say GIMP.

It's #Caturday! Truman relaxes as I come to the top of the stairway.

I get that Microsoft needs to push its LLM integrations to feel relevant to the audiences clamoring for more, but my god is all this cruft intrusive on Teams, Outlook, Edge, etc. So many pop up and "helpful hints".
Bring back Clippy!

I noticed the same thing yesterday and like you, I found this very nice. I'm really pleased with the experienced.

Note to folks using US National Parks - bring your own toilet paper. Musk cuts in staffing are making maintenance a little dicey.

I’m not a fan of the new UI. I had to uncheck everything under “Auto-fill” to have some sanity

I always felt like the witches from "Bell, Book, and Candle" were closer to those in "Bewitched". Fun fact about "Bell, Book, and Candle" - the sound effect created for the magic was later used for "Wonder Twins Powers, Activate!" in SuperFriends in the 1970s.

there’s a couple of those on this flight and I figured them into the beard category

Observation as I watch folks board this flight: mustaches are out numbering beards by about a third

Visiting my late in-laws house yesterday and noticed they still had the dryer my husband and I bought them in 1997. The washer had been replaced, but the Hotpoint dryer was still chugging along. I think that's the last model year to expect that sort of longevity from Hotpoint.

I'm thinking society reached peak technology around late 2006. We had smartphones (Blackberries and PDAs) that allowed us to do the basic things. Cameras were decent. We basically had the same operating systems we have now. There isn't really a technological advance, including the iPhone and its copycats, that has truly _enriched_ our lives as much as it has complicated it.
Late 2006. In the world of technology, it probably doesn't get much better than that.

I was just told that artists can’t survive without a Twitter and Facebook account. Let’s prove them wrong. Share a link to your art so folks can give it a boost!
The only way to break the corporate bullshit social media platforms is to make them irrelevant. Let’s do it.
Boost this too if you want.

I Cher your concern, but she did it before it became mainstream, and her use of auto tune should have been relegated to the artistry she displayed in her music. Adopting the technology to fix that which was otherwise mediocre should have been a line that was not crossed.
Cher gets a pass in my book, everyone since Cher does not.

The world went to crap when auto tune became mainstream

I didn't know that was a thing on YouTube either, now I need to see if that happened on my videos. Thanks for the heads up.

it runs deep for me and is what kicked off my interest in technology and ultimately my career. I was mesmerized by the Singer-Friden electronic point of sale system when it appeared in Sears stores in the early 1970s. The buttons lit up like something on Star Trek. It was awesome.

2024-12-20 01:09:27 UTC

As a point of sale equipment geek it’s kind of fun to see the large department stores are using Toshiba POS systems which are basically IBM SurePos 4695 registers, just slightly evolved.
