How wonderful that #PeerTube (an alternative video platform to #YouTube) makes it so easy to add as many subtitle languages as you need!
👉 🌐 Internetiä ei siirretä yhdessä päivässä…
An example of a sector-wide digital commons: the Dutch education and research sector is experimenting with its own PeerTube infrastructure:

If you have 6 minutes to spare over the next few days, you need to watch #JonStewart on #TheDailyShow dissect the current #AI frenzy.
Why is late-night satire examining this reality with far more critical rigor than the very institutions whose job it is to study, regulate, and safeguard the intersection of tech, politics, and society? It is striking to watch those tasked with protecting the public stand at the front of the line, ready to blindly buy whatever tech billionaires put on the shelf..

Europe: “So with these changes, your cloud, AI, IAM and agents are truly sovereign now?”
Big Tech: “Absolutely. Look, it moves, doesn’t it? It’s different now.”
Europe: “Oh yes, I see, indeed.”
Sovereignty washing won’t change US jurisdiction, external control over critical dependencies, proprietary standards, vendor lock-in, kill switches, forced upgrades, or a purely theoretical exit to alternatives Europe never invested in…. no matter what you want to see or believe.

The architecture of the #internet creates risks for #democracy
“During the German federal election in 2025, an algorithmic audit of #X, #TikTok, #Instagram, and #YouTube found that around half of all party-related content that was algorithmically recommended to young users across platforms involved an extreme-right party, doubling its audience share relative to the content’s original upload rate on TikTok. Center-left parties, by contrast, were suppressed.”

Meanwhile, #Albania has entered a 5th day of protests, clashes and resistance against its government over a €1.4 billion luxury-#resort project by #JaredKushner’s investment firm.
His wife, #IvankaTrump, is also closely involved and has publicly presented the development as the culmination of her experience in real estate.
Protesters are furious because the project threatens ecologically sensitive coastline near the protected Vjosa-Narta wetlands and plans for Sazan Island.

With the concept of #OpenHelpHub we can help remove one of the key barriers that currently prevents organisations from choosing autonomous solutions: the fear that support is insufficient.
By joining forces, we can explore how to build excellent support... both technically and organisationally... that can be reused, improved collectively, and built upon by others.
This includes support in multiple languages, at different levels of complexity, media, customisation, terminology, and context.

Does anyone know what the considerations are when a news site, such as NOS, deliberately embeds Twitter/X posts in an article but does not embed Mastodon posts?
Could it be because the CMS does not support it, because it would put too much load on the Mastodon server, because of the size of the community, allowlists or blocklists, CORS issues, or something else?

#ageverification
A new study by Georgia Tech and UC Irvine should make EU policymakers pause…
Researchers found that #Yoti, a major age verification provider used by platforms like Meta, OnlyFans, PlayStation and TikTok, expose users’ personal information to third and fourth parties.
Yet policymakers are rushing into digital age verification as if it is safe by design and belief commercial company claims on privacy by design.

Projects like:
👌 #ForgeFed (https://forgefed.org)
👌 and #OpenCloudMesh (https://nlnet.nl/project/OpenCloudMesh/) show what the internet could be: open and federated, not locked in.
But if public organizations don’t support and invest in this, who will?
A city thrives on connections. But imagine a city owned by 1 company, where residents are customers it would resist building roads to competing cities.
The digital world is no different.
Public institutions must demand, build and use neutral & open infra‼️

"There are no innocent civilians in Jenin, there are no innocent children in Jenin….”
Everyone, without exception, who has ever had thoughts or did dare to express out loud and spoken the words: “it’s a complicated situation” should at least be able to say to themselves: I’m very very very sorry.

“As such, closed-source European solutions only qualify as ‘sovereign’ in a narrow, legal sense, as they may fall under European jurisdiction but do not provide sustained digital sovereignty.”
🥉 Sovereignty for now
🥈 Sovereignty with an exit option
🥇 Maximum sovereignty
👎 US cloud solution in European datacenter with 8 sovereignty stickers on it

A #digitalEmergencyKit…
A pilot-light service…
Or simply offline #knowledge…
Whatever you call it, this is the digital equivalent of a #prepper!Someone who, alongside food, water, and energy, also wants their digital life to keep running. (Think maps, LLMs, wikis, courses, and more.)

In the #Netherlands, we have ministers and opposition parties that claim to be Christian or to stand for the working class, who can tweet in no time when it comes to Islam, fatbike, asylum seekers, and the “right” (whatever that means) of Israël to exists and if you condemn Hamas.
I’m still waiting for the first responses a few hours later about Dutch hooligans on a highway or say… #pogroms involving ethnic cleansing in a dozen villages where we, Dutch, continue to give the occupiers free rein.

"We used to look at countries like France 🇫🇷 with a certain irony, describing them as somewhat chauvinistic because of their strong emphasis on national control in areas such as energy, digital infrastructure, and public sector IT choices. But one could also interpret that not as chauvinism, but as a consistent prioritization of autonomy."
