Hey folks, thanks to a surge in donations we're now close to covering our monthly costs in recurring donations with a nice buffer of one-time donations that will help cover the difference. For the first time in a while I won't have to cover anything out of pocket, and we can postpone any decision on auto-deleting remote content!

Unless someone can find an alternative to either funding at least an extra $50/month, or to reducing our database usage without deleting remote content, I'll have to enable this setting later this week.
As recommended by our hosting company, I'd start at something fairly generous like 730 days and tweak from there to get us back within our current hosting plan (which, as a reminder, already costs more than donations alone can cover).

Hey folks, over the weekend I got an alert: we're now over our storage limit again. We've already got fewer donations coming in each month than the hosting cost, and bumping up our database space will add another $50/month.
I think that at this point our only realistic option is to enable automatic deletion of remote content: https://masto.host/mastodon-content-retention-settings/
Adding this would mean that posts from other servers would be removed from our local storage, even if a user interacted with them.

Hey folks, our we've yet again exhausted our database storage (which is separate from media storage), and is the main driver of our costs. Our costs have already risen above donation levels, but if this continues things may become unsustainable.
You can help by (either or both):
- Donating to help cover our hosting costs at https://ko-fi.com/dicecamp
- Setting auto-deletion for your old posts at https://dice.camp/statuses_cleanup

Hey folks, today I had to up our hosting size to get more db space—we had maxed out the previous plan. This is an additional $50/month in hosting costs.
Long term we may have to talk about some ways to bring down the db growth rate, but at the moment this seems to be pretty typical for a Mastodon instance.
