Well, that's it, the end of an era. Sid (after Sid James), my toy of the last 16 years is finally up for sale. He's had a good scrub this morning and he's about to be listed. The only problem is that I have absolutely no idea what he's worth - there's nothing like him for sale at the moment. Ah well, start high and see where we go.

Is there any chance that call recording could be enabled automatically for all calls? I have a number of customers who are still running very old Android versions on their phones because call recording is pretty much a need-to-have for them and I'd love to get them upgraded.

Continuing the process of migrating the #homeautomation from #nodered to #homeassistant and becoming more and more impressed by the functionality. The one part I was leaving due to its complexity was the hot water and central heating side of things. Worked out how to use 'packages' to keep everything together and got all the logic sorted. It works. I'm amazed!

@nprofile…x33s I agree, but this is a different point. The tax being discussed today is to help replace the revenue lost on petrol/diesel sales as people transition to EVs. Since fossil fuel taxes are effectively pay-per-mile, I don't think it makes sense to implement anything other than a pay-per-mile charge on EVs to make up for the lost income.

Thinking about the suggestion of raising #tax on #EVs. There's certainly justification for pay-per-mile charges, but I can't for the life of me think of a way of charging that is fair and not open to abuse.
You can't ask people to meter their home charging.
You can't trust the odometer reading on the car.
You can't trust EV owners to report mileage truthfully.
You can't trust mileage data supplied by the car itself (even if all cars magically provided it).
Am I missing something?

@nprofile…pqg2 the Victron BMV-700 Battery Monitor is your friend. From what you've said, it's likely ideal. Plus if you want to expand your monitoring, it's got a ve.direct port which will plug into a Cerbo or Raspberry Pi running VenusOS at a later date.

Can anybody recommend a set-top-box I can run a #Jellyfin client on?
Ideally it would start/boot up into a Jellyfin client.
Ideally it would support HDMI-CEC.
Ideally it would have enough grunt to be able to play direct rather than require the server to transcode.
It definitely must not be made by Apple.

Sterling work, but... Good grief. I mean... Good grief.
If I were Alice and my blog was a labour of love, jumping through these ridiculous hoops would fast make the relationship turn sour. I'd cancel my hosting rather than go through all that (even assuming I could come to the same conclusions as you without having to pay £££s for legal advice).
And then there's the risk of fines/imprisonment/whatever.
Utterly utterly ridiculous.

Your assessment makes perfect sense to me and seems to (in my very inexpert eyes) attempt to meet the letter of the law.
But... my discomfort is that I don't think it addresses the spirit of the law (hence my suggesting that I'm not sure there's a difference between a single-user and multi-user instances and that the law can't just be about users) and that Ofcom will argue that federated servers should all be treated as multi-user.

I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable with it. The point of the legislation is (as I understand it) to protect against on-line harms and I'm pretty sure that a single-user instance doesn't do this. I mean, surely it's not all about the user, is it? For example, members of a hypothetical abuse gang may be the users, but the people suffering harm may well not be.

Christmas present help please...
The Boy started getting into Dungeons and Dragons in the last year at sixth form and has found a good group of people at university. I'd like to buy him something D&D related he'd appreciate, but I know nothing about it.
Does anybody have any ideas? Links and recommendations appreciated. Ideally from first hand experience.

I know it's not going to help with humidity, but I have given up with DHT11 and DHT22 modules - they were all over the place. Building them outside the case (and away from the miniscule amount of heat created by the power supply and microcontroller) helped considerably, but where I don't need humidity, switching to DS18B20 was a good move - much more reliable, consistent and accurate.
Where I want temperature *and* humidity, the little Tuya Zigbee sensors are great.

Needed - Wordpress designer/builder for ad-hoc work.

Initially we need a static site replicating in Wordpress so the end user can edit/add to it. Once this is done, we may need additional work tweaking/updating other sites.

Finally admitted to myself that I made a mistake buying my last phone - a Doogee V30T. The battery life is fantastic (4 days), but everything else sucks - camera quality is poor, calls regularly drop at 2m5s duration, screen sensitivity is weird - scrolling jumpy, pinching does weird things, fingerprint reader doesn't work half the time. Had it a year and not sure I can put up with it for much longer. For the first time I'm looking at an iPhone.....

Campervan update:
Next job is to fit these (rear suspension airbags) - in theory a one hour quick install.
Then the ikea kitchen arrives next Thursday but before that I have to cut and fit the shower walls from furniture board. That's the bit I'm putting off - one mis-cut and wave bye-bye to a £200 sheet 😮.
