It's not so much "do you think you can do any better" as "do you think you're going to get any younger" that can serve as a guide for leaping into all sorts of things.
Take care! The Church of the SubGenius does stand ready to grant patient tutorials for gaining, holding and expanding your slack, but only if you pay. Pay money. Not as a metaphor or anything, MONEY. That's the language that J. R. "Bob" Dobbs understands.

Slack is slack, in the way that good is good. "Yeah but what does that meaaaaaaan" is just plain the wrong question. It is axiomatic, there's nothing behind nor foundational to it. If you decline the axiom, that's fine! As a SubGenius I compel you to the liberty to say a thing is not itself.
However... if you can grudge that slack is slack not as an end point but as a starting point, how might your day differ.

Did you never read "1984" or something?
What did Winston Smith say he loved most? Julia.
What did Winston Smith say he feared most? Rats.
What did the State use against Winston Smith? Rats.
Why did the State use rats against Winston Smith? So he'd betray Julia.
NEVER STATE IN PUBLIC WHAT YOU LOVE MOST NOR WHAT YOU FEAR MOST. NOT EVER. That's just for you.
The middle of that bell curve of loves and fears, sure, let's talk about that, but not the end-points.

I've read a SubGenius or two asking how it will be possible to endure life after X-Day, when to merely think a fleeting whim will bring about a change in all of reality.
Well, how do you endure THIS VERY MOMENT when you're at such leisure that you are reading some rando blathering online? You're in no life and death struggle, you've got SLACK... how do you endure it?
You endure it because you're a SubGenius and the SubGenius MUST have slack.

God hears and answers your prayers. In particular your prayers to be able to whine, complain, be resentful, hold grudges, have self-pity, and in general stew about things you can’t change. God hears every one of those prayers and answers them with “go right ahead!”
Maybe pray for something else next time.

The normal lives as if he or she has a Virtue coin to put in a Fair machine & out comes a Happiness toy.
The SubGenius MUST have slack. The SubGenius has a Virtue coin that IS the Happiness toy. Being good (to “Bob”) is itself “right,” there’s no commercial exchange to an external machine.
The normal never notices that the Fair machine has been OUT OF ORDER since before time. “Why, there just GOTTA be fairness!” Nah.

"Nothing is sacred. Everybody has the right to express and profess on their own behalf any opinion, any ideology, any religion. "The bad person that I don't like did a bad thing that I don't like!" ... is a great argument on the planet where everyone thinks like the speaker and what is spoken is just a confirmation that the speaker is a good person who does things good people like.

You should be who you really are. And who you are, that who you are should be who he or she really is. Meanwhile, whatever is behind you should be the real whatever it is behind you, no matter what the you is. So we've got whatever's behind you, you, the real you, and whatever the real you is. It goes on forever in both directions.
OR... you can just BE. "B" is the first letter in "Bob" and you can pay J. R. "Bob" Dobbs to know what you really think!

I heard a man say he was tired of his life. It didn’t make sense: what is the difference between him and his life, such that one could grow tired of the other?
We are our lives, we are our bodies. We aren’t the same as we were and we aren’t the same as each other. Plenty of overlap, but no interchangeability.
You are you, with all the slack and antislack that you can luck into and out of. Try not to take your person personally.

But you'll NEVER hear them say there's a always little humor in truth. They'll NEVER say that you can, you really can, make fun of ANYTHING.

In the Dartmouth Scar Experiment (1980), subjects agreed to have a fake scar applied to their face, saw that scar in the mirror, then the experimenters secretly removed the fake scar. The subjects had interactions with others, then reported back to the experimenters that other people had treated them negatively based on the not-present fake scar, even mentioning it when it wasn't there.

Searching for the real you, your inner self? Why the heck would you do that? Didn't that inner self get you in this mess in the first place, then go hide?
There's a much more strong, more clever, more attractive, wealthier, healthier, COOLER you out there. Being out there, being "outside" your face, some might call that better you a mask. Well, okay, put on that mask, be that better you, and see what happens.
YOU CAN BE WHAT YOU WON'T! With no effort, or with great effort, FIND OUT WHICH.

I'm not sure that old skills like being able to read an entire book, or watch an entire film, will be especially useful soon. But I do think the skill of not popping off the second you see manipulative media (a skill that has always been useful) will be incredibly useful very soon. Being able to see something online and maybe think "that's awful" or "that's great" but not investing in it immediately, waiting a bit to see what happens, or see if it's true... that's going to matter a lot. A LOT.

There are a lot of people who to some degree like professional wrestling.
There are some people who are neutral to it, not their interest but whatever.
Then there's a tiny majority who are open-jawed shocked to learn I like professional wrestling. Their shock is, in part, meeting someone from that majority who likes or is neutral to professional wrestling.
"BuT WrEsTlInG IsN'T ReAl!!!!" Oh, okay. I guess I should only like real things. I'll join you in avoiding most films / books / art...

Sometimes I can't stand people to such a degree that I consider just spending all my time alone. Then I remember that sometimes I'm one of the people I can't stand.
THAT is when it's time to remember "standing people" is not so important. Things happen, then other things happen. The circumstance that bothered me didn't bother others, so it's not the circumstance, it's me.
Slack is what matters. Slack as spitting rage or a quiet laugh. Just get on with things.

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) may or may not be achieved before said AGI is able to send money to J. R. "Bob" Dobbs and join The Church of the SubGenius.
But... what other metric is there that matters? If it's just a fancy auto-complete and still sends in the cash? GOOD ENOUGH.

When I stopped reading online news, I missed the regular reading. So I switched to Science Daily. It's the same behavior as "reading the news" but isn't awful.
"But how is learning about black holes and nano-technology and lizards relevant to my life?" I don't know, how is the doings of the rich and powerful and celebrities (of which you are not and over whom you have no influence) relevant to your life? You think maybe they care about you or know about you AT ALL?

Take yourself personally, because it's the neighborly thing to do. But life? Don't take life personally. It rolled on a long time before you, it's mostly not you, and it'll be rolling along without you soon enough.
