@nprofile…w8s4 Therefore we need to get more Democrats to be more selective in who they vote for and to drop "vote Blue no matter who" and to protest when Democratic leaders do bad things.
The courts remain a useful tool to block Trump. They are more conservative than would be preferred but there are still more progressive judges. Plus some conservatives do have a sense of preserving Constitutional liberties (sometimes even more than Democrats).

@nprofile…w8s4 This was successful in throwing out virtually all of the far right wingers in the next election, limiting their damage.
Right now Democratic primaries need to be a major area of concentration to try to get less conservative Democrats in power. Beyond that need to educate Democratic voters as to how terrible Democrats like Biden have been. Most of the bad things being done by Trump started under Biden or earlier but most Democrats ignored the terrible things Biden was doing...

@nprofile…w8s4 Actually it can go beyond Democrats. I live in a county which is totally dominated by Republicans--but on a local level they are primarily concerned with keeping local and county services running as opposed to ideology. The Republican primaries are essentially the general elections. A few years ago ideological far right Republicans swept the primaries, mainly because turnout is generally very low. People responded with a coalition of Democrats, Republicans & independents...

@nprofile…w8s4 Sorry it took me a couple of days to respond--this is not an easy question to quickly jot out a response to on a phone. Before totally rejecting working without Democrats, not that I'm largely referring to the national party. Democrats do differ when getting more local. In some states like New York and California, total Democratic control has its own problems, but often Democrats can be part of the battle on a local level...

Trump cannot cancel the midterms and his talk about this is a distraction. Here's what he is actually doing to try to influence the results.

@nprofile…w8s4 In other words, voting for Democrats will not get us our of this mess unless we first replace the current party leaders and many of the members of Congress.

Of course a Democratic think tank is going to argue against abolishing ICE. Just like how Biden increased spending on ICE over the objection of human rights groups and Harris campaigned saying she would further increase ICE.

@nprofile…w8s4 You are missing the point of what I am saying. It is not that democracy is not worth fighting for. The problem is that attacks on democracy started well before Trump and both parties are involved. The United States has been an oligarchy for a while, with the same donors controlling both parties. Democrats as well as Republicans have been eroding civil liberties.

It is hard to believe after all we have seen the last five years that there are people who still think that the Democrats are anything more than controlled opposition, or that things would be significantly different if Harris won the election--beyond her doing the same in a more joyful manner.

@nprofile…utam I wouldn't necessarily use social media as an indicator of general beliefs. Threads was largely formed by establishment Democrats who left Twitter due to Musk making it heavily BlueMAGA. I did find a number of people who oppose both duopoly parties. I began aggressively blocking BlueMAGA who commented rudely on my posts and then went on to block those making posts along the lines of blaming those who did not vote for Harris for Trump. This made my timeline far more anti duopoly.
